OT Brandon Baldwin removes name from NCAA transfer portal, returns to Michigan State football

Brandon Baldwin, who has started 15 games at left tackle the past two seasons, has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal:

On the same day the Spartans learned Ethan Boyd would return to Michigan State, the offensive line gained another boost: Left tackle Brandon Baldwin also removed his name from the transfer portal and will return to East Lansing for 2024. Baldwin started all 10 games he played in during the 2023 season, while starting in five games during the 2022 season.

Baldwin is an experienced offensive lineman that Smith will love to have a part of the program as he looks for a quick rebuild.

A day after Michigan State received commitments from 4-star defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny and JUCO offensive tackle Brandon Baldwin, the class of 2021 has garnered another commitment. 3-star cornerback Steffan Johnson announced his commitment to MSU on Tuesday via Twitter.

Johnson, who stands at 6 feet and 160 pounds, attends Venice High School in Venice, Florida. He is 247Sports’ No. 134 cornerback and No. 210 player in the state of Florida for the class of 2021.

When he announced his commitment date last week, he was projected to go to Michigan State. But, over the last few days the Crystal Ball projections had him going back to Rutgers over Michigan State. Ultimately, Johnson chose Michigan State over Rutgers and other colleges. Johnson is the 19th different commit in the class of 2021. Mel Tucker has done an impressive job of recruiting prospects over the past few months, will it continue as the 2020 season comes to an end and preparations for the 2021 season begin?

Baldwin announced his decision via Twitter on Monday afternoon — making him the second commit of the day and third in the last 24 hours for MSU. Four-star 2021 defensive tackle prospect Rayshaun Benny announced he’s going to be a Spartan on Monday, and offensive guard Kristian Phillips of the 2022 class committed on Sunday night.

Baldwin is originally from Southfield, Mich. and played his high school ball at Southfield A&T before attending Independence Community College in Kansas last fall.

Baldwin is listed at 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds, and is ranked as the No. 4 offensive tackle in the JUCO rankings by 247Sports. Baldwin chose Michigan State over offers from Maryland, Louisville, Eastern Michigan and Liberty.

Baldwin is the 18th commit in the 2021 class, and continues the trend of recruiting massive offensive linemen to East Lansing. He is the first junior college commit for MSU and has three years of eligibility remaining, according to 247Sports.

We know that the new Michigan State Football head coach Mel Tucker loves some tall offensive tackles, and now it looks like he is going to try and dip into the community college talent pool for a rising JUCO star with some major size.

On Monday, Brandon Baldwin, a 6-foot-7 offensive tackle from Independence Community College in Kansas announced that he has received an offer from the Spartans.

247Sports has Baldwin predicted to wind up with MSU, but has also has recent offers from Maryland, Eastern Michigan, Missouri State, Liberty, and Western Illinois. This looks to be a nice fit for Baldwin given Tucker’s penchant for tall, lengthy offensive linemen.
