Robert Rochell and Bobby Brown III share updates after undergoing surgery

Robert Rochell and Bobby Brown III both underwent surgery Monday and each procedure went well, according to the rookies.

Rams rookies Robert Rochell and Bobby Brown III each suffered injuries in practice on Saturday, with Rochell hurting his wrist and Brown injuring his thumb. Both issues required surgery and on Monday, the rookies went under the knife.

After the surgeries were done, they each provided an update on Twitter. Rochell tweeted that the procedure went well, which Brown actually responded to with a praying hands emoji.

As for his own update, Brown went a different route. He posted a video of himself in the hospital saying, “I’m going to just assume the surgery went well. I was listening to Jill Scott. It felt like she was singing to me.”

Sean McVay was asked after practice if there was an update on the two rookies, but he didn’t have anything new to provide reporters.

“I’m not sure yet. That took place a little bit earlier, so I’ll get that update from Reggie after this,” he said.

On Saturday, McVay said Brown should be back within the week of having surgery because they can cast his hand, but the timetable on Rochell is much less clear.

Bobby Brown III shares hilarious tweets as he and Robert Rochell prep for surgery

Bobby Brown was in good spirits before undergoing surgery with fellow rookie Robert Rochell.

Rams rookies Bobby Brown III and Robert Rochell both went down with injuries in practice on Saturday, a disappointing blow for Los Angeles. Brown injured the UCL in his thumb and Rochell hurt his wrist trying to punch a ball out in practice, forcing both players to undergo surgery.

Well, they went under the knife on Monday but just before their procedures, Brown shared a few hilarious tweets from his hospital bed.

It all started with this first tweet to set the tone. A rookie mistake, one might say.

Then, he called out Rochell for screaming because he’s scared of needles.

And finally, Brown pulled back the curtain on his current situation in the hospital – quite literally.

Brown is going to give Sebastian Joseph-Day and Donte Deayon a run for their money as one of the funniest players on the team – and he’s only been with the Rams for about three months.

Rams rookie Bobby Brown III plans to be ‘a lifelong learner’ in the NFL

Bobby Brown III feels like he hasn’t fully made the transition to the NFL yet and will continue to learn as much as he can.

Rookies across the NFL have barely gotten their feet wet as professionals, going through OTAs and minicamp in May and June. They’ll take the next step in training camp later this month when the pads come on and the competition heats up.

Rams rookie Bobby Brown III knows he has a lot to learn in the NFL and no matter how long he stays in the league, he plans to continue learning. He said last month that he doesn’t feel like he’s made the jump to the NFL yet and has to treat this like his freshman year in college.

“Me being completely honest with myself, I feel like I haven’t really made the transition (yet), other than being drafted, of course, but I feel like I’m still learning,” Brown said, via the Rams’ official site. “Even if I was a 10-year veteran, I still would be a lifelong learner. So I don’t think I’ve completely made the transition yet. But also, I would say it just showed me that I’m not a premier defensive lineman no more – I have to learn all over again. And I have to be just as humble as I was pretty much like my freshman year.”

Brown could play a key role as a backup to Aaron Donald, Sebastian Joseph-Day and A’Shawn Robinson, having the ability to play anywhere up front. That versatility will be valuable and after seeing what he did at Texas A&M last year, he’s only getting better as he develops.

He has the length, explosiveness and power to succeed in the pros, it’s just a matter of stepping up when his number is called and beating his blocker.

Watch: Rams rookie Bobby Brown III was so happy to meet Aaron Donald

Bobby Brown III finally met Aaron Donald for the first time and he couldn’t be happier.

After Bobby Brown III was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round, he was asked about Aaron Donald, his new teammate. He could barely contain himself, saying “it feels like an out-of-body experience.”

He couldn’t be more excited to learn from Donald in L.A. and will do whatever it takes, even if it’s just getting him some water every game on the sideline.

“He’s been one of my favorite players for a minute, so when I watch the Rams, that’s one of the only people I really watch,” Brown said.

When the Rams took the field for their first session of OTAs on Monday, Brown finally met his idol. The Rams captured the moment on video and shared it on Twitter, which elicited a hilarious response from the rookie.

As just about every defensive lineman does, Brown plans to watch what Donald does and learn anything he can from the perennial Pro Bowler. Donald is a rare player with elite physical ability, but Brown will take anything he can learn from him and use it to improve – even if it’s just writing on a paper.

“He has a completely different body type and playstyle than I do, but I will definitely take any advice he gives me, any of it, I don’t care what it is,” he said. “He could tell me how to write on a piece of paper and I’m going to take it.”

Expect to see No. 95 next to 99 a lot this summer.

Watch: Rams scouts share what stood out about DL Bobby Brown III

Bobby Brown III has the versatility to play anywhere on the Rams’ defensive line.

Replacing Michael Brockers and Morgan Fox could be a challenge for the Los Angeles Rams, but they took steps toward filling that void at defensive end in the draft. They selected Texas A&M defensive lineman Bobby Brown III in the fourth round, bringing aboard a big-bodied defender capable of playing any position up front.

Brown is coming off his best season in 2020, recording 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for a loss as the leader of Texas A&M’s defensive line. He displays good quickness and movement skills for a player who’s 6-foot-4 and 321 pounds, possessing good length and power at the point of attack.

The Rams posted Episode 4 of “Inside the Draft” and Brown was the focus. Senior personnel executive Brian Xanders shared some of what stood out to him about Brown, highlighting his size and impact.

“I was doing some defensive linemen and what was fun about his eval was I got to watch his entire career in one day. Had fun watching it, but what stood out to me was how big he was at 6-4, 325,” he said. “What stood out was really the very good play strength. The other thing was his physical toughness. He hit people, running through people.”

Steve Kazor, the Rams’ Southwest area scout, also described what makes Brown such a fun study, pointing out his versatility as both a run defender and pass rusher.

“If you look at his body, this kid is a man,” Kazor said. “When you look at his lower body, you can see the thickness in his posterior and thickness in his thighs. He can play whatever you want him to play. He can stuff the double-teams in the run, he can shed, he can make tackles. He’ll help us in the pass rush. He had 5.5 sacks, 7.5 TFLs and 11 QB hits and hurries, so you can see the versatility there just from those statistics.”

5 things to know about new Rams DT Bobby Brown III

Bobby Brown went to Texas A&M, but only after flipping from Alabama to the Aggies on signing day.

The Los Angeles Rams welcomed another defensive lineman to the mix on Saturday, using their first pick of Day 3 on Texas A&M defensive tackle Bobby Brown III. Depth was needed up front after letting Morgan Fox and Michael Brockers go, and Brown gives the Rams exactly that.

A one-year starter at Texas A&M, Brown is still developing as a player and he hasn’t come close to scratching his ceiling yet. Here are five things to know about the Rams’ new defensive lineman.

Twitter reacts to Rams drafting Bobby Brown III in Round 4

The Rams got themselves a big and quick defensive lineman in Bobby Brown III.

The Rams didn’t re-sign Morgan Fox and they traded Michael Brockers to the Lions, opening a hole along the defensive line at the end position. They filled it on Saturday afternoon in the fourth round, selecting Bobby Brown III from Texas A&M.

Brown will compete for reps at defensive end and possibly even nose tackle as a rookie, joining the likes of Sebastian Joseph-Day and A’Shawn Robinson in that rotation. Brown isn’t a recognizable name to some Rams fans, but Twitter seemed mostly excited about the selection by Los Angeles at pick 117.

Chargers get best player available, fill holes in Chad Reuter’s latest 4-round mock draft

The Los Angeles Chargers take the best player available in Round 1. Then what?

The Chargers have some leeway heading into the NFL draft after addressing a few positional needs in free agency, but there are still some spots that need to be filled next month.

In NFL Media’s Chad Reuter’s latest four-round mock draft, he sees Los Angeles going the route of best player available in the first-round and solidifying their positions of need after.

In Round 1, L.A. takes former Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

The selection of Smith would certainly be a luxury pick, given the fact that wide receiver isn’t as pressing of a need compared to the left tackle and cornerback positions. However, the thought of giving quarterback Justin Herbert a premiere play-maker might be too enticing to pass up on.

In Round 2, the Bolts take former Georgia cornerback Tyson Campbell.

Even after re-signing Michael Davis, the team needs an outside corner opposite of him. Campbell, the 6-foot-2 and 185 pounder, is a physically gifted and reactive athlete with great length who possesses speed, excellent closing speed and instincts.

With their first selection in Round 3, the Chargers take former BYU offensive tackle Brady Christensen.

Christensen, Pro Football Focus’ top-ranked left tackle from 2020, has the pass blocking chops, run blocking prowess, athleticism and experience, which are all traits you want in a franchise player at the position.

With their second selection in Round 3, Los Angeles takes former Duke outside linebacker Chris Rumph II – finding a compliment to Uchenna Nwosu.

While he is undersized to NFL standards, Rumph is a naturally gifted pass rusher, with an excellent first step and great ability to get up the arc and out-leverage tackles, while also showing recognition skills against the run.

In Round 4, L.A. selects former Texas A&M defensive tackle Bobby Brown – adding more beef up front in the trenches.

Linval Joseph had a great season in 2020, but the Chargers could afford to add more pieces at the nose tackle position. Brown has quick hands and plenty of explosiveness and athleticism to make an impact as a key rotational interior pass rusher at the next level.

Amir Johnson among veterans added to NBA G League Ignite roster

The NBA G League on Thursday announced the additions of five veteran players that will help mentor prospects on the Ignite team.

[jwplayer yNVMJ9Mk]

The NBA G League on Thursday announced the additions of veteran players Amir Johnson, Bobby Brown, Reggie Hearn, Brandon Ashley and Cody Demps to the Ignite roster.

The five veterans bring years of valuable playing experience, both in the NBA and other professional leagues around the world, that will aid in the development of the six elite prospects highlighting the inaugural G League Ignite roster.

Johnson brings the most experience to the Ignite after 14 years in the NBA across four stops. He did not play in the NBA last season and last played with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2018-19 season, averaging 3.9 points in 51 games played.

The addition of Hearn was previously reported last month as he was the first veteran to agree to join the Ignite. Hearn, who went undrafted out of Northwestern in 2013, averaged 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 44 games played last season with the South Bay Lakers.

The NBA G League Ignite, which was informally dubbed the Select Team, features several top high school prospects such as Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, Jonathan Kuminga and several others. The team is coached by Brian Shaw and has been training in Walnut Creek, California.

In addition to Green, Todd and Kuminga, prospects Daishen Nix, Kai Sotto and Princepal Singh, a 6-foot-10 forward from India, also joined the program, which was launched in April to serve as an alternative path for elite prospects wanting to play professionally.

Ignite, which is unaffiliated with any existing NBA G League franchise or NBA team, will participate in exhibition games against other NBA G League teams and international clubs and will play 10-12 games that won’t count against the standings.

The prospects on Ignite will be draft-eligible in the 2021 NBA draft.
