WATCH: Virginia QB Brennan Armstrong dominates vs. Illinois

Watch Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong’s impressive performance from last season against Illinois

College production doesn’t always equal pro success, especially for quarterbacks, but it certainly doesn’t hurt when a passer can demonstrate a consistent ability to put up huge numbers against Power 5 competition.

That’s what Virginia’s Brennan Armstrong did throughout the 2021 season, and why he’ll be one of the more intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2023 NFL draft class.

One of Armstrong’s many impressive performances from last year came against Illinois, when he threw for over 400 yards and five touchdowns in a blowout win for the Cavaliers.

Check out all the best highlights from Armstrong’s dominant outing against their Big Ten opponent last year:

13 reasons why Eagles GM will look to trade a 2022 first-round pick for more draft assets in 2023

After hearing his end of the year press conference, here are 13 reasons why #Eagles GM Howie #Roseman will look to trade a 2022 first-round pick for more #NFLDraft assets in 2023

During the 2021 NFL offseason, Howie Roseman was able to trade Carson Wentz and land a pre-draft deal with the Dolphins, resulting in three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, but after listening to his end of the season press conference, Philadelphia’s top decision-maker could have something even more brazen up his sleeves.

The Eagles are technically still in the midst of a rebuild and although they made the postseason, last year was still supposed to be about seeing what they had at quarterback and other key positions.

That press conference, coupled with a lack of star power in the upcoming draft is why the evaluation will continue,  giving Hurts another year as the starter,  but could Roseman move one of his coveted 2022 assets in hopes of greener pastures in 2023?

If Roseman still has dreams of a more conventional superstar passer or a once-in-a-lifetime pass rusher, the 2023 draft could offer at minimum, seven quarterbacks for Philadelphia and other teams to start targeting.

If Philadelphia dreams of an all-world pass-rusher or stud wide receiver, an extra first-round pick would be gold.

Here are some of the top 2023 signal-callers, a star running back, and one all-world edge rusher that could have Roseman waiting patiently for that greener pasture.

Former Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott and the Virginia football program received some good news this week heading into his first season as the Cavaliers’ head coach in 2022.

UVA quarterback Brennan Armstrong announced this week that he will be returning for his final season of eligibility.

“After a long talk with my family, I’m excited to announce I will be coming back to the University of Virginia and playing one more year,” Armstrong said in a video posted on social media Thursday night.

As a junior this past season, Armstrong passed for 4,449 yards, accounted for 4,700 yards of total offense and threw for 31 touchdowns — all single-season UVA records.

For his career (2018-21), Armstrong ranks second all-time at UVA with 6,824 passing yards, third in career total offense (7,720 yards) and third in career passing touchdowns (51).

ESPN releases Power Rankings through Week 11

No movement from the Irish in this week’s rankings.

With Virginia missing star quarterback Brennan Armstrong, Notre Dame rolled to an easy win in Charlottesville. By simply earning the victory, the Irish held steady in the latest ESPN Power Rankings. While some might have preferred that the win give ESPN cause to move the Irish up a spot, it still is nice to see the Irish still in the top 10. Here is the complete top 10 of the Power Rankings through Week 11:

Notre Dame-Virginia: Cavaliers announce starting quarterback

Should this one even be close tonight now?

We’ve waited all week to find out who will start at quarterback for Virginia against Notre Dame and we now have our answer.  Almost exactly a half hour before kickoff,

Virginia has announced that it won’t be regular starter Brennan Armstrong starting tonight, instead it will be freshman Jay Woolfolk.

Armstrong has some of the most impressive numbers in all of college football while Woolfolk has attempted only six passes all season long, completing two of them.

Notre Dame and Virginia kickoff at 8 p.m. ET and can be seen on ABC this evening.

Five keys for Notre Dame to defeat Virginia on the road

What are your keys for Irish success against UVA?

The Irish have their toughest test on the remains schedule Saturday night, as they travel to Scott Stadium to take on the Cavaliers of Virginia. They boast one of the best offenses in the country, so the Irish will have to score plenty of points to go back to South Bend with a win. Here are five keys for Notre Dame to get a win in Charlottesville.

Know you foe Virginia: Five Cavaliers who could give Notre Dame problems

Lots of solid Cavaliers will be on the field Saturday

The Irish travel to take one of the highest scoring offenses in the NCAA, the Virginia Cavaliers. They are the ACC version of Oklahoma, a high powered passing attack with an average running game and a below average defense. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some solid players on the UVA squad and here are five that could give Notre Dame trouble Saturday night.

Notre Dame-Virginia: Staff Predictions

What happens Saturday night under the lights at Virginia?

No. 9 (CFP) Notre Dame’s toughest remaining test of the 2021 regular season comes Saturday night as the Irish travel to Virginia.  The task at hand will be to slow one of the nation’s best offenses as the Cavaliers are averaging 38.9 points per game which ties them with North Carolina for the sixth-most by a Power Five team.

Notre Dame will again be without Kyle Hamilton while Virginia starting quarterback Brennan Armstrong’s availability won’t be publicly known until kickoff after he suffered a rib injury at BYU two weeks ago.

Notre Dame’s only previous trip to Charlottesville ended in dramatic fashion.  Will this trip end similarly?

Here is what the Fighting Irish Wire staff sees happening on Saturday night:

Tale of the Tape: Top Receivers – Kevin Austin vs. Dontayvion Wicks

There’s a changing of the guard for the Irish.

Heading into its game against Virginia, Notre Dame has an actual receiver as its leading receiver for the first time this season. Kevin Austin passed tight end Michael Mayer for that distinction against Navy with a 70-yard touchdown reception. It still is not a very high number for a top receiver on a major college team. However, it finally is nice to have a little parity somewhere on the offense.

The Cavaliers’ top receiver is Dontayvion Wicks, and he’ll easily reach 1,000 yards for the season Saturday barring a complete shutdown by the Irish’s secondary. That won’t be likely if Brennan Armstrong is able to overcome his ribs injury and start. If that’s not the case, many will wonder how well Jay Woolfolk can find Wicks when he has opportunities to do what he does best. This remains a fluid situation, and we won’t have an answer until we know the Cavaliers’ quarterback situation.
