Panthers, Chargers request interview with Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown

The Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers have requested an interview with Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown for their vacant GM job.

The Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers have requested an interview with New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown for their vacant GM job, reports NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The Panthers fired general manager Scott Fitterer on Monday after a 2-15 season. That record normally would have earned the Panthers the top pick in this year’s NFL draft, but Fitterer traded that pick to Chicago last year for the right to draft Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.

Brown, the Giants’ assistant general manager for the past two seasons under Joe Schoen, has been a rising star in the organization and it is no surprise that he is being considered to run an NFL front office.

Before joining the Giants, Brown, 35, worked in the Philadelphia Eagles’ front office since 2017 in various roles.

Four-star DT Brandon Brown commits to Texas

Steve Sarkisian and company earn their fourth commitment in two days.

247Sports composite four-star defensive tackle Brandon Brown committed to Texas on Tuesday afternoon. The Longhorns on set to bring in a great one for the 2025 recruiting class.

Brown stands just under 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 286 pounds per 247Sports. That he is a college-sized defensive tackle as a junior bodes well for his college ceiling.

The talented tackle from Florida is a huge get for defensive line coach Bo Davis. Defensive line recruiting has improved under the current coaching regime led by defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski. Texas will look to mold Brown into the type of productive player that current defensive tackles T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy have been this season.

For head coach Steve Sarkisian and company, Brown joins portal transfer Andrew Mukuba and talented recruits in safety Xavier Filsaime and tight end Emaree Winston to commit to Texas in the last two days.

Texas will look to continue its recruiting success with a strong signing day on Wednesday.

Brandon Brown to participate in NFL’s Front Office Accelerator Program

New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown will participate in the NFL’s Front Office & General Manager Accelerator Program.

Brandon Brown, the New York Giants assistant general manager, has been invited to participate in the NFL Front Office & General Manager Accelerator Program which will be held from December 11-13 at the league meeting in Dallas, Texas.

From the Giants:

42 highly qualified candidates of diverse backgrounds, across player personnel, football operations and assistant general manager disciplines were selected for the opportunity to build relationships with club owners and executives ahead of the hiring cycle.

In addition to networking, candidates will participate in a range of personal and professional development programming, including practice interviews led by former general managers and leadership sessions from outside experts. For the first time, personal development workshops, have been included to focus on candidates’ overall wellness and mental preparedness when applying for roles.

Brown, 35, is in his second season with the Giants as general manager Joe Schoen’s top deputy.

“Brandon is an invaluable contributor to our overall football operations team,” Schoen said. “He is a tireless worker and thorough evaluator. Brandon’s strong leadership qualities and communication skills allow the respective departments in football operations to function efficiently and effectively.”

Before joining the Giants, Brown spent five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, most recently as the team’s director of player personnel in 2021. Brown was in charge of overseeing the Eagles’ pro scouting department and also worked with the college scouting department.

Brown is widely viewed as a general manager candidate and should receive a few interviews this offseason assuming there are open positions.

Giants’ Brandon Brown, Tim McDonnell scouted Michigan-Ohio State

The New York Giants had three representatives on hand for Michigan-Ohio State, while general manager Joe Schoen scouted Oregon-Oregon State.

The college football game of the week came on Saturday afternoon from The Big House where Michigan defeated their arch-rivals, Ohio State, by a score of 30-24.

At least 14 NFL teams sent representatives to the game, including the New York Giants.

Those on hand from the Giants were assistant general manager Brandon Brown, director of player personnel Tim McDonnell, and area scout Brendan Prophett.

With a potential top-5 pick in the 2024 NFL draft on tap, the Giants were likely keying in on wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Other prospects they got to see include wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, edge rusher T.J. Tuimoloau, cornerback Denzel Burke, quarterback J.J. McCarthy and more.

Harrison hauled in five receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown in a losing effort.

Elsewhere around the country, the Giants continued to do their due diligence and that included general manager Joe Schoen, who again was on hand to take in some action.

Giants’ Joe Schoen personally scouted Caleb Williams, Michael Penix on Saturday

New York Giants GM Joe Schoen and several other shot callers from the organization personally scouted USC-Washington over the weekend.

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen was among a large contingent who attended the USC-Washington game on Saturday.

Schoen was flanked by assistant general manager Brandon Brown and director of player personnel Tim McDonnell as they got an up close and personal look at two of the nation’s top quarterbacks — Caleb Williams and Michael Penix.

Both Williams and Penix put on quite the show, too.

In a 52-42 Washington victory, Penix completed 22 of his 30 passes for 256 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Williams completed 27 of his 35 passes for 312 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and one fumble in a losing effort.

With the Giants likely headed for a top pick in the 2024 NFL draft, it makes sense that Schoen & Co. would want a good look at the top available quarterbacks — even after signing Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million deal.

The Giants dropped to 2-7 on the season following a 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9, and Jones appears to have suffered a season-ending torn ACL, putting his future very much in doubt.

In addition to Washington-USC, the Giants also had scouts at the following games:

Florida football legacy DL hoping for game day visit this fall

No date is set yet, but this in-state legacy defensive lineman wants to give Florida a chance to win him over.

The start of the fall football season is nearly here, which means that recruits will begin trickling into college stadiums around the country to get a look at what their suitors have to offer.

Florida football is among those teams hosting a handful of blue-chip prep prospects during the 2023 campaign as Billy Napier and Co. continue to rebuild a program that was neglected on the recruiting front for far too long before his arrival. One current high schooler that the staff is looking to get on campus is four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Brandon Brown[/autotag] out of Melbourne (Florida) Eau Gallie in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 275-pound trench warrior — who is a legacy through his uncle, former Gators defensive tackle Joe Cohen — visited the Swamp in late June while also dropping in for the Grill in the Ville event at the end of July. After enjoying the Gators’ hospitality during his previous stops, the high school junior is eyeing another visit during the college football regular season.

The main point of contact between Brown and the team’s coaches has been defensive line grad assistant Kali James Jr., who “hits (him) up every day,” according to On3’s Keith Niebuhr.

“I like him and his workout,” Brown told Gators Online. “We did speed and agility drills, stuff like that. I feel like I needed to run back more after I do a one-on-one. Get back. I wasn’t running like I normally do. He liked how I used my hands… I liked the (June) camp and I liked how it was inside.”

The blue-chip recruit has plenty of suitors among the top programs in the nation, with the LSU Tigers, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee Volunteers and the Miami Hurricanes also strongly under consideration by the Sunshine State product. The ‘Canes are currently at the head of the pack when it comes to his recruitment.

“Miami definitely is hard to beat right now,” Brown said. “No. 1 probably. The love they show is great down there. I’ve been there three times and I feel like home every time I’m down there.”

He has a trip to Coral Gables set for Sept. 9, when the Hurricanes host the Aggies in South Florida. Despite his lean toward Miami, Brown still insists that Florida is in play for his talents.

“Yes, definitely… I’ve just got to get back out there for a visit,” Brown said. Hopefully, his next stop is more than the “quick little walk-through” it was last time, when he “didn’t really take a full visit.”

Brown is ranked No. 210 overall and No. 24 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at the Nos. 168 and 19, respectively.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine favors Miami (33.9%) with the Central Florida Knights (10.5%), Florida (9.0%) and South Florida Bulls (7.5%) trailing in the race for his commitment.

Brandon Brown credits Giants’ player personnel directors for Jordon Riley discovery

New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown says Dennis Hickey and Tim McDonnell were the ones who discovered NT Jordon Riley.

Sometimes you stumble on a guy late in the draft that just comes right in and plays lights out without missing a beat.

Such could be said about defensive lineman Jordan Riley, a well-traveled 25-year-old rookie the New York Giants selected with the 243rd overall selection in this year’s NFL draft.

Riley has played extensively in the preseason and he has played well. Noted for his strong play against the run, Riley has also shown that he can get into the backfield, push the pocket and get to the quarterback.

Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown didn’t take the credit for unearthing the gem that is Riley at his media session on Monday, but told the story behind how the 6-foot-5, 325-pounder out of Oregon became a Giant.

“I can’t mention Jordon Riley without mentioning Dennis Hickey and Tim McDonnell (the Giants’ directors of player personnel). They were driving forces in terms of the process of Jordon,” Brown said.

“I remember going back to my notes; Jordon’s not on anybody’s radar. It’s October, Dennis Hickey goes out to Oregon and sees him and is like, ‘B, listen, I’m just telling you this guy has traits that we want to play with knockback, we want to be big up front, want to control the line of scrimmage, he fits our brand of ball.’ Tim tells me, ‘B, we need to go see him play.’ So, Tim and I went and saw him play against Cal. Tim’s been the ultimate checks and balances for me, someone that I have blind trust in where he says, ‘We need to go watch this guy, and we come apart from it, you can walk out to warmups, and he sticks out like a sore thumb.'”

Riley’s teammate, linebacker Azeez Ojulari — a third-year player who is actually two years younger than Riley — had this to say on Monday.

“He’s coming in head down working every day, focused, locked in. You’ve got big Dex (defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II), (defensive lineman) Leo(nard Williams) in there grinding, helping him out, Nacho (defensive lineman Rakeem Nuñez-Roches), (defensive lineman) A’Shawn (Robinson), they’re all working on him. He’s pushing them every day and he’s just improving every day, going hard and getting better.”

The Giants, after years of Day 3 failures at the draft, are finally getting some hits.

Giants’ Brandon Brown suggests Jalin Hyatt was actually limited at Tennessee

New York Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown says WR Jalin Hyatt has “more talent in his body” than his defined role at Tennessee suggests.

Did the New York Giants get a steal when they traded up in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft to select Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt?

Many experts believe they have and Hyatt himself has done nothing to dissuade them by asking the spectacular look routine with his record-setting and eye-popping speed.

On Monday, Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown told reporters that they haven’t seen anything yet.

Hyatt, the 73rd overall pick this spring, was the 10th wide receiver taken in the draft and perhaps has been the most written about thus far. and while most think the Giants found a diamond, there have been some who question Hyatt’s maturity and whether or not he’s a speed-only guy.

Brown clearly disagrees with that notion, as have Giants scouts.

On Friday against Carolina, Hyatt followed up an embarrassing drop with an easy touchdown against the overwhelmed veteran safety Eric Rowe.

From Paul Schwartz of the New York Post:

The growing anticipation is that Hyatt will repeat that kind of long-range assault on opposing defenses often enough this season — with Jones making the throws — to ensure the rookie goes down as an NFL draft steal as a third-round pick.

There is no doubt, though, the entire Giants operation is brimming with excitement about what Hyatt might be able to provide to an attack that was last in the league last season in pass plays of 20 or more yards.

Hyatt once scored five touchdowns against Alabama while at Tennessee. He knows how to get into the end zone. His foot speed has been recorded at an unprecedented 24 MPH.

The previous NFL high was held by Miami Dolphins superstar Tyreek Hill at 22 MPH while he was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

So, you can see why the Giants are excited to have Hyatt in the fold. He still needs reps to help him polish up his game, but the raw skill and speed are unquestionable.
