The Alabama Crimson Tide destroyed Ole Miss Rebels, led by a big day from Brian Robinson Jr. and a dominant defensive performance
Hopefully, Ole Miss fans enjoyed their popcorn, because Saturday afternoon’s matchup against Alabama left them with little else to get excited about.
The 42-21 final score doesn’t do this one justice, as the Crimson Tide built a 35-0 lead into the third quarter, allowing the Rebels to post a couple of garbage-time touchdowns to make things respectable on the scoreboard.
Brian Robinson Jr. carried the day for Alabama, racking up 171 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries. Matt Corral and the Ole Miss offense was held to just 291 total yards, and Bama’s dominant defense refused to give up any points until the game was well out of hand.
Robinson showed off an impressive combination of power, explosiveness, patience and vision, which should have NFL scouts moving him up the draft board.

Nick Saban provides the latest on the injury front!
Tuscaloosa is the sight of another top 15 SEC matchup on Saturday afternoon as No. 1 Alabama and No. 12 Ole Miss face off.
Lane Kiffin will be making his return to Bryant Denny Stadium for the first time since being named the Rebels’ head coach. His team is coming off a bye week, having the opportunity to get healthy.
Alabama did not have the same advantage. Even if Southern Miss was not the best opponent, there were still 60 minutes of football to be played.
Nick Saban was able to provide injury updates on three players Wednesday morning. One of the more surprising ones was Henry To’oTo’o coming out of the Florida game.
“He was a little sick when we played down at Florida,” Saban said about the linebacker. “He played anyway. But he has played extremely well for us.”
To’oTo’o finished with nine tackles against the Gators and three last week against Southern Miss. He and Christian Harris have been an intricate part of the defense thus far.
Alabama’s pass rush could finally be back at full strength as well, with LaBryan Ray returning to near 100%.
“He’s played in the last two games and played more in each one of those games,” Saban said. “We’re very pleased with the progress that he’s making and the way that he’s playing, and I think the more he plays, the more productive that he’ll be and I think the more confident that he’ll get that he’s physically healthy as well as making strides to getting back to be the kind of player that he’s always been for us.”
The defensive lineman suffered a groin injury just before the summer ended and missed the first two games of the season.
On the offensive side of the ball, it sounds like Brian Robinson Jr. is ready to be the feature back of the offense again. After missing the Southern Miss game, Saban said Robinson Jr. would practice this week and be listed as day-to-day.
On Wednesday he confirmed the running back will be good to go for Ole Miss.
“He [Robinson Jr.] looks good and he’s practiced well, so we’re encouraged that he’ll be able to play in the game on Saturday.”

Nick Saban is “hopeful” Brian Robinson Jr. will be 100% by the 2:30 kickoff on Saturday.
Alabama went into Southern Miss without Brian Robinson Jr. The starting running back is dealing with a rib injury and left the carries for Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams.
Nick Saban provided an injury on the running back during his press conference on Monday. The head coach said Robinson Jr. practiced and is going to be day-to-day moving forward.
As for his status against Ole Miss, Saban is “hopeful” Robinson Jr. will be 100% by the 2:30 kickoff on Saturday.
Despite missing a game, Robinson Jr. is still the Crimson Tide’s leading rusher. Getting him back in time for Ole Miss will be huge for Bryce Young and the offense, making sure there are plenty of options in the run game.
Saban on Brian Robinson (ribs): "B-Rob's gonna practice today, and we'll go day-to-day with him and see how he develops. But we're hopeful that he'll be 100 percent by game time."
Even with Robinson Jr. out last week, Saban wanted to get back to running the ball after a poor performance against Florida. Alabama rushed for 211 yards and a touchdown.
Ole Miss’ defense is giving up 136 rushing yards a game and just 3.5 yards per carry. Opponents of Louisville, Austin Peay, and Tulane are a lot different than going up against Alabama. Having Robinson Jr. back will help attack the Rebels.

Nick Saban gave an update today on Brian Robinson jr.’s injury today. Check out what he said!
Alabama football’s starting running back Brian Robinson’s status was classified as day-to-day by Nick Saban today, in a press conference ahead of the showdown against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
Robinson suffered a rib injury late in the game against Florida on Saturday.
Before the injury, Robinson picked up 75 yards on 14 attempts, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. He added a touchdown run to bring his season tally to two.
“Got banged up a little bit in the end,” Saban said, “Bruised his ribs or something. I think he will be OK.”
In the game against Florida, Robinson and Jase McClellan were the only two backs receiving carries. This could mean we see more of Trey Sanders against Southern Miss this Saturday if Robinson can’t go.
Robinson has been the premiere back this season in what is essentially a running back-by-committee up to this point this year. He’s gained 208 yards on 37 carries to go along with the aforementioned two TDs on the year.

According to Alabama senior running back Brian Robinson Jr. “Bama is back.”
June 8th was a day that NCAA athletes all over the country had circled on their calendars, especially football players. After the NCAA cancelled all winter sports’ championships as well as spring seasons due to the coronavirus, hope remained for a fall football season. So when the NCAA voted to allow voluntary workouts to resume on June 8th, it was game on.
Although there are reports that 5 Alabama football players tested positive for the coronavirus, the Alabama Crimson Tide still held the first “voluntary” practice on Monday. And according to Alabama senior running back Brian Robinson Jr. “Bama is back.”
Can’t lie, today’s workout made me realize why I came to bama in the first place, Bama is Back!!!#RollTide
Robinson, who is a senior from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, has continued to become a bigger part of Alabama’s offense each season. In 2017, he had 24 carries for 165 yards and 2 TD. In 2018, he recorded 63 carries for 272 yards and 2 TDs. And in 2019, Robinson made a much bigger impact offensively for the Tide as he had 96 carries for 441 yards and 5 TDs.
With both Robinson and Harris returning as running backs for Alabama, there’s no doubt that this could be a comeback season for the Tide.
I don’t know about you, but hearing Robinson say “Bama is back” has me so excited (and hopeful) for this season!
Senior running back Brian Robinson Jr. is the next man up on Alabama football’s player snapshot, which highlights each scholarship player.
As we continue through the offseason, Roll Tide Wire has decided to bring fans a quick snapshot of each scholarship player listed on Alabama’s 2020 football roster.
Each day, we’ll release anywhere from 2-4 player profiles giving fans a glimpse into the players who will be available this upcoming season. Whether that’s size, classification, hometowns or recruiting rankings coming out of high school, we’ve got you covered.
Also included in each article is a quick recap letting you know what to expect from that player for the upcoming 2020 season and beyond.
Next up on the list is local running back Brian Robinson Jr. out of Tuscaloosa.
Analysis: It’s tough to project where Brian Robinson Jr. is going to be on Alabama’s depth chart in 2020. On one hand, he’s a valued, experienced runner who has been an effective option at times.
On the other hand, the power back from Tuscaloosa struggled with vision and consistency at various points throughout this past season. He only averaged 4.59 yards, which is significantly lower than the 5.86 yards that Najee Harris averaged and the 6.51 yards we saw from Keilan Robinson.
There’s also the question as to where redshirt freshman phenom Trey Sanders ends up on the depth, as the only thing that seemed to be able to slow down the former five-star heading into his freshman season was a foot injury.
Still, Robinson has the ability to be an above-average SEC running back, and that experience (194 total touches for 1,002 yards in three seasons) could prove to be useful despite a loaded backfield with Harris, Sanders, the younger Robinson and three talented freshmen coming in.
