Second Houston Texan, Bradley Roby, hit with 6-game suspension

Bradley Roby joined Will Fuller V as a suspended Houston Texan

The Houston Texans were hit with a double whammy on Monday. First, WR Will Fuller V announced he had been suspended by the NFL for six games. Hours later, DB Bradley Roby revealed he had received the same ban from the league.

Per the Houston Chronicle:

The suspensions of Fuller and Roby carry over to the first game of the 2021 season. Fuller, who is in his fifth season, missed playing time in each of the first four because of injuries. His suspension means he will miss five games for a fourth consecutive season.

Roby missed six games in 2019, his first season with the Texans, with a hamstring injury.

Texans CB Bradley Roby announces 6-game suspension for violation of NFL PED policy

Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby announced his six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.

Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby will be away from the defending AFC South champions through the rest of the 2020 campaign.

According to a statement attributed to Roby via the NFL Network’s James Palmer, Roby will be suspended six games for violation of the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.

“I apologize to my family, my teammates, the Houston Texans organization and the fans,” the statement from Roby reads. “A few months ago I unknowingly used a product that was contaminated with a banned substance by the NFL. I recognize that it is my job to know, and be responsible for, everything I put in my body. I will be suspended six games ending my season.”

Roby collected 37 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and an interception in his 10 games for Houston, all of which he started.

The six-game suspension of Roby comes the same day that receiver Will Fuller announced his suspension under similar circumstances.

“I will take the necessary steps in the future to prevent this from ever happening again,” Roby wrote. “I look forward to rejoining my teammates next season in our goal to bring a championship to Houston.”

The Texans are coming off a 41-25 win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving at Ford Field, and improved their record to 4-7. Houston faces the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 6 at NRG Stadium.

Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby has be declared as out against the Jacksonville Jaguars for Sunday’s 12:00 p.m. CT game at TIAA Bank Field.

On Friday, interim coach Romeo Crennel told reporters that he expected Roby to play.

“Roby practiced also, so he’ll go play,” Crennel said.

Roby left the Week 7 contest with the Green Bay Packers early in the first quarter with a knee injury. The Texans would go on to lose 35-20.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Roby is missing the game due to disciplinary reasons.

With the Texans’ bye in Week 8, Roby had a full week off to rest and get ready for the rematch with the Jaguars.

The Texans will rely on cornerbacks Vernon Hargreaves, Phillip Gaines, Lonnie Johnson, Keion Crossen, and rookie John Reid to carry the burden as Roby misses his first game of the season.

Texans ran man coverage against Packers WR Davante Adams when CB Bradley Roby was out

The Houston Texans defense decided to play man coverage against Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams when CB Bradley Roby was out with an injury.

The Houston Texans were dealt an unlucky hand early in the first quarter of their 35-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Cornerback Bradley Roby left the game with a knee injury. Filling in for the former Denver Broncos 2014 first-round pick was Phillip Gaines, who is primarily a special teamer.

According to interim coach Romeo Crennel, the Texans didn’t alter their game plan much when Roby went out. In fact, the Texans continued to run man coverage even with Gaines matched up one-on-one with the three-time Pro Bowler.

“We had some man calls after Roby went out, and they didn’t always work the way we anticipated that they were going to work,” Crennel said.

To defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver’s credit, the Texans did adjust and start to run more zone coverage against the Packers.

“Some of them were zone calls,” Crenne said. “You know, we played some zone, and they were still able to get deep against some of the zone calls as well. But not having your matchup corner and not being able to match up on their best guy, I think it did hurt us.”

Adams caught 13 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns as the Packers got back on track with a 5-1 record, erasing their 38-10 letdown at Tampa Bay from a week ago.

“Well, looks like he played pretty good,” said Crennel. “I think he had a lot of targets and made a lot of yards. So, I’ve got to say he played pretty good.”

The Texans have the bye week coming in Week 8, which will allow them assess where they are at with Roby and the rest of their cornerback group. Gareon Conley, who was supposed to be their lockdown cornerback, is still working through an ankle injury in the offseason that he had to have surgery to repair.

Texans’ Romeo Crennel on CB Bradley Roby’s injury: ‘Don’t think it’s major’

Houston Texans interim coach Romeo Crennel says that cornerback Bradley Roby’s knee injury from Week 7 isn’t considered major.

Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby sustained a knee injury in the first quarter of the club’s 35-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium.

Roby being out of the game allowed receiver Davante Adams to feast on Roby’s backup, cornerback Phillip Gaines. The three-time Pro Bowler caught 13 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns as the Packers led the entire way.

According to interim coach Romeo Crennel via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the knee injury shouldn’t be that serious.

“I don’t have a health report, but I don’t think it’s major,” Crennel said. “He will go through a series of tests, and then we’ll know more then.”

The Texans have the benefit of the Week 8 bye to evaluate the status of Roby, who signed a three-year, $36 million contract during the first wave of free agency in March.

Houston hasn’t had their ideal scenario at cornerback this season with Gareon Conley still working through an ankle injury and not having played a game this season. Losing Roby for any extended period of time would similarly impact the unit.
