Bleacher Report names Ravens as best fit for ‘underrated’ free agent WR

The Ravens were named as a fit for an “underrated” free agent wide receiver by Bleacher Report

The Baltimore Ravens made a big move when they traded away wide receiver Marquise Brown during the 2022 NFL draft. The team sent him and a third-round selection to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for the 23rd overall pick in the draft, which ended up being traded for the rights to take center Tyler Linderbaum out of Iowa.

Despite Baltimore’s decision to trade Brown, they currently haven’t replaced him on the roster, either with a free agent signing or by selecting one in the draft. However, when listing off the most “underrated” free agents still available and the best fits for them, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report named the Ravens as a fit for former Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Will Fuller V, saying that he could step in as a deep threat for Baltimore’s offense.

“…The Baltimore Ravens have one of the league’s most underwhelming wide receiving corps and traded away speedster Marquise Brown during the draft. Fuller could step right in as Lamar Jackson’s new deep threat on the perimeter.”

Fuller is an extremely talented receiver, but injuries have plagued him for most of his career. He was only able to play in two games in 2021 after signing a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, and has missed numerous other contests over the course of his six-year NFL career. He’s totaled 213 catches for 3,136 yards and 24 touchdowns in six years, and can stretch the field effectively when he’s healthy, a skillset that the Ravens could use in their offense.

The Baltimore Ravens wide receiver group currently consists of extremely young players that are looking to use their talent to make an impact on the field in 2022. The room saw a big trade impact their personnel, as during the 2022 NFL Draft, Baltimore traded wide receiver Marquise Brown to the Arizona Cardinals. The team also lost Sammy Watkins in free agency, and moved on from Miles Boykin. Following the move, what the Ravens have left are second-year wideouts Rashod Bateman and Tylan Wallace, third-year players in Devin Duvernay and James Proche II as well as others.

In an article published by Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus, he named one trade or free agent acquisition for all 32 NFL teams before 2022 training camp. When it came to Baltimore, Kyed believed the team should sign Miami Dolphins free agent wide receiver Will Fuller V. When explaining his reasoning, Kyed said Fuller could hold a role similar to what Brown had.

“The Ravens are currently set to start 2021 first-round pick Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay and James Proche at wide receiver after trading away Marquise Brown to the Arizona Cardinals and losing Sammy Watkins in free agency. Fuller has had trouble staying healthy, but he could be a reasonable facsimile of Brown if he’s looking to play in 2022. The Ravens were identified as an attractive landing spot for veteran wide receivers, per one source.”

Fuller, 28, has had a hard time staying healthy through the course of his career. He has not once played a full NFL season throughout his six year career. Prior to the 2021 season with the Dolphins, Fuller played with the Houston Texans where he showed flashes of greatness at the position, even if his seasons were cut short.

The Ravens could be in the hunt for a wide receiver and Fuller makes the most sense for the team right now, even if they roll the dice on him playing a full season in 2022. He is a deep-threat that could replace some of the production that the team lost in Brown, and could be worth taking a chance on for Baltimore.

In six seasons as a professional, Fuller has caught 213 passes for 3,136 yards and 24 touchdowns.

6 top free-agent WRs Ravens should target in free agency

With free agency right around the corner and the Baltimore Ravens needing help at wide receiver, these are the best options available.

One of the milestones of the offseason is the start of free agency. The “legal tampering” period begins on March 15, meaning teams can begin negotiating with free agents ahead of the start of the league year on March 17. The Baltimore Ravens, having more available salary-cap space than most of the league, could be among those signing deals in the first wave of free agency.

One of Baltimore’s top offseason needs is at wide receiver, something the Ravens will need to address either in the 2021 NFL draft or free agency. While Marquise Brown has managed to flash on some big plays over his two seasons in the league, he only recently became a more consistent weapon late last season and into the playoffs. With the team clearly needing to improve their passing attack, finding a top wide receiver to pair with Brown makes quite a bit of sense.

With money tight around the league, it’s expected that free agency will be flush with great options for Baltimore to choose from. Let’s take a look at six free-agent wide receivers that would fit well in the Ravens’ offense.

Second Houston Texan, Bradley Roby, hit with 6-game suspension

Bradley Roby joined Will Fuller V as a suspended Houston Texan

The Houston Texans were hit with a double whammy on Monday. First, WR Will Fuller V announced he had been suspended by the NFL for six games. Hours later, DB Bradley Roby revealed he had received the same ban from the league.

Per the Houston Chronicle:

The suspensions of Fuller and Roby carry over to the first game of the 2021 season. Fuller, who is in his fifth season, missed playing time in each of the first four because of injuries. His suspension means he will miss five games for a fourth consecutive season.

Roby missed six games in 2019, his first season with the Texans, with a hamstring injury.

Houston Texans’ Will Fuller announces 6-game suspension by NFL

Houston Texans receiver Will Fuller V has been suspended for 6 games by the NFL

It has been a rough year in Houston. And as the Texans appeared to get things in order, they saw their offense take a major hit on Monday.

Wide receiver Will Fuller V announced on Instagram he has been suspended by the NFL for six games.

Earlier this year, I sought treatment from a medical professional who prescribed medication that he believed to be permitted under the NFL’s drug policy. As it turns out, my trust in this professional was misplaced because this medication was NOT a permitted substance under the NFL Policy on Performance Enhancing Substances.

As a result of this mistake, I have been suspended for six games for taking this prohibited medication. I want to sincerely apologize to the Texans organization and all of my fans for this mistake. I am looking forward to putting this all behind me and returning better than ever in 2021.

Thank you, Will

Fuller has had trouble staying on the field due to injury since being drafted by the Texans out of Notre Dame in 2016. He has never played more than 14 games in a season. This year, he has 53 catches for 879 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Former Irish star WR Fuller V emerges on NFL’s opening night

Is this the year the former Notre Dame star Will Fuller V finally stays healthy and becomes WR1?

It didn’t start out all that well for former Notre Dame star wide receiver Will Fuller V. Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson looked his way early, threw a very catchable ball but Fuller V dropped it.

It got much better from there, as Watson didn’t let the drop effect his confidence in Fuller V. He would later make up for it and have a very solid game, showing why the Texans shipped off DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals.

The final line for Fuller V was 8 receptions for 118 yards, but he didn’t find the end zone. Watson targeted Fuller V ten times, double what any other receiver got. Fuller V is going to get plenty of opportunities to show why he was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. He just needs to stay healthy and we could be seeing Fuller V one the verge of breaking out and becoming a WR1.

Ranking the top-10 WRs in the AFC South

Who are the top 10 WRs in the division?

With the departure of DeAndre Hopkins in March, this division lost its most talented receiver. While the move was good news for the Colts, Jaguars and Titans, it did raise a lot of questions as to who would take the top spot.

The 2020 season will be a “prove it” year for a lot of receivers either on new teams or fighting for another contract.

Here are the top 10 wide receivers in the AFC South entering the 2020 season:

10. Michael Pittman Jr.

The addition of Pittman in Indianapolis is highly anticipated and he is expected to be an immediate part of this offense. With a rare combination of size and speed, he creates a matchup problem for many corners around the league. It should be an exciting 2020 for this reformed Colts offense.

9. Chris Conley

Conley did well with a change of scenery in Jacksonville last season. With 775 yards and five touchdowns in 2019, Conley proved he is a valuable target. Alongside Chark, these two will be a solid duo for Gardner Minshew this upcoming season.

8. Kenny Stills

Stills has quietly been one of the league’s most consistent receivers the past few seasons. He has proven to be a solid deep ball threat but has failed to really impress and take over a game. With a now crowded receiving corps in Houston, Stills will have a lot to prove in 2020.

7. Corey Davis

Another guy who has a lot to prove in a contract year, Davis has not seen the success in Tennessee that was originally anticipated. With A.J. Brown emerging as the No. 1 target for the Titans, Davis will have to find his role before he is given another deal.
