Saints sign LB Ty Summers from Jaguars practice squad

Ty Summers is headed to New Orleans and the Jaguars have already kicked the tires on a couple potential replacements for the practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a couple practice squad spots to fill. The latest vacancy came when the New Orleans Saints added linebacker Ty Summers to their active roster Tuesday.

Summers, 26, was scooped up by the Jaguars on waivers after preseason when he didn’t make the Green Bay Packers’ final 53-man roster. Soon after, the Jaguars waived him too and re-signed him to the practice squad before Week 1.

While Summers has spent almost the entire season on the practice squad, the Jaguars activated him a few times and had him active for three regular season games. Summers handled special teams duties in games this season against the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and Tennessee Titans.

Now he’s headed to New Orleans after the Saints placed interior offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz on injured reserve and filled the hole with Summers.

The other open spot on the practice squad was the void left by cornerback Gregory Junior getting moved up to the active roster.

Jacksonville has already kicked the tires on a couple options to potentially add to the practice squad. On Monday, former Titans linebacker Olasunkanmi Adeniyi visited the Jaguars and on Tuesday, the team worked out veteran offensive tackle Bobby Massie.

7 Broncos free agents are still unsigned

The list of Broncos free agents still unsigned includes Alexander Johnson, Bobby Massie, Diontae Spencer and Shamar Stephen.

The Denver Broncos re-signed 11 of their in-house free agents this offseason, including running back Melvin Gordon, outside linebacker Malik Reed and defensive lineman DeShawn Williams.

The Broncos didn’t re-sign all of their in-house free agents, though — 10 signed with other teams and seven remain unsigned. Here’s a quick look at the team’s unsigned free agents who remain available.

5 great right tackle options on market with Raiders set to add $20 million under the cap

Raiders are about to add $20 million in spending cash and there are still a lot of great right tackle options on the market

We tend to think of free agency having a couple of waves that happen back in March. But there’s another wave that is building strength as we speak. This one crashes on the shore on June 1.

This offseason the Raiders made a few cuts, some to save cap money, some to simply let go of unproductive players. A couple of those cuts left a scar — specifically the releases of Cory Littleton and Carl Nassib.

But in order to limit the bleeding in the short term, they gave those players a post-June 1 cut designation. This means that after June 1, a large portion of the dead money they left behind is moved to next year’s cap, which in turn frees up that money right now.

It’s no small amount, either. The Raiders will see their available money under the cap go up nearly $20 million after June 1 — $19.75 to be exact — raising it from the current available amount of around $5 million to over $25 million.

One position of great need for the Raiders this offseason which they have not sufficiently addressed is offensive tackle — right tackle specifically. And, as it turns out, there are actually still a lot of solid starting options out there, presumably waiting for this day so teams will have the funds to offer them a suitable salary.

5 free agent right tackles Broncos should consider signing

With the exception of right tackle, the Broncos’ offensive line looks pretty good at the moment.

The Denver Broncos’ offensive line is nearly set.

Garett Bolles has the left tackle job locked down, earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2020 and Pro Bowl alternate recognition in 2021. Calvin Anderson provides good depth at tackle.

Denver also has plenty of options for the interior offensive line positions with Dalton Risner, Graham Glasgow, Netane Muti, Quinn Meinerz and Lloyd Cushenberry competing for three spots.

The only weakness on the Broncos’ offensive line is the starting right tackle job. Here’s a quick look at five free agent tackles Denver might consider when the NFL’s free agency negotiating window opens on Monday.

Broncos inactives: 12 players out vs. Chargers with COVID-19

Broncos’ list of players out vs. Chargers with COVID-19 includes WR Jerry Jeudy, OLB Bradley Chubb, RT Bobby Massie, WR Tim Patrick and LB Baron Browning.

Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) cornerback Ronald Darby (shoulder), inside linebacker Kenny Young (concussion), defensive lineman Justin Hamilton, offensive tackle Drew Himmelman and wide receiver Rico Gafford are inactive for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the team announced.

Meanwhile, Broncos defensive lineman McTelvin Agim, inside linebacker Baron Browning, cornerback Bryce Callahan, outside linebacker Bradley Chubb, outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper, defensive back Mike Ford, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, right tackle Bobby Massie, wide receiver Tim Patrick, defensive lineman Mike Purcell, safety Caden Sterns and outside linebacker Stephen Weatherly are all sidelined with COVID-19 this week.

Those 12 players are not officially on the inactive list because they do not count against the active roster while on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, but they obviously won’t be playing against the Chargers today.

To replace those 12 players on the game day roster, Denver called up 12 players from the practice squad.

The Broncos opened the week as 5.5-point underdogs against Los Angeles, according to Tipico Sportsbook. Following the team’s COVID-19 outbreak, Denver is now listed as a 7.5-point underdog.

Sunday’s game will air on CBS at 2:05 p.m. MT (view the TV map here).

Vic Fangio provides updates on several injured Broncos players

Broncos OT Calvin Anderson is “going to miss some time,” but Denver received mostly good news elsewhere on the injury front.

Denver Broncos backup offensive tackle Calvin Anderson is “going to miss some time” after suffering a knee injury in Week 12, coach Vic Fangio announced Monday.

“I don’t know yet whether it would require a visit to the IR or not, but we’ll probably know in the next day or two,” Fangio said.

Anderson started Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers in the place of Garett Bolles, who was on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Bolles and right tackle Bobby Massie (ankle) could both return to action in Week 13.

“I think both of them have a chance to play this week,” Fangio said. “Garett hasn’t cleared all the protocols yet. Bobby made some improvement last week. Not enough to play last week, but we have some hope for him.”

Cam Fleming started in the place of Massie against the Chargers.

Elsewhere on the offensive line, guard Dalton Risner left Sunday’s game with a back injury, but it is not believed to be serious.

“I think he’ll be okay moving forward,” Fangio said. “He’s got a back issue that he’s dealing with. We think it’ll get better, and I think optimistically that he’ll be able to play.”

Meanwhile, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is fine after suffering a shin injury against Los Angeles. Fangio also believes safety Kareem Jackson (neck) has a good chance to return to the field against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13 after sitting out last week.

Overall, the Broncos received mostly good news on the injury front.

Broncos inactives: View which players won’t play vs. Chargers

The Broncos will be without both of their starting offensive tackles, their best defensive lineman and their Pro Bowl-vote leading safety today.

The Denver Broncos will be missing several key players when they host the Los Angeles at home in Week 12 of the 2021 NFL season.

Broncos safety Kareem Jackson (neck), right tackle Bobby Massie (ankle), defensive lineman Shelby Harris (ankle), wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland (hamstring), safety Jamar Johnson and quarterback Brett Rypien are inactive for Sunday’s game, the team announced.

Denver’s left tackle, Garett Bolles, is not on the inactive list because he does not count toward the 53-man roster while on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, but Bolles won’t play against the Chargers, either.

So the Broncos will be without both of their starting offensive tackles, their best defensive lineman and their strong safety.

Calvin Anderson is expected to start in the place of Bolles and Cam Fleming will likely start in the place of Massie. Caden Sterns is the most likely candidate to start in the place of Jackson and Shamar Stephen is expected to start in the place of Harris.

To add more depth at tackle, Denver elevated Quinn Bailey from the practice squad to the game day roster. Quinn will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Sunday’s game against Los Angeles will begin at 2:05 p.m. MT (TV map).

Broncos inactives: View which players won’t play vs. Eagles

Bad news: Broncos are without both starting offensive tackles, their backup QB and their offensive coordinator against Eagles. Good news: CB Pat Surtain will play!

The Denver Broncos have announced that left tackle Garett Bolles (ankle), right tackle Bobby Massie (ankle), running back Mike Boone (ribs), defensive lineman McTevin Agim (knee), defensive back Essang Bassey, cornerback Mac MccCain and safety Jamar Johnson are inactive for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain (knee) has been cleared to play.

Denver’s backup quarterback, Drew Lock, and offensive lineman Austin Schlottmann are also unavailable this week. Lock and Schlottmann are not on the inactive list because they do not count against the active roster while on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, but they won’t play.

Brett Rypien will serve as the team’s backup QB behind Teddy Bridgewater this week. Calvin Anderson is expected to start at left tackle with Bolles sidelined and Cam Fleming will likely start at right tackle in the place of Massie.

The Broncos will also be without offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who is in COVID-19 protocol. Quarterbacks coach Mike Shula will call the team’s offensive plays against the Eagles with Shurmur unavailable.

Denver is considered a 2.5-point favorite against Philadelphia. Sunday’s game, scheduled to begin at 2:25 p.m. MT, will be broadcast regionally on select Fox channels (view the TV broadcast map here).

Broncos vs. Eagles: Final injury reports for both teams

The Broncos and Eagles have released their final injury reports for Sunday’s game.

On offense, left tackle Garett Bolles (ankle) and right tackle Bobby Massie have both been ruled out. Calvin Anderson is expected to start in the place of Bolles and Cam Fleming will likely start in the place of Massie this week.
