5 CBs Colts could draft to replace Stephon Gilmore

Taking a look at five CB prospects the Colts could draft to replace Stephon Gilmore.

With cornerback Stephon Gilmore headed to Dallas, the Indianapolis Colts need young talent to replace him.

Additionally, with Brandon Facyson returning to Las Vegas and Kenny Moore’s future undetermined, the team is currently fragile at the position.

All eyes turn to the 2023 NFL Draft, where the Colts have nine draft picks and three in the fifth round alone. Unsurprisingly, general manager Chris Ballard has found great value in the later rounds, including cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr., who also enters a contract year.

Cornerback now becomes the second-most important position for the franchise.

Here are five cornerback prospects the Colts could draft to replace Gilmore:

Colts free agent CB Brandon Facyson to sign with Raiders

Pending free agent CB Brandon Facyson agreed to a deal with the Raiders.

Indianapolis Colts pending free agent cornerback Brandon Facyson agreed to a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, per multiple reports Monday. Terms of the contract were not immediately disclosed.

Facyson was the first of the Colts’ pending free agents to find a new team, doing so just a few hours after the legal tampering period commenced Monday afternoon.

Facyson joined the Colts roster last offseason on a one-year deal and held a starting role for the first half of the season. However, things didn’t work out too well as Facyson lost his starting role Isaiah Rodgers Sr. during the second half.

This will be Facyson’s second stint with the Raiders after he joined former Raiders and current Colts defensive coordinator Gus Bradley during the 2021 season.

In 16 games (four starts) with the Colts in 2022, Facyson recorded 28 tackles (26 solo) and six passes defended without recording an interception.

Raiders bringing back CB Brandon Facyson

Brandon Facyson is back with Raiders

After a season in Indianapolis with former Raiders defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, Brandon Facyson is headed back to Las Vegas.

The sixth year cornerback agreed to terms with the Raiders today according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. The team with which he started a career-high nine games in 2021.

The news comes on the heels of the Raiders adding former Eagles safety Marcus Epps as the team attempts to fill holes in their secondary.

Facyson started just four games for the Colts last season, so he is far from a sure answer at cornerback for a Raiders team that had just Nate Hobbs as a returning starter.

Needing two starters would cause most teams to be a bit more aggressive at the position, but so far the Raiders appear to be approaching free agency looking for bargains, not big splashes (James Bradberry perhaps?). Though we’ll see how this plays out. It’s still just the first day, after all.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Brandon Facyson suffered a concussion during Sunday’s game against the New York Giants and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Facyson suffered the injury early in the first quarter and went into the blue medical tent. He was ruled out before the end of the first half.

With Facyson ruled out, the Colts are extremely depleted in the cornerback room. Both Kenny Moore II (ankle) and Isaiah Rodgers (knee) were out for this game so the Colts will be leaning on undrafted rookie Dallis Flowers.

Colts downgrade CB Brandon Facyson to out vs. Vikings

Colts CB Brandon Facyson was downgraded to out for Saturday’s game against the Vikings.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Brandon Facyson (illness) was downgraded from doubtful to out ahead of the Week 15 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced Friday.

Facyson didn’t practice all week due to an illness and was listed as doubtful on the final injury report. With Facyson and Kenny Moore II (ankle) ruled out, the Colts will be down two of their top-four cornerbacks.

Leading the secondary will be Stephon Gilmore and Isaiah Rodgers. The Colts could use rookie Dallis Flowers a bit more on defense while they also could use more three-safety sets as they did against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 13.

Regardless, the Colts secondary will be hurting when they take on arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL in Justin Jefferson on Saturday.
