Notre Dame’s top in-state remaining prospect set to commit on Saturday

The Irish should hear some good news on Saturday morning

As we have looked at Ohio State’s invasion of Indiana, [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] does have to keep some of it’s best talent home.

Their top remaining in-state target, athlete [autotag]Brauntae Johnson[/autotag], will make his decision this coming Saturday at 10:00 a.m. EST. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 170 pound player is ranked as the 13th best athlete and 168th overall player according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Reading the actions taken by Johnson this spring, it’s a bit murky about who will be his selection. He has taken just two official visits so far, one to Michigan State and the other to South Bend. Johnson also has a scheduled visit to Purdue starting tomorrow and it’s hard to think that he won’t be canceling that visit as his announcement looms.

If I had to guess, Johnson will be making his verbal to the Irish on Saturday, so expect the 2024 class to grow over the weekend.

Which 3 wide receivers Notre Dame should target with a spot open in 2024 class

Who should the Irish target at receiver in 2024 with a spot open?

Unfortunately for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], 4-star wide receiver Isaih Canion decommitted on Saturday.

The Irish aren’t in a terrible position, they still have commitments from [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Micah Gilbert[/autotag] with athletes [autotag]Teddy Rezac[/autotag] and [autotag]Brauntae Johnson[/autotag] potentially getting reps at the position as well.

With Canion leaving the class, there are still 20 current commits so it would be a good idea to add another receiver to replace him.

The Irish didn’t have any uncommitted wide receivers make an official visits during the spring period, so that means they will bring in potential matches during a Saturday in South Bend. Here are my top three targets the Irish should turn to with an open scholarship.

Scout’s view: Notre Dame’s newest commit, 2024 athlete Brauntae Johnson

The new Irish commit has a lot of qualities that will play at the next level

Notre Dame was able to keep one of the best players from leaving the state on Saturday as 2024 athlete [autotag]Brauntae Johnson[/autotag] made his verbal commitment to the Irish.

He becomes the 21st commit in the class, one that should end up with around 25 total signees. The addition of Johnson gives the Irish one of the most intriguing athletes in the country.

His junior season film makes you wonder what he will be, especially considering most of his highlights are of Johnson’s offensive plays. There is a reason why many consider him an athlete, the skill set he possess plays on both sides of the ball. Find out below what I saw after watching his highlight tape.

Notre Dame continues hot recruiting, in-state 2024 athlete commits

The Irish start their Saturday with a verbal commit

We have seen stretches from [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] recruiting like this before, where multiple prospects verbal to the Irish in a short period of time.

On Saturday morning, it was in-state athlete [autotag]Brauntae Johnson[/autotag], who became the fourth commit in June for the Irish. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 170 pound two-way star is regarded as one of the best in the country, ranking as the 13th athlete and 168th overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite.

At this moment Johnson could end up playing either wide receiver or safety but could grow into a linebacker. All of this depends on how his body fills out once Irish strength coach [autotag]Matt Balis[/autotag] can transform him.

Johnson becomes the 21st commitment for the Irish in the 2024 recruiting class that is ranked among the best in the country.

Notre Dame’s top 2024 in-state target has set his commitment date

Does the Indiana star stay close to home?

[autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] doesn’t always go after prospects from their home state, but when they do, the Irish typically come away with a commitment.

That could very well be the case once again with Fort Wayne athlete [autotag]Brauntae Johnson[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 180 two-way player is coming off an official visit to South Bend last weekend.

Johnson is rated as the 12th best athlete and 161st overall player according to the 247Sports composite rankings. The North Side High School star will make his verbal commitment on June 24th, the a day after an official visit to Purdue has been scheduled.

The timing isn’t great for the Irish, but Johnson does seem to favor Notre Dame at the current moment.

Notre Dame trending to land in-state 4-star 2024 athlete

The Irish could land this impressive in-state athlete

It’s always been a bit odd when [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] has big time talent in their backyard and they don’t make them a priority recruit.

Yes, some of it is off the field, but just in the 2024 recruiting cycle, the top two Indiana prospects are headed to Ohio State. The third ranked player, Fort Wayne athlete [autotag]Brauntae Johnson[/autotag] looks to be a different story.

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 170 pound athlete has Notre Dame in his top group and will make his official visit in June. Johnson is now believed to be leaning towards committing to the Irish, as On3’s Mike Singer puts a 60% confidence level on his prediction.

Johnson is ranked as the 12th best athlete and 161st overall player according to the 247Sports composite. He could end up as a wide receiver or defensive back when he arrives on a college campus.
