Texans place CB Bradley Roby on COVID-19 reserve

Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby has been placed on the COVID-19 reserve.

The Houston Texans have had to place a player on the COVID-19 reserve after two weeks of training camp at Houston Methodist Training Center.

According to Aaron Wilson of Sports Talk 790, the Texans placed cornerback Bradley Roby on the COVID-19 reserve.

The Texans have their first preseason game with the Green Bay Packers Saturday night at Lambeau Field. Roby, who is atop the depth chart at one of the two cornerback spots, could have seen some live action snaps before he has to serve his one-game suspension in Week 1, a carry over from his six-game suspension with five games to go last year.

“It was an unfortunate situation, but I have a strong faith in God, and I always feel like every step of the way He’s always put me in a position to where everything’s going to work out on its own,” Roby said on Aug. 5. “Last year was a lot of things going on. It was a lot of things negative in the building. So, I think it just pulled me away and gave me a big-picture view. I got to see how I did things wrong. I got to see how a lot of things work, and it just made me mature even more.”

Texans DC Anthony Weaver says he had no reaction to Will Fuller, Bradley Roby suspensions

Houston Texans defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver found the suspensions of WR Will Fuller and CB Bradley Roby on par for 2020 and had no reaction.

The suspensions of receiver Will Fuller and cornerback Bradley Roby stunned the Houston sports community, but there was one Texans assistant coach who didn’t get worked up over the losses.

Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver told reports Thursday that when he learned of the six-game suspensions of Roby and Fuller, which will keep them out of the Texans’ final five games, he just took it in stride.

“Honestly, this year in particular I didn’t have much of a reaction at all,” Weaver said.” Those type of things are actually unsurprising.”

2020 has been a strange year from COVID-19 knocking out the offseason to having no preseason games to Houston starting 0-4 to coach Bill O’Brien getting fired. The Texans have had so many emotional triggers throughout the calendar year that the blinker may be broken.

Although Weaver didn’t have a reaction Monday night, he does know how much Roby meant to the defense as a cover corner, and they will have to find solutions from within.

“It’s unfortunate,” said Weaver. “He’s a very good player. He’s been very productive for us, but we’ve been in this situation before. We were without him in Jacksonville and we went out there and we delivered a victory. Nothing changes.”

Roby was out for the Week 9 game against Jacksonville, and the Texans cobbled together a solution at cornerback with Phillip Gaines and Keion Crossen for a 27-25 win.

“The expectations don’t change,” Weaver said. “We’re just going to do everything we can, and the next man has to step up to go out there to try to get a win.”

The Texans take on the Indianapolis Colts Sunday at 12:00 p.m. CT at NRG Stadium. A win would give Houston a three-game winning streak and optimism as they seek to backdoor their way into the postseason after a tumultuous start to the season.

Texans CB Bradley Roby announces 6-game suspension for violation of NFL PED policy

Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby announced his six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.

Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby will be away from the defending AFC South champions through the rest of the 2020 campaign.

According to a statement attributed to Roby via the NFL Network’s James Palmer, Roby will be suspended six games for violation of the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.

“I apologize to my family, my teammates, the Houston Texans organization and the fans,” the statement from Roby reads. “A few months ago I unknowingly used a product that was contaminated with a banned substance by the NFL. I recognize that it is my job to know, and be responsible for, everything I put in my body. I will be suspended six games ending my season.”

Roby collected 37 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and an interception in his 10 games for Houston, all of which he started.

The six-game suspension of Roby comes the same day that receiver Will Fuller announced his suspension under similar circumstances.

“I will take the necessary steps in the future to prevent this from ever happening again,” Roby wrote. “I look forward to rejoining my teammates next season in our goal to bring a championship to Houston.”

The Texans are coming off a 41-25 win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving at Ford Field, and improved their record to 4-7. Houston faces the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 6 at NRG Stadium.
