Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne took to Twitter on Monday morning to show off more of the fantastic progress at Bryant-Denny Stadium!

He shared how he loves taking an early morning walk to the stadium to see the progress, and if we’re being completely honest, it’s looking incredible.

The Crimson Standard, is a 10-year, $600 million fundraising initiative to enhance athletics facilities on the UA campus, including Bryant-Denny Stadium, Rhoads Stadium and Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility.

Bryant-Denny Stadium’s renovation will cost around $106 million dollars and is scheduled to be completed by Alabama’s first home game of the 2020 season.

Byrne started the tour by taking pictures of the new elevators, as well as the new student plaza, restrooms and concessions.

Next, Byrne showed off the new press box! It’s amazing!

Speaking of amazing, look at these pictures!

And lastly, look at the new video board as well as how seating will work this season in Tuscaloosa.

All in all, the stadium updates are coming along nicely, and it looks amazing!

Some of the main goals of Bryant Denny’s stadium renovation is to have more luxury seating for fans, larger scoreboards, new entrances, and an all around better fan experience.

There’s no doubt that when all of the construction is all said and done, Alabama will have one of, if not the nicest, stadiums and training facilities in the country.

Oh, and Byrne also hinted that he will soon be unveiling pictures of the new home locker room and recruiting area…. OH SNAP!

Gators News: August 19, 2020

Things are hopping here at Gators Wire as we continue to move straight ahead towards a fall 2020 Southeastern Conference football season.

It is humpday and things are hopping here at Gators Wire as we continue to move straight ahead towards a fall 2020 Southeastern Conference football season.

At the top of the news, USA TODAY Sports’ Dan Wolken thinks that shaming students won’t make college football any more possible this fall. You know, people who, for better or worse, cannot be shamed into anything.

Over in Alabama, the Crimson Tide plans to allow limited fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium – which holds more than 100,000 fans – to 20% capacity, which includes a facemask requirement and a moratorium on tailgating activities on campus.

Josh Peter, also at USA TODAY Sports, wonders why experts disagree on the safety of college football amid COVID-19: it’s the same data, same research, but different conclusions on the safety of playing the sport this fall.

In college basketball news, the NCAA aims for mid-September a decision on the start of the college basketball season. Dan Gavitt, the NCAA’s senior vice-president of basketball, released a statement Monday saying the Division I Men’s and Women’s Oversight Committees will take the lead in finalizing any recommendations for consideration by the Division I Council.

Alabama games limited to 20% capacity, tailgating banned

There may be games in Bryant-Denny, but fan capacity will be limited to 20% and all tailgating is cancelled.

[jwplayer LbwYdacl]

The good news is that there will be football games being played in Bryant- Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, but the bad news is that fan capacity will be limited to 20% and all tailgating is cancelled.

If you do the math, that means around 20,000 fans will be allowed to attend home games.

On Tuesday, the University of Alabama announced the decision on RollTide.com.

Tailgating will also not be permitted on the Alabama campus for the 2020 football season.

Here are several (but not all) safety measures that the University of Alabama will be taking:

  • All spectators and working staff will be required to present a CLEARED GuideSafe™ Event Passport before entering the stadium (Fans will be directed to a single Health check game day web link for their game day passport)
  • All working staff will be required to wear a face covering and/or a face shield
  • the Alabama Athletics TIDE PRIDE/Ticket Office announced mobile-only ticketing and parking, enabling contactless entry into all venues beginning with the 2020 football season.
  • All spectators are required to wear a face covering upon entering the stadium; if they do not have a face covering, they will be provided with a disposable mask.
  •  Hand sanitizing stations will be available at each entry gate and throughout the stadium
  • All concession stands will be open, with every other register operational and fitted with a Plexiglass screen
  • Social distancing will be maintained throughout the facility to the fullest extent possible, including limiting field access in accordance with SEC and NCAA recommendation

This may not seem like a fun experience, but at least there’s football. That’s a plus.

And at this point, I think we’d all choose to watch it on TV rather than not watching at all.

Alabama to refund all student tickets, new plan to be announced

The University of Alabama informed students their ticket plans will be refunded as the new schedule will soon become available.

The University of Alabama emailed the student body today to inform them that the student ticket plans that were purchased in April for the 2020 season will be refunded.

This news comes along with the SEC announcing their change to a conference-only schedule amid the Coronavirus pandemic. The email references the change and lack of a set schedule and opponents.

Another pressing issue, in regard to ticket sales, is the amount of fans that will be allowed into the stadium. It has become abundantly clear that a limited number of people, if any, will be in attendance.

When the official schedule is released with dates and opponents, and they know how many people will be let into the stadium, the ticketing office plans on announcing a revised system.

Here is the email the students received:

The contractors immediately adapted operations and processes, engaged in heightened cleaning, and took other protective measures for the health and safety of their employees. The University directly provided sanitation supplies, thermometers, and signage at all construction sites, and made personal protective equipment available to all contractors. Those processes, which have been in place since early March, are continuously refined based on the latest guidance from state, federal and industry leaders in order to protect the health and safety of the campus community.”
