Giants injury report: Tyrone Tracy Jr. in concussion protocol

New York Giants rookie RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. is in the “early stages” of concussion protocol and may not be available in Week 9 vs. Washington.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for a Week 9 game against the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

On short rest, the Giants had a lengthy injury report with several veterans and stars sitting out, including nose tackle Dexter Lawrence and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.

Head coach Brian Daboll revealed that Tracy, who left Monday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, was in the “early stages” of concussion protocol. He is 50-50 to play against the Commanders.

Lawrence, who has been battling a hip injury for most of the season, was given a veteran rest day.

Meanwhile, offensive tackle Joshua Ezeudu had his knee drained and missed practice, paving the way for veteran Chris Hubbard to start at left tackle for the second consecutive week.

Giants’ Brian Burns: This team needs to ‘grow up’

Some New York Giants veterans are frustrated with the team’s sloppy play and losing ways and are speaking out.

The New York Giants fell to 2-6 on the season after a 26-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. It was another winnable game that got away from them.

Veterans such as Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Greg Van Roten pushed the younger players during and after the game to step up their efforts. Either their words fell on deaf ears or this team simply isn’t ready to win in its current form.

The latter is likely the answer. The Giants made the same mistakes they’ve been making for years, playing just well enough to fall short.

“The team needs to grow up,” said Burns, a former Pro Bowl edge rusher who the Giants traded for this past offseason, via NJ Advance Media.

Burns chalked up the situation to “frustration.”

“To me, it doesn’t come down to effort,” Burns said of what he felt the team needs. “I feel like guys play hard. I think it just comes down to details and being super detailed in your job… Things not going your way and momentum switches can cause people to lack on their details.”

Lawrence also showed his frustration after the game.

The game was tied at halftime at 9-9 and was within reach had the Giants had their business better buttoned up.

“I’m a passionate dude, and I put a lot into this game,” Lawrence said. “I expect a lot to come back — and for my teammates also to give a lot to the game. I think I’m a little frustrated because we’re a good team and we keep beating ourselves every week.

“We can’t have that — and I addressed it. We’ve just got to be mentally locked in on every play — not just plays here and there. That’s where my frustration comes. On game days, we’ve got to show up.”

The time to show up may have come and gone for the Giants this season. There are nine games remaining and they may need to win all of them to even think about qualifying for the postseason.

But the postseason may have never been a reasonable expectation for this team from the start. They don’t do many things well and anything that has gone well hasn’t lasted very long.

Steelers vs Giants injury updates: New York gets top edge rusher back

The Steelers need to make sure they have a plan for Brian Burns on Monday night.

The New York Giants are coming to Acrisure Stadium on Monday night to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Steelers offensive line had better be ready. According to NFL Network report Mike Garafolo, the Giants did not give an injury designation to defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence or edge rusher Brian Burns.

This means New York’s top two defensive players are good to go against the Steelers. This puts a ton of pressure on a Steelers offensive line that has had its share of ups and downs. Injuries have forced lots of changes to the interior offensive line where Lawrence does his damage.

Burns will test starting left tackle Dan Moore Jr. on every rep. Moore has been steady but not spectacular this season.

Injury updates: Giants could be without top defender vs Steelers

The Giants could be without edge rusher Brian Burns against the Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to take on the New York Giants on Monday night. For the Steelers, top priority for the offensive line is to do their best to minimize the damage done by defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

This problem is only made more difficult by the presence of edge defender Brian Burns. But when the Giants’ Friday injury report came out, Burns went from being a limited participant on Thursday to DNP a day later. Burns is currently dealing with groin and Achilles injuries.

With Burns out of the lineup, the job of starting left tackle Dan Moore Jr. gets much easier, Moore, along with starting right tackle Broderick Jones have had their ups and downs this season. But this week, all eyes will be on center Ryan McCollum and rookie guard Mason McCormick as they try to contend with Lawrence in the middle.

Giants injury report: Jermaine Eluemunor misses practice

The New York Giants have added right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (groin) to the injury report after not practicing on Friday.

The New York Giants took the field on Friday for their second of three practices ahead of a Week 8 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.

Beforehand, head coach Brian Daboll delivered some unfortunate injury news and revealed that right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor would not participate as the result of a groin injury.

Although Daboll wouldn’t rule Eluemunor out for Monday night, embattled offensive tackle Evan Neal stepped in and assumed first-team reps on the right side.

Joshua Ezeudu continues taking first-team reps at left tackle.

“Hopeful,” Daboll said when asked if Eluemunor would play against the Steelers.

The Giants’ full Friday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: LB Brian Burns (groin/Achilles), CB Adoree’ Jackson (neck), LB Ty Summers (hamstring/ankle), P Jamie Gillan (hamstring), OL Jermaine Eluemunor (hip)

Limited participant: NT Dexter Lawrence (hip), CB Cor’Dale Flott (groin), CB Tre Hawkins (ankle)

Giants injury report: Dexter Lawrence, Adoree’ Jackson not practicing

New York Giants nose tackle Dexter Lawrence (hip) was among four players who missed practice on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Thursday afternoon in preparation for a Week 8 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Despite the extra day off, head coach Brian Daboll delivered some unfortunate injury news before players took the field. Of note, nose tackle Dexter Lawrence and cornerback Cor’Dale Flott were sidelined.

Although Lawrence was getting more of a rest day, Daboll said Flott would not practice until at least Friday but more than likely, will sit out on Monday Night Football.

“I wouldn’t be able to say week to week. We’ll see where he is tomorrow,” he said. “Probably, I don’t know if he’d be able to make it this week, but I’m not going to rule him out because he hasn’t been ruled out to me.”

With Adoree’ Jackson still sidelined, that created an uphill climb for the Giants.

Meanwhile, punter Jamie Gillan, who has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury, took a step forward in his recovery and worked with trainers on the side.

The Giants’ full Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: NT Dexter Lawrence (hip), CB Adoree’ Jackson (neck), CB Cor’Dale Flott (groin), LB Ty Summers (hamstring/ankle), P Jamie Gillan (hamstring), CB Tre Hawkins (ankle)

Limited participant: LB Brian Burns (groin), WR Byrce Ford-Wheaton (Achilles)

Full participant: WR Jalin Hyatt (ribs)

Giants’ Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns questionable vs. Eagles

The New York Giants have ruled two players out and listed NT Dexter Lawrence and LB Brian Burns as questionable vs. Philadelphia Eagles.

The New York Giants will limp into a Week 7 game against the Philadelphia Eagles down offensive tackle Andrew Thomas (foot) and edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux (wrist), each of whom is on injured reserve (IR).

They will also be without punter Jamie Gillan, who will miss his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury.

In Gillan’s absence, Matt Haack will handle both the punting and holder duties.

Meanwhile, nose tackle Dexter Lawrence (hip) and linebacker Brian Burns (groin) returned to practice on Friday but Daboll stopped short of guaranteeing they would suit up against the Eagles.

Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who cleared concussion protocol on Thursday, is expected to play but is now nursing a groin injury.

Giants injury report: Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns remain sidelined

While New York Giants rookie WR Malik Nabers is trending toward playing in Week 7, NT Dexter Lawrence and LB Brian Burns remain sidelined.

The New York Giants took the field on Thursday for their second of three practices ahead of a Week 7 game against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium.

Beforehand, head coach Brian Daboll revealed some positive news to reporters, noting that rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers advanced in concussion protocol and would practice in full.

If all goes well, Nabers will meet with an independent neurologist in hopes of being cleared to play.

The news wasn’t nearly as positive for nose tackle Dexter Lawrence and linebacker Brian Burns who, despite their vows to play on Sunday, missed their second straight day of practice.

Veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson was also sidelined on Thursday due to a neck injury.

Giants vs. Eagles: 3 causes for concern in Week 7

The New York Giants square off in a Sunday afternoon battle against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. Here are three reasons for concern.

The New York Giants will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Giants are in desperate need of a win sitting at 2-4 on the season and having already dropped their first two games against divisional opponents on the year.

Despite the fact that the Eagles seem much more flawed than the teams the Giants have seen in recent years, Big Blue opened up as 4-point home underdogs earlier this week. With plenty of Eagles fans making the trip to MetLife stadium, it will be a much more mixed crowd.

The Giants are, of course, coming off of their loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, the Eagles won a tight game against a spiraling Cleveland Browns team on Sunday that ended with head coach Nick Sirianni yelling at some displeased Eagles fans in the stands.

This is a game the Giants would love to win for a number of reasons.

Here are three causes for concern ahead of Sunday’s NFC East matchup.

Return of Saquon Barkley

Undoubtedly, this is the number one storyline ahead of Sunday. Saquon Barkley was one of the most popular players among Giant fans in recent history. Although he does not expect boos in his direction Sunday, Barkley may not have a full grasp of the level of hate between the two franchises.

The bigger concern is less about the emotions of Barkley’s move to the Giants’ biggest rival and more about his level of play so far this season.

Barkley has been impressive in his first five games with the Eagles and the Giants will have their hands full on Sunday.

No matter how much Barkley tries to downplay it, he is going to have extra motivation to have a big game against his former team. After all, he has shown resentment toward the Giants since his departure saying he felt disrespected by Big Blue and that leaving the franchise that drafted him was a blessing.

Injuries are beginning to pile up

It has been a true breath of fresh air watching the Giants’ offensive line this year, working as the cohesive unit that fans have been asking for for nearly a decade. However, New York’s offensive line took the biggest possible hit this week with star Left Tackle Andrew Thomas now out for the season following Lisfranc surgery.

The Thomas injury will be very tough to overcome as finding a replacement creates a real challenge and you can be sure the Eagles will look to expose the Giants’ O-line shuffle on Sunday.

The loss of Thomas is a massive concern but is one of a handful of injuries. Running Back Devin Singletary and rookie Malik Nabers have missed the last two games but the team seems optimistic that both will suit up Sunday.

There was some concern surrounding Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns, but both insist they will play after missing practice on Wednesday.

The Giants will also be without Kayvon Thibodeaux for the second consecutive game after being placed on injured reserve (wrist) last week.

Recent history

We all know how poorly the Giants have played against both the Dallas Cowboys and Eagles over the better part of the last decade. The Giants will be hoping to overcome that history and start to turn the page on Sunday.

This is most certainly not the same powerhouse Philadelphia team the Giants have gotten used to seeing in recent years, however. The Giants will have their hands full, especially with the weapons on the Eagles’ offense, which now includes Barkley. However, this game is very winnable and the small spread certainly supports that.

Giants’ Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns vow to play vs. Eagles

New York Giants NT Dexter Lawrence and LB Brian Burns, who each missed practice on Wednesday, vow to play against the Eagles in Week 7.

New York Giants nose tackle Dexter Lawrence did not participate in Wednesday’s team practice. He was listed on the injury report with a hip issue.

Lawrence told reporters after practice not to read too much into it. He’ll be ready to play versus the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

“I’m playing he declared. “I’m good. I’m where I’m at after every week.”

When asked why he didn’t practice, Lawrence said he was “just resting” and spoke about the importance of Sunday’s game.

“They all count for something. But, I think, right now, the division is all pretty square. We’ve still got opportunities. Our week, this week, just to take care of business and go out there and beat the Eagles,” he said.

Linebacker Brian Burns, who also missed Wednesday’s practice with a groin injury, is also ready to take care of business in Week 7, saying he has “no doubt” he will suit up.

And taking care of business means shutting down former teammate Saquon Barkley, who has been the Eagles’ best offensive player thus far in 2024. Lawrence always kidded with Barkley about facing him for real while the two were teammates. This time will be different.

“Like I told him, I had a chance to go against him in practice, in the Joe Judge era,” Lawrence said. “Got a couple of tackles in on him then. Now it’s time for a full game against him. I know what kind of player he is and his mindset going into games. I’m excited to compete and just beat the Eagles.”

Lawrence said there will be some trash talking but the crux of the matter is he knows they are up against in Barkley and knows they can’t let him get comfortable.

“I think we’ve got to stop Saquon from getting going. We’ve got to clog the holes. We’ve got to get a lot of guys on him, a lot of bodies on him. He’s good at finding the second lane, third lane type of thing,” Lawrence said. “We’ve got to stop his feet before he gets going because then he’s explosive. Elite back. We’ve got to stop his feet. We’ve got to beat the guys in front of us on the offensive line and make sure Saquon doesn’t get started.”

Asked what kind of reception Barkley will get from Giant fans on Sunday in his return to MetLife, Lawrence said there is “no telling.”

“Honestly, I think he did a lot of good for this organization,” continued Lawrence. “But, we’ve got some tough fans and they’re going to bring him in however they feel is right by them. I appreciate what he did for this organization and who he was as a teammate and a person to me, most importantly. But, Sunday is war and he knows that.”

A war the Giants need to win in order to keep afloat in the topsy-turvy NFC East.
