‘TUF 30’ winner Juliana Miller explains inspiration for crotch-chopping opponent Brogan Walker

Things got a little nasty between Juliana Miller and Brogan Walker, so a Degeneration X impersonation broke out.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Juliana Miller[/autotag]’s first move as a Season 30 “Ultimate Fighter” winner was to crotch-chop her opponent, [autotag]Brogan Walker[/autotag], before referee Keith Peterson shoved her away.

The move came after a third-round submission and was the result of a culmination of factors, Miller (3-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) said at a news conference Saturday after UFC on ESPN 40. Sure, she felt disrespected by Walker (7-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) mean-mugging and trash-talking. But more than that, a love for pro wrestling was the catalyst for Miller’s MMA career – and even runs in her bloodline.

“So the thing is, my grandma, when she moved here from Brazil, she didn’t speak any English,” Miller told MMA Junkie and other reporters. “She was learning English from TV shows. … Pretty much, I was raised by her from 6 months to 5 years old. As she was starting to learn English, she said she loved wrestling because she didn’t need to understand the words to see what was happening. It was all through the action. Honestly, when I came to my team, I was like, ‘I want to be a pro wrestler one day.’ My coaches were like, ‘Let’s give you a shot in the cage and see how you do.’

“I ended up loving it, but that pro wrestling spirit kind of lives within me forever. I just think it’s exciting to put on a show. More than anything, the ‘suck it’ just came from the fact she sat up here on the same table and decided to say that she was going to highlight-reel knock me out cold. It felt good to stand over her and say, ‘Look at you now.'”

With the “TUF 30” tournament victory, Miller earned a multifight UFC deal. Training in the San Diego area, Miller considered asking for a fight at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 41. She decided against it, but will stay ready to make a quick turnaround at a later date.

“Depending on what’s available. I was worried I’d walk out of here damaged, but I’m doing just fine,” Miller said. “I was going to say San Diego, but my coaches will be cornering my teammate Ilima-Lei Macfarlane in her Bellator (284) fight. Really, it just depends on what’s possible. I think for now I want to go eat some cookies, enjoy myself, and hopefully have a few options getting back in the cage. I am uninjured, so really as long as I have a little time to prepare with my incredible team and coaches, I’m hyped and ready to be back at it.”

UFC on ESPN 40 post-event facts: Sam Alvey’s winless skid sets all-time record

UFC on ESPN 40 was a historic card with all finishes, but Sam Alvey left with a dubious record attached to his name.

UFC opened its August schedule in historic fashion on Saturday. UFC on ESPN 40 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas featured a finish in all 10 fights.

The main event needed the additional rounds, however, because [autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag] (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) battled with [autotag]Thiago Santos[/autotag] (22-11 MMA, 14-10 UFC) in the fourth frame before securing a TKO stoppage that continued to his rise in the light heavyweight division.

UFC on ESPN 40 results: Juliana Miller TKOs, taunts Brogan Walker to win ‘TUF 30’ crown

Juliana Miller is the “The Ultimate Fighter 30” women’s flyweight champion after a dominant win over Brogan Walker.

[autotag]Juliana Miller[/autotag] is the “The Ultimate Fighter 30” women’s flyweight champion.

After going through the house and winning multiple fights during the latest season of the long-running reality series, Miller (3-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) had her crowning moment on Saturday with a third-round TKO over [autotag]Brogan Walker[/autotag] (7-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC on ESPN 40.

Miller used her superior grappling arsenal to beat Walker and get the tournament crown in their main card fight at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The fight started with a brief striking exchange, but then the action quickly spilled to the mat with Miller on top. Walker held on and tried to avoid making any major mistakes, while Miller chipped away with short punches and elbow. She dominated from top for the majority of the round, and aside from a late armbar attempt from bottom, Walker didn’t have much to offer.

Walker came out in the second round with a clear idea of what she needed to do. She got the fight to the ground less than 90 seconds in, and before long found her way to the back and locked in a rear-naked choke. Walker somehow escaped and scrambled free, and she managed to press Miller against the cage. Miller turned her around and took the momentum back down the stretch, though, and secured a late takedown.

It was desperate times for Walker going into the final round, and she landed some good punches and got off to a solid start. Miller just waited for her opportunity to take the fight to the ground, though, and when she did it was one-sided. She quickly advanced to mount and smashed Walker with hard punches and elbows until referee Keith Peterson stepped in.

After the stoppable, Miller stood over Walker and gave a crotch chop signal, and pushed her opponent.

UFC on ESPN 40’s Brogan Walker using Amanda Nunes’ performance vs. Julianna Peña as inspiration

Brogan Walker is looking to make Juliana Miller’s pressure work against her.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Brogan Walker[/autotag] is looking to make [autotag]Juliana Miller[/autotag]’s pressure work against her.

Walker (7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) meets Miller (2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) on Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 40 main card at the UFC Apex, where the Season 30 “Ultimate Fighter” women’s flyweight winner will be crowned.

After watching her coach on the show, [autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag], use her precision to make Julianna Peña pay with every entry in their bantamweight title fight at UFC 277, Walker plans on implementing a similar game plan.

“There’s a storm coming for sure,” Walker told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 40 media day. “I’m prepared for that. But going back to the styles, with the styles that we have here in this matchup with Juliana and I, I see it as just one of those highlight-reel finishes – that pressure coming in, me timing it. You guys watched the Amanda and Julianna (Peña) fight. My coach fought a lot like me in that fight.

“She fought southpaw, she took her time, she adjusted with the pressure and she just remained patient and got that good timing, good connections on everything and real responsive. I either see it going just like that, except more blood, or I see one of those highlight-reel knockouts coming in against that pressure.”
