10 Philadelphia Eagles make ESPN’s Top-300 Fantasy Football Rankings

Even with last seasons struggles, the Philadelphia Eagles have one of the deepest and more talented offenses in the NFL.

With the NFL season slowly creeping up and excitement building, Mike Clay of ESPN.com released his early top-300 fantasy football rankings. The Eagles are clearly representing landing 9 players and their defense/special teams on the list.

31. Miles Sanders RB PHI (RB14)

33. Zach Ertz TE PHI (TE3)

92. Carson Wentz QB PHI (QB10)

112. DeSean Jackson WR PHI (WR51)

115. Jalen Reagor WR PHI (WR54)

139. Boston Scott RB PHI (RB44)

152. Alshon Jeffery WR PHI (WR65)

155. Dallas Goedert TE (TE17)

191. Jake Elliott K (K11)

300. Eagles D/ST (DST22)

Sanders and Ertz are players fans will covet early on, with Carson Wentz and DeSean Jackson being mid to late-round picks that should deliver points.

Jalen Reagor is a player to watch, while the Eagles defense could easily move up rankings as the season progresses after adding guys like Darius Slay and Javon Hargrave.

Eagles running game will flourish with Miles Sanders as the workhorse RB

Miles Sanders can be a workhorse RB for the Philadelphia Eagles

The bulk of the 2020 NFL offseason has been centered around whether or not the Philadelphia Eagles need to add another running back to the roster.

The Eagles currently have Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Corey Clement, Elijah Holyfield, Adrian Killins, and Michael Warren on the roster.

With several veteran free agent running backs available on the open market, the discussions have centered around finding a complimentary piece to fit with second-year running back Miles Sanders.

Sanders believes he can be a workhorse back for the Eagles and during a recent workout, he referenced his 2020 MVP goals loudly.

The numbers from Sanders rookie year and the offensive additions suggest that the former Penn State star should have a monster 2020 season.

Sanders amassed 1,327 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns as a rookie while splitting time with Jordan Howard. After Howard left the lineup with a pinched nerve, Sanders flourished, mixing explosive plays in with tough running.

When Sanders needed a breather late last season, it was Boston Scott who used the reps to prove that he belongs in the NFL. Until a veteran is officially signed, the late-season look will likely be the status quo with Corey Clement, Killins and Warren mixed in.

Look for the Eagles to allow Sanders to be the workhorse, utilizing schemes and formations that’ll prevent the running back from getting worn down.

Sanders is going to be used in the running game, the passing game, and the dangerous screen game that allows the Eagles to flourish.

With DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery returning on the outside and the additions of Marquise Goodwin, Quez Watkins, John Hightower, and Jalen Reagor, teams won’t be able to stack the box on Sanders either.

The Eagles pass to set up the run, so look for Doug Pederson and company to get Sanders involved on all three downs. If Pederson can step away from his running back by committee approach and find creative and efficient ways to utilize Sanders like the Panthers use Christian McCaffery, the second-year back could have a monster season.

Philadelphia Eagles backfield duo ranked among the worst in the NFL

Philadelphia Eagles backfield duo ranked among the worst in the NFL by PFF

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the best young running backs in all of the NFL, but it’s the rest of his running mates who are having that Rodney Dangerfield moment.

The Eagles currently have veterans Boston Scott, Corey Clement, and Elijah Holyfield on the roster. They’ll add undrafted free agents Adrian Killins and Michael Warren to a talented but untapped group.

In a recent ranking of running back duo’s from Bleacher Report, the Philadelphia Eagles finished among the worst, landing at No. 30 on the list just ahead of the Rams and Steelers.

30. Philadelphia Eagles

RB1: Miles Sanders (79)

RB2: Corey Clement (70)

Total: 149

The rankings were determined by a combination of evaluation, Pro Football Focus grades, the analytics from Football Outsiders, along with opinions from pro and college scouts around the NFL.

The assumption is that a healthy Corey Clement will supplant Boston Scot in the lineup despite the Darren Sproles mini-me playing a huge role in helping the Eagles secure the division title late last season.

Even tho the Eagles pass to set up the run, they’ll need to figure out how to produce offense on the ground, while lessening the hits Quarterback Carson Wentz takes.

Philadelphia Eagles roster comparison: 2019 vs. 2020 offense

Philadelphia Eagles roster comparison: 2019 vs. 2020 offense

The Philadelphia Eagles 90-man roster is currently full and as the Birds move forward with their virtual offseason workout program, we’re interested in taking an early comparative look at the Eagles offensive roster from last season and a projected depth chart as it currently stands.

There’s been a change at left tackle for now, while the receiving corps is a lot faster and younger after some draft day wheeling and dealing.

Let’s take a  position by position look at how the Eagles offense in 2020 compares to 2019.

Josh McCown Nate Sudfeld

Heading into last season the Eagles were looking for Sudfeld to take the next step as a passer, while Carson Wentz was preparing to prove to the world that he could play an entire 16 game regular season. Fast forward and Josh McCown joins the roster after Sudfeld suffers a wrist injury, while Wentz has the first 4,000-yard passing season in Eagles history while leading the franchise to the playoffs.

Heading into the 2020 season, Wentz is facing unnecessary criticism once again after being knocked out of the Eagles Wild Card loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Clowney’s hit on Wentz would precipitate the Eagles drafting Jalen Hurts in the second-round and setting off an offseason of questions, excitement, and what-if’s.

Miles Sanders says he’s ready to take on a bigger workload for the Philadelphia Eagles

Miles Sanders says he’s ‘absolutely’ ready for a bigger workload

Miles Sanders had a phenomenal rookie season transitioning into the Eagles running back of the present and the future.

After tasting playoff success and smashing a few rookie records, Sanders has been working out constantly preparing for the 2020 NFL season.

The former Penn State star led the Eagles in carries during his rookie campaign, logging the rock 179 times for 818 yards with three TDs, while also turning into the Birds best weapon in the passing game after adding 50 receptions for 509 yards and another three scores.

On Wednesday, Sanders told SiriusXM NFL Radio that he “absolutely” sees himself taking on a bigger load in 2020.

“I believe that’s why they drafted me in the first place,” Sanders said. “It was really just a switch, honestly, that turned. All of a sudden, I was a starting running back, and I didn’t start at the beginning of the season. So, I just looked at it as an opportunity, and I just attacked it.”

The Eagles could decide to add a veteran to the mix but have a decent stable of backs in Sanders, Corey Clement, Boston Scott, Adrian Killins, and Michael Warren.

5 Philadelphia Eagles who are underrated entering the 2020 NFL Season

5 Philadelphia Eagles who are underrated entering the 2020 NFL Season

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2020 NFL season with a solid team that has postseason potential and room for more if some big-name stars are able to remain healthy.

The Eagles are stacked at several positions but there are several key players that enter this upcoming season criminally underrated.

Here’s five Philadelphia Eagles that are underrated entering the 2020 NFL season.

Dallas Goedert

TE Dallas Goedert

Ertz is the big dawg in terms of name recognition and status, but it’s Goedert who helps make the engine go via pass-catching and run blocking. Goedert is a top-ten tight end and we’ll have every right to demand significant compensation when his turn arises. At times last season, Goedert had earned an 81.4 PFF grade that ranked seventh at the position despite not being a deep threat. On targets of less than 10 yards downfield, Goedert was PFF’s third-highest-graded tight end, and he was second in yards after the catch per reception at 8.6. Combine that with his run blocking prowess and Howie Roseman has a decision to make.

Philadelphia Eagles 2020 offense set to have a 49ers feel?

Doug Pederson says Eagles’ offense will ‘look a little bit different’ in 2020

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the offseason looking to get younger and faster on both sides of the ball. That mission has been accomplished with noted acquisitions like Darius Slay, Javon Hargrave, Will Parks, Jalen Reagor, K’Von Wallace, and several others.

Eagles brass entered the offseason with an agenda on offense and Doug Pederson’s deliberate approach with retooling the coaching staff now makes sense after seeing his comments in a recent Inquirer article detailing how the Birds are looking to become the 49ers of the east in some sense.

Last season the Eagles ranked 16th in passing yards, 11th in rushing yards and 12th in total touchdowns scored. Those are playoff worthy numbers, but it speaks to the Eagles too often needing luck or a big play to bounce their way down the stretch.

Pederson addressed his evaluation process and the schematic changes we can look forward to in Philadelphia this coming season.

“I think what we’ve done as a staff in the offseason with our scheme evaluation, making things better, the staff hires that I’ve done to bring in new thoughts and new ideas and ways to enhance our offense, I think (the offense) is going to look a little bit different,” Pederson recently said, via the Inquirer.

Rich Scangarello appears to be the central figure in the retooling of the coaching staff and although Pederson calls his own plays and Press Taylor was elevated to the passing game coordinator, it’ll be the 49ers, former assistant coach making all the waves.

Scangarello has worked with Shanahan and has a history with Sean McVay, so Doug Pederson appears to be banking on the offensive consultant providing the Eagles with different looks, formations, and schematic advantages that Carson Wentz can take advantage of.

Shanahan’s offenses preach space, efficient use of the open field, with zone-blocking concepts in the running game, and devastating play-action passing.

Scangarello we’ll most certainly incorporate some of Shanahan’s offensive concepts that allowed San Francisco to finish the 2019 season in the Super Bowl after they finished second in scoring, fourth in total yards, second in rushing and fifth in third-down efficiency.

7 Eagles’ reserves who need to step up during the 2020 NFL season

7 Eagles reserves who need to step up during the 2020 NFL season

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2020 NFL season as playoff contenders and Super Bowl 55 hopefuls.

The Birds will ride the arm of Carson Wentz and a revamped defense that now includes a shutdown cornerback and a dominant interior defensive line.

With the Eagles starters looking solid across the board, it’ll be imperative for a group of reserves to step up this season.

Here are 7 Eagles reserves who’ll be called upon in huge moments and need to step up during the 2020 NFL season.

1. Malik Jackson

Jackson will be super motivated after missing the entire season due to a foot injury suffered in the 2019 season opener against the Washington Redskins.

Jackson is looking at starting the season as a reserve after the Eagles inked Javon Hargrave to a monster deal.

Howie Roseman signed Jackson to a three-year deal in hopes of pairing the talented defensive tackle with Fletcher Cox.

Eagles may have found perfect complement to Miles Sanders in UDFA RB Adrian Killins

Eagles undrafted free agent back Adrian Killins could be the perfect running mate for Miles Sanders

The Philadelphia Eagles ignored addressing the running back position during free agency and the entirety of the NFL draft, but Howie Roseman may have had a method to his madness.

After bypassing running backs, Roseman signed two undrafted free agents at the position. One player, Michael Warren, is a thumper who’ll definitely have an opportunity to put his stamp on the roster.

The guy that could turn his post-draft signing into a bonafide roster spot is Adrian Killins.

The 5-foot-7, 162-pound running back is fast and productive while specializing in finding the endzone. He’ll go down in UCF history after finishing his career with 2,459 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns career. His 6.1 yards per carry average ranks third in school history.

Killins wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine, but if he had, he would have clocked one of the fastest times.

In 2019 with UCF, Killins rushed 87 times for 629 yards and seven touchdowns, while adding eight catches for 120 yards and another score.

Killins and Warren should both make the Eagles 53-man roster while ensuring that Miles Sanders doesn’t get ran into the ground next season.

Philadelphia Eagles among teams that spend the least amount annually on the RB position

Philadelphia Eagles spend the least amount of money in the NFL on the RB position

The Philadelphia Eagles currently have three running backs on the roster and a franchise that has generally avoided paying huge money to the position looks to continue the trend heading into the 2020 NFL season.

According to Over The Cap, the Eagles are among the bottom 10 teams in the NFL in the salary paid to the running back position.

The Eagles currently have Miles Sanders, Boston Scott and Elijah Holyfield on the roster. According to Spotrac, the Eagles have the least amount of salary allotted to the position in 2020, and after avoiding running backs in free agency, it won’t be rising any time sooner.

The Eagles could be interested in Leonard Fournette if the cost is low, while the team could also fill the void via the draft this week.
