A March Madness men’s bracket prediction based on the best NBA talent in the tourney

Do you want to see as many NBA players play as many games as possible? Here is how!

March Madness is almost underway, and with the games beginning soon, you’re probably scrambling to get your bracket filled out.

It’s always great to follow along for Cinderella stories and potential upsets. Maybe you don’t want to fill out a bracket, and that’s perfectly okay. The odds of getting a perfect bracket are virtually impossible, anyway.

There are plenty of alternatives you can try to a traditional bracket, like a survivor pool. However, assuming you do want to fill out a bracket, we’ve got some tips!

My pal, Charles Curtis, offered his bracket based on just 20 minutes of research. You can check out our brilliant staff’s actual predictions for March Madness, too.

But allow me to show you what a bracket would look like if we based it entirely on what would be the best-case scenario for NBA draft scouting. If you want to take a closer look and zoom in, you can click here.

THE BRACKETS ARE BACK: The USA TODAY Sports Bracket Challenge is back. $1 MILLION grand prize for a perfect bracket.

The goal here was to get as many lottery picks playing as many games as possible. Here are some takeaways:

  1. Arkansas is the No. 8 seed in the West and they have a tough first-round opponent with Illinois. But they also have two likely lottery picks, Nick Smith Jr. and Anthony Black, and two other potential first-rounders with Ricky Council IV and Jordan Walsh. Let me see them play as many games as possible!
  2. Over the last few days, we’ve heard a buzz that Alabama’s Brandon Miller has “closed the gap” on projected No. 2 overall pick Scoot Henderson. If he continues to dominate during the Big Dance, we could see actual movement at the top of the draft.
  3. Duke is a No. 5 seed in the East and they have one of the toughest roads to the Final Four, especially with a challenging opening game against Oral Roberts. But they have three likely first-rounders here (Dariq Whitehead, Kyle Filipowski, and Dereck Lively II) and two more draftable prospects (Tyrese Proctor and Mark Mitchell) as well.
  4. Jarace Walker (Houston), Keyonte George (Baylor), Cason Wallace (Kentucky), Jalen Hood-Schifino (Indiana), Colby Jones (Xavier), Jordan Hawkins (UConn), Kris Murray (Iowa), Terquavion Smith (NC State), and Julian Phillips (Tennessee) are additionally notable prospects who will be dancing.

If you’re curious about these players, you can learn more about why these prospects are the best in the tournament on our rankings published earlier this week.

My best advice when you’re filling out a bracket is that the eventual winner who will tear down the nets is almost definitely going to be one of these eight teams.

But if you’re an NBA fan and just want to see as many future NBA players play as often as possible, this is the way you need to fill out your bracket instead.

Texas G Marcus Carr deemed one of the top players in the NCAA Tournament

A huge reason for Texas’ success this year has been the play of senior point guard Marcus Carr.

Texas basketball is enjoying one of its best seasons in recent memory. The Longhorns earned a No. 2 seed entering the NCAA Tournament, boasting a 26-8 record and a Big 12 tournament championship.

A massive reason for Texas’ success this year has been the play of senior point guard Marcus Carr.

Carr took a significant step forward in leading the Longhorns offense in his second season in Austin. He is averaging 15.9 points and over four assists per game.

USA TODAY Sports mentions Carr along with Purdue’s Zach Edey and Alabama’s Brandon Miller, as one of the best players entering March Madness.

The Longhorns have a balanced attack but will go the way of Carr, who can score but also loves to set up teammates. Texas hasn’t been to a Final Four since 2003, and did it then with the play of another stellar point guard, T.J. Ford – their stats, by the way, are eerily similar.

Carr opted to return to Texas for his final season with the goal of winning a national championship for the Horns. He now has Texas in a great position to make a deep tournament run.

Alabama HC Nate Oats says Brandon Miller played through groin injury in SEC Tournament

Alabama head coach Nate Oats spoke with the media on Monday. He said that Alabama freshman forward Brandon Miller played through a groin injury in the SEC Tournament.

Alabama freshman sensation Brandon Miller played through a groin injury in the SEC Tournament, according to Alabama head coach Nate Oats. He informed the media of the news on Monday.

Miller was recently named as a finalist for both the John Wooden Award and Naismith Award. In addition, he was named as the SEC freshman of the year and SEC newcomer of the year by coaches across the league.

His stellar play in the conference tournament will only increase his chances of winning prestigious awards like the Naismith and Wooden Award.

Miller averaged 20.3 points per game and recorded two double-doubles in the SEC Tournament.

It is unclear whether the injury will impact Miller’s performance considering he did battle through the injury to help the Tide win its eighth SEC Tournament Title.

Miller’s injury will be something to monitor as the Tide look to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama basketball program.

Zach Edey, Trayce Jackson-Davis headline AP All-America first team

Edey and Jackson-Davis headlined the players named to the Associated Press All-America first team.

Purdue junior Zach Edey and Indiana senior Trayce Jackson-Davis headlined the players named to the Associated Press All-America first team on Tuesday.

Edey, the Big Ten Player of the Year, was the only player to appear on all 58 first-team ballots after averaging 22.3 points, 12.8 points, 2.1 blocks and 1.5 assists with the Boilermakers. He ranks sixth in the country in scoring, second in rebounding and first in double-doubles (26).

Jackson-Davis became the first Hoosier since Victor Oladipo in 2013 to earn first-team honors after averaging 20.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.7 blocks. He ranks 16th nationally in scoring, 13th in rebounding and sixth in blocks (82).

Joining Edey and Jackson-Davis on the first team are Kansas forward Jalen Wilson, Houston guard Marcus Sasser and Alabama forward Brandon Miller, who was the only freshman to appear on the list.

AP named Jaime Jaquez Jr. (UCLA), Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky), Drew Timme (Gonzaga), Azuolas Tubelis (Arizona) and Jalen Pickett (Penn State) to the second team. On the third team were Markquis Nowell and Keyontae Johnson (Kansas State), Tyler Kolek (Marquette), Kris Murray (Iowa) and Armando Bacot (North Carolina).

Podcast: Watching NCAA’s March Madness from a Rockets perspective

Today’s @TheLagerLine explores March Madness from a #Rockets perspective, starting with NBA draft prospects like Brandon Miller and Jarace Walker who could be in play for Houston.

French big man Victor Wembanyama and NBA G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson are widely viewed as the top two prospects entering the 2023 NBA draft. But, who comes next? Enter the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, known best as March Madness.

Though the Houston Rockets are tied for the fewest wins in the NBA this season, that only results in a 27% chance of obtaining one of the top two draft selections due to flattened lottery odds. They are, however, nearly certain to land a top-seven selection.

With that in mind, Monday’s episode of “The Lager Line,” sponsored by Clutch City Lager of Karbach Brewing, examines the next draft tier after the two phenoms. Hosts Ben DuBose and Paulo Alves and draft analyst Madison Moore, evaluated college prospects such as Alabama’s Brandon Miller, Houston’s Jarace Walker, Baylor’s Keyonte George and Arkansas’ Nick Smith Jr.

The show also explores the differing competition levels between Wembanyama and Henderson’s professional teams, the NCAA Tournament, and other prospects such as Amen and Ausar Thompson of the Overtime Elite, as well as the NBA projectability of each.

Monday’s full podcast can be listened to below. Each episode of the show is also available via flagship radio station SportsTalk 790, as well as to all major podcast distributors under “The Lager Line.”

LOOK: Alabama celebrates SEC Tournament Championship win

The top images of Alabama basketball’s SEC Tournament Championship celebration!

As confetti fell inside Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag], and the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team celebrated their SEC Tournament Championship victory over the Texas A&M Aggies.

This is the second time in three seasons that coach Oats and the Tide have won both the regular season SEC title and the SEC Tournament.

With the win, Alabama also secured the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and is set to play in Birmingham on Thursday in the first round.

Here are some of the top images as coach Oats and his team cut down the nets and celebrated their SEC title.

Everything Nate Oats said after Alabama won the SEC Tournament Championship

Everything Alabama’s Nate Oats said after winning the 2023 SEC Tournament Championship!

For the second time in three seasons, Nate Oats and the Alabama men’s basketball team have cut down the nets in Nashville as the SEC Tournament champs.

Alabama controlled the game over for the majority of the contest, but a flurry of threes and dunks in the middle portion of the second half led the Crimson Tide to a dominating 82-63 win over Texas A&M.

On Sunday, Alabama also secured the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Following the win, Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats spoke to members of the media to discuss his team’s performance. Here is everything coach Oats had to say!

Alabama earns top overall seed in 2023 NCAA men’s basketball tournament

The Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team enters March Madness as the top overall seed.

Alabama men’s basketball has earned the top overall seed in the 2023 NCAA men’s basketball tournament after an impressive season that has netted the program an SEC regular season championship and an SEC Tournament title.

Nate Oats has continued to improve the program throughout his time in Tuscaloosa, and the 2022-2023 season has been his best yet. Now, the Crimson Tide will have its eyes set on one goal: winning a national championship.

Two seasons ago, Alabama won the SEC regular season and tournament, as the team has done this season, and made it all the way to the Sweet 16, but lost in overtime to UCLA.

According to the recently-revealed bracket, Alabama will play the winner of Southeast Missouri State and Texas A&M-CC.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball as March Madness begins and the NCAA Tournament gets underway.
