Injury Update: Bryce Hall and Josh Hayes both OUT with injuries

Bucs cornerbacks Bryce Hall and Josh Hayes both exit Week 1 with injuries.

The Buccaneers cornerback group has been decimated by injuries in their Week 1 matchup with the Washington Commanders.

After Zyon McCollum went out with a concussion, his replacement, Bryce Hall, was just carted off with an apparent knee injury. Additionally, backup CB Josh Hayes has been ruled out with an ankle injury:

The Bucs’ only remaining healthy cornerbacks are Jamel Dean, Tykee Smith, and Tavierre Thomas. Rookie Tyrek Funderburk was not activated for this game. Tampa Bay may have to call on Christian Izien, who was their starting nickel corner last year but is listed as a safety this season.

The Bucs defense has played well today against rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and the Commanders offense. They have been held to just seven points through almost three quarters while the Bucs offense has looked better than ever under new coordinator Liam Coen.

Former Jets DBs Bryce Hall, Jordan Whitehead reunite with Bucs

After lining up in the same secondary in New York, Bryce Hall and Jordan Whitehead are teammates once again in Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought back a familiar face in free agency this offseason, signing veteran safety Jordan Whitehead to a two-year deal.

Whitehead spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Bucs, then played for the New York Jets for the past two seasons.

He won’t be the only member of last year’s Jets defensive backfield coming to Tampa Bay this year, though, as cornerback Bryce Hall also signed with the Bucs this offseason on a one-year deal.

Hall recently spoke with the media during offseason workouts about his bond with Whitehead that developed in New York:

Bucs assistant coach Kevin Ross breaks down CB competition

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerbacks coach Kevin Ross breaks down what should be a fierce position battle this season

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded away one of their starting cornerbacks this offseason, sending Carlton Davis III to the Detroit Lions in a deal that netted the Bucs a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

That move leaves an opening in the starting lineup opposite Jamel Dean heading into the 2024 season, and there are multiple candidates up for the job.

Zyon McCollum showed marked improvement in his second season last year, and might be the current favorite, but the Bucs also made an underrated addition in free agency by signing Bryce Hall.

Bucs cornerbacks coach Kevin Ross recently spoke with the media about the fierce competition he’s expecting at the position this year, and much more:

What are the Bucs getting in new CB Bryce Hall?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers landed some underrated corner depth by signing Bryce Hall in free agency

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added some much-needed depth at cornerback in free agency this week, signing former New York Jets corner Bryce Hall to a one-year contract.

Hall hasn’t had much of a chance to shine in New York, but when he did, he broke up 16 passes in 2021 while starting all 17 games for the Jets.

He now joins a Tampa Bay secondary that just traded away one of its starters in Carlton Davis III, and needs competition for third-year man Zyon McCollum for the starting spot on the outside opposite Jamel Dean.

So, what are the Bucs getting in Hall?

Here’s a fantastic breakdown from NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger from that 2021 season:

Sean Strickland vs. Bryce Hall? Ex-UFC champ turns attention toward another influencer

After TikTok star Bryce Hall challenged him to a sparring match, Sean Strickland began looking up states with “stand your ground” laws.

What do Jake Paul, Sneako, and [autotag]Bryce Hall[/autotag] have in common besides being influencers?

Well, they’ve all become recent targets of former UFC middleweight champion [autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag].

Friday, Strickland did hold back against Sneako in a sparring session that resembled more of an unofficial fight. Hours later, Strickland engaged in a war of words with Paul, complete with quasi-death threats.

Now, Hall is in the line of fire of Strickland’s violent fantasies after a sparring challenge was issued by the YouTube and TikTok star.

“It’s kind of f*cked up,” Hall recently told Inside Fighting when asked about Strickland’s beatdown of Sneako. “I would love to spar with Sean Strickland. … I think he is kind of degrading influencers who are trying to get into the fighting space.

“When you’re an experienced fighter, a former champion at that, you should never go into a spar with somebody that has little-to-no boxing experience and try to knock him out. Dana, set me up with Sean Strickland. I want to do a spar. I guarantee I would crack Sean Strickland. … He’d crack me, but I can crack.”

6 takeaways from Jets’ impressive 20-14 win over Eagles

Here are our six immediate takeaways from the Jets’ impressive 20-14 win over the Eagles in Week 6.

The New York Jets improbably handed the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season on Sunday, winning the game 20-14. While the Eagles went to 5-1 on the season, the Jets improved to 3-3 to avoid falling too far behind the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East race.

After going down 7-0 to begin the game, the defense stifled Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ offense, outscoring them 20-7 following the first drive of the contest. Even though the offense made plays when they needed to, Sunday’s victory was all about the stellar performance by the defense.

With the Jets upsetting the Eagles at home in Week 6, here are our six immediate takeaways from the contest.

Quincy Williams, Bryce Hall combine to seal victory for Jets

Quincy Williams, Bryce Hall combine to seal victory for Jets

The Broncos thought they were building momentum. They gained 20 yards on a 3rd and 15 and were on their way to at least tying the game and sending them and the Jets to overtime.

Quincy Williams and Bryce Hall had other ideas.

With about 40 seconds left, Williams got around the edge and sacked Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, causing a fumble that almost went out of bounds. But before it did, Hall scooped up the football and ran 39 yards for a touchdown that sealed the deal for the Jets.

New York ends their three-game losing streak and moves to 2-3 heading into a week 6 matchup with the defending NFC champion and 5-0 Philadelphia Eagles.
