Watch: Notre Dame’s latest commit trolls LSU while announcing

Can these two just get it on already and get it over with?

Tuesday saw four star wide receiver Braylon James become the newest member of the 2023 recruiting class for Notre Dame.  James had narrowed his list down to just Notre Dame, Stanford, and TCU before making his announcement Tuesday night, but pulled out a fourth hat and gave a scare to Notre Dame fans and an out of left field troll job to an SEC power.

James had caps of the three finalists on his table while making the announcement but it was a fourth that he grabbed from under the table that caused a brief surprise.  Take a look at the video below.

It would have had a bit more effect had LSU been thought to be in the running, but James announcing his finalists beforehand squashed that from being a real scare.

It’s a solid troll job in what is quickly becoming a college football cold war between Notre Dame and LSU.

They’ve never been regulars on each others schedules, have met in a few bowl games in recent decades, but have no games scheduled in the decade to come, but with anything Marcus Freeman and Brian Kelly do at their respective programs going forward, you can’t bet one will be compared to the other on the regular.

Notre Dame lands four-star receiver Braylon James

Nice get.

Notre Dame always could use high-end talent at the offensive skills positions. Entering Tuesday, it was one of the finalists for receiver recruit Braylon James, who was ready to announce his decision. If the Irish could get James, it would continue the momentum received from the commitment of running back recruit Gi’Bran Payne. And that’s exactly what happened as James has become the ninth commit in the Irish’s class of 2023 and the first junior to commit in two months.

When asked to comment by Rivals site InsideNDSports, James said the following:

“What separated Notre Dame was the life-after-football aspect. That degree is going to take you places that you can’t even imagine. On top of that, they have the entire Irish network.

If you look around, I am pretty sure that nearly everyone from Notre Dame is successful. It’s hard not to be successful in graduating from Notre Dame.

In having (head) coach (Marcus) Freeman there, he will elevate Notre Dame’s success on the football field. Just getting to know coach Free and seeing how much he cares about this entire process and seeing how he cares about the team.

I see him turning this entire program around. That is why they have done so well in this recruiting cycle, and it is going to continue to grow because of the fact that he genuinely cares and is invested in this process. It is going to be special.”

Oh, and he has high hopes about the program for his time with it, too:

Congratulations to James on his decision and to Irish receivers coach Chansi Stuckey on such a big get.

Notre Dame soon to land offensive line commitment?

Harry’s on it!

Notre Dame has gotten off to a stellar start defensively in the 2023 recruiting class but the offensive side has been a little bit slower to come about.  That could soon be changing however as a pair of Notre Dame targets are set to announce their college decisions in the next week.

Four-star wide receiver [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] is set to announce his college choice Tuesday night as Notre Dame is joined by [autotag]Stanford[/autotag] and [autotag]TCU[/autotag] as his three finalists.

Now interior offensive lineman Sam Pendleton of North Carolina is set to make his college choice known.  Pendleton tweeted that he’ll be making his decision known on Monday, April 25.  Pendleton didn’t do what most recruits do these days and name other finalists, instead simply stating that his announcement will soon be coming.

Four-star wide receiver set to announce college decision

Would this get the offensive ball rolling in the 2023 recruiting class?

Will Notre Dame officially land the first wide receiver in their 2023 recruiting class this week?

The Fighting Irish are not only a finalist but are seen as the favorites to land a commitment from four-star wide receiver [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] of Round Rock, Texas.  The 6-2, 175-pounder was a Texas 26-6A first-team all-district selection last year as a junior.

James named Notre Dame in his top-nine back in early March before making a visit to campus a couple of weeks later.  Based off several reports that visit went well and it would appear to be the leader, but as we’re all well aware, these things can change without any seeming rhyme or reason.

If he does choose Notre Dame he’d be the first commitment at the position since the hiring of [autotag]Chasni Stuckey[/autotag] as wide receivers coach this off-season.

James has over 40 scholarship offers to his name and is ranked among the top receivers in the country in the 2023 class as he ranks in the top-100 overall players by both Rivals and ESPN while being 124th on 247Sports.

James tweeted the following late Sunday night:

It seems like he may have jumped the gun just a hair in posting that as the expectation is that he’ll announce his decision on Tuesday.  Stay tuned as the [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag]’s recruiting class may be growing in the near future.

Texas star wide receiver has Notre Dame in his top group

The Irish are in the top group

The Irish have been doing a great job recruiting for the 2023 class, especially on the defense side of the ball. What is needed however, are big time playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.

Texas wide receiver Braylon James is a target for Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman got some very good news. James named his Top 9 schools which included Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, TCU, Texas A&M, LSU along with the Irish and a few others.

It will be difficult for the Irish to pull James away from his region, he visited LSU today and has three of his home state schools in his top group.

There is still hope, as two of his top 9 are Midwest school and the key for Freeman will be to get James to South Bend for an official visit.

Texas among top schools for four-star wide receiver Braylon James

One of the top wide receivers in the state.

The Longhorns have what could be their most loaded wide receiver room since the days of Collin Johnson, Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Devin Duvernay. However, Texas needs to continue to build it for years to come.

The trio of Xavier Worthy, Isaiah Neyor, and Jordan Whittington is one that could end up being one of the nation’s best receiver cores, but two out of the three can leave after the 2022 season. At the very least, the Longhorns are poised to lose Whittington who already announced that this season will be his final.

This has led to Steve Sarkisian and his staff hitting the recruiting trail extremely hard and targeting the nation’s top receiving talent. They received good news via Twitter late on Friday, as 2023 four-star wide receiver Braylon James announced the top nine schools left in his recruitment.

James is rated the No. 11 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting class and No. 15 overall prospect in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

The Del Valle, Texas native is a three-sport athlete that also plays basketball and runs track. He has racked up 89 catches for over 1,000 yards and 13 catches through two seasons for Del Valle High School.

Texas 2023 wide receiver will be visiting Notre Dame soon

Get him to South Bend quick!

The Irish are really starting to heat up their 2023 offensive skill position recruiting. Yesterday, we found out that California prospect Rico Flores has included Notre Dame with his top group of schools. Today, we are finding out that Texas wide receiver Braylon James will make a visit to South Bend in the near future.

It is unknown when that visit will happen, but according to Reel Goat Sports, James is heading north at some point soon. The confirmation of this report, James himself, who retweeted the post giving legs to this development. Holding an impressive collection of offers which include Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, USC and others, James is a big time player. At six-foot-two-inches and 175-pounds, he’s an electric playmaker that would look great in Blue and Gold.

Top targets for new Texas wide receivers coach Brennan Marion

The class of 2023 features some elite talent at wide receiver.

Steve Sarkisian got his top choice for Texas’ new wide receivers coach in Brennan Marion.

Marion is widely regarded as one of the better up-and-coming coaches in college football. He was instrumental in the development of 2021 Biltnikof winner Jordan Addison at Pitt and was being courted for a few Power Five offensive coordinator jobs.

A big reason Sarkisian brought in Marion from Pittsburgh was to improve recruiting efforts at the wide receiver position.

Texas missed out on many top wideout targets like Evan Stewart, Armani Winfield, CJ Williams and a few others. The Horns did land four-star speedster Brenen Thompson but wanted to see more dominos fall their way.

Texas will have many selling points to high school pass catchers. The success of Xavier Worthy, the addition of Brennan Marion and the opportunity for early playing time, just to name a few.

The good news for Marion is the 2023 recruiting class is absolutely stacked with elite wide receiver talent.

Here is a list of some of the top-rated 2023 wide receivers Texas has made priority targets:

4-star WR’s relationship continues to progress with Grisham, Clemson

The Clemson Insider reached back out to this Texas four-star wide receiver, who continues to prioritize building a relationship with Clemson.

TCI has the latest on Del Valle (Tex.) High School 2023 WR Braylon James.

James was supposed to make a gameday visit for Clemson’s matchup against Georgia Tech back on Saturday, Sept. 18, but he didn’t end up making it for the game. As he’s stated to TCI before, he’ll definitely be making it back to The Valley for a game this season, but it just has to line up with his parents’ work schedule.

After James made an unofficial visit to Clemson on July 31, he was counting down the days until he’d be able to hear from the Tigers and wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham.

“Me and Coach Grisham talk every week. It’s not daily, it’s probably every other day. He’s always hitting my line, whether it’s just checking up on me or asking for film and stuff like that. He’s still building a relationship with me. As far as offering, we haven’t come to terms with when that would happen, but we’re still building a good relationship. That’s my guy for sure.”

How have things progressed with Clemson since his visit?

“They’ve progressed a lot,” James said, ‘Like I said, Coach Grisham and I talk pretty frequently. I’m starting to get a little contact with Coach (Tony) Elliott. He sends me graphics here and there. I still haven’t had the opportunity to talk to him over the phone, just a little bit of texts here and there and him introducing himself to me. They shoot me a lot of mail, like every day there’s something from Clemson in my mailbox. That’s huge.

“I would definitely say it’s progressing. It’s taken another step. Once we finally get things rolling. I’m pretty sure they’re still focused on the season and trying to win some games and be the team I know they want to be.”

James added that he definitely feels the love and level of interest that Clemson has in him.

This past Friday, James had the opportunity to face-off against Clemson’s five-star quarterback commit, Cade Klubnik, who he’s built a close relationship with over the past year or so.

It’s been a rough go of things for Del Valle, which happens to be going through a transition year, or as James described it as a “culture shift”

The Cardinals fell to Klubnik’s Westlake High School, 63-6. The future Clemson gunslinger threw for six touchdown passes against James’s team.

Every time James posts something Clemson-related on social media, you can count on Klubnik being among those in his replies.

“He’s always telling me like ‘Bro, you know this is the move.’ He’s not really in my ear, kind of forcing me on it, but he’s definitely back there like man you see it, you see the love,” James said. “He’s definitely a guy who’s been recruiting me heavily.”

Speaking of his recruitment, James continues to rack in Power 5 offers. Since Sept. 1, he’s picked up offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Illinois. He also earned an offer from The University of North Texas.

5-stars headed to Death Valley for Clemson-Georgia Tech game

Clemson will again play host to some top prospects for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. game against Georgia Tech at Death Valley.

Here are some of the bigger names The Clemson Insider has confirmed as planned visitors for the Clemson-Georgia Tech game:

A couple of headliners among the recruits expected to be in attendance are a couple of five-star class of 2023 prospects in Merrillville (Ind.) Andrean linebacker Drayk Bowen and Pickerington (Ohio) Central safety Sonny Styles.

Styles is the No. 1 safety in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, which tab Bowen as the No. 2 linebacker in the class.

Bowen is working with a top five that includes Clemson along with Auburn, Indiana, LSU and Notre Dame.

A big-time receiver from the Lone Star State is slated to be on hand for Saturday’s game as well in Del Valle (Texas) four-star Braylon James, the No. 11 wideout and No. 75 overall prospect in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

James has built a strong bond with Clemson receivers coach Tyler Grisham.

“Me and Coach Grisham are super close man,” James told TCI recently. “No matter where I go I know I’ll always have a backbone in him.”

Among other notable class of 2023 recruits on Clemson’s anticipated guest list for Saturday’s game are Alpharetta (Ga.) Denmark four-star linebacker Dee Crayton, Piedmont (S.C.) Wren defensive back Travon West, Alcoa (Tenn.) offensive lineman Lance Williams, Perry (Ga.) athlete Jamari Stone and Port Huron (Mich.) Northern edge defender Luke Fletcher.

Clemson 2022 offensive line commitment Collin Sadler of Greenville (S.C.) will also be in The Valley on Saturday.
