Boise State vs New Mexico Game Preview

Why Boise State Will Win

So what went right in the debacle of a 34-17 loss to Oregon State to start the season?

Hank Bachmeier might still end up being the starting quarterback, but Taylor Green came in and provided a spark for the running game with one big dash, and he was far more effective through the air.

The defense wasn’t awful against the run – that’s a stretch, though – and overall, the team is far better than it showed, especially defensively.

New Mexico might have been wonderful in its 41-0 opener against Maine, but it’s about to welcome in a jacked up team looking to get its season going.

But …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why New Mexico Will Win

Rocky Long is one amazing defensive coach.

The former New Mexico head man is the current defensive coordinator, and his bunch was a rock against Maine with a slew of plays in the backfield all while allowing just 118 yards of total offense.

On the other side, QB Miles Kendrick looks like he’s going to be the right fit to settle the position, the offensive line came up with one of its best performances in years, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Did that look like a Boise State team that had its stuff together?

It’s missing the big play pop on either side against the Beavers, there were five turnovers, nothing happening down the field, and too many struggles on third downs.

New Mexico’s defense will prove that it’s far, far better than past seasons, but it’s about to run head first into a Boise State team that’s about to prove that it’s far, far better than it was Saturday night.

Boise State vs New Mexico Game Preview

Why New Mexico Will Win

The running game is getting a bit better.

It’s not necessarily leading to wins, but the Lobos went from struggling on the ground – and in offense as a whole – to coming up with three of its best rushing days of the season over the last three games.

One of the decent days – even with just 147 yards on the ground – was part of the win over Wyoming.

Boise State doesn’t run all that well, the offense hasn’t been its normal explosive self, and now it’s dealing with a Lobo defense that hasn’t been that bad.

But …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

Why Boise State Will Win

The running game is getting a bit better.

The Broncos weren’t great over the first part of the season on the ground, but it’s coming off a three-game run with its best three rushing days of the season – winning all three games.

In this, it also helps that New Mexico doesn’t and can’t score.

Dead last in the nation in scoring, the Lobos are averaging fewer than 14 points per game, haven’t scored more than 17 points in and of the last eight games, and it’s not going to  go off against a Boise State defense that hasn’t allowed 20 points in four of the last five games.

NFL Expert Picks: CFN Week 11

What’s Going To Happen

Boise State needs to win this and get a little help – Utah State has to lose and it would help if Air Force loses to Nevada or UNLV – and the Mountain Division title hopes are still alive.

It starts with dominating a struggling New Mexico team that’s not going to score enough to matter.

What’s Going To Happen

Boise State can’t lock down the Mountain Division with a win, but it won’t hurt.

It still has to get by Utah State on the road next week.

First, the Broncos get a light scrimmage in their final home game of the year – at least until, possibly, the Mountain West championship.

New Mexico has lost six straight, and the bad season got a whole lot worse after the tragic death of defensive lineman Nahje Flowers – the Lobos postponed their game with Air Force last week.

On the field, there’s no defensive hope against the Broncos. It’s been a bit of a struggle lately for a team with dreams of playing in the Cotton Bowl and now it’s time to have some fun with a massive offensive display that the Lobos won’t be able to slow down.

The Boise State defensive front will clamp down on the New Mexico running game, the team will be a +3 in turnover margin, and this will quickly turn into a light scrimmage on Senior Night.
