3 keys to Auburn beating Mississippi State

Here are three things Auburn will need to do to beat Mississippi State Saturday night.

Auburn has made it to the end of the season and there are once again questions about the security of Gus Malzahn’s job.

The Tigers are coming off back-to-back disappointing losses and a strong performance against an unranked Mississippi State could be used to help quiet those conversations.

For that to happen, Auburn will need to play well against a State team that has showed some progress since a rough start to the season outside of the opener against LSU. The Bulldogs turned to freshman quarterback Will Rogers who has helped stabilize the offense.

Here are three things Auburn will need to do well to improve to 6-4 on the season.

3 keys to Auburn’s 31-20 loss to Texas A&M

Auburn had its chance but couldn’t pull out any of the big plays to stop Texas A&M in the Tigers 31-20 loss on Saturday.

Auburn had one final chance to play spoiler in the 2020 season and came up short.

Texas A&M came in with hopes to make the College Football Playoff and Auburn had a chance to try and go into the last game of the season with some momentum by upsetting the No. 5 team in the country.

Instead Auburn’s defense had one of their worst performances of the last several seasons as Auburn fell to Texas A&M 31-20.

Here were the keys to the Auburn loss.

Whole lotta anger: Reactions to Auburn’s loss against Texas A&M

Fans on Twitter wasn’t happy with Auburn’s loss to Texas A&M on Saturday and let everyone know about it.

Auburn had more than enough opportunities to take down No. 5 Texas A&M, and they squandered all of them.

Bo Nix overthrew Eli Stove in the first half and the Tigers then settled for a field goal. Auburn had three timeouts and the ball left with 24 seconds to go in the second quarter and instead opted to go to the locker room. Texas A&M had a very questionable third-down conversion in the third quarter and instead of calling a timeout and challenging the play, Auburn let play continue and gave up the game-clinching touchdown.

The Tigers’ defense also allowed Texas A&M to convert 70% of third downs.

It was inexplicable, frustrating, and pitiful to witness. Twitter also would like a few words here.

In summary, everyone is angry and I can’t blame them either.

Watch: Auburn’s Bo Nix with astonishing scramble for touchdown

Bo Nix was trapped multiple times and somehow found his way into the end zone for an Auburn TD

Auburn’s Bo Nix took a page out of Fran Tarkenton’s book on Saturday against Texas A&M.

The Tigers’ quarterback was a scrambling, rambling man as he defied the Aggies’ pursuit and somehow made his way to the end zone after seemingly being trapped multiple times.

It goes down as a 5-yard run but it felt more like 50 as Nix gave Auburn a 10-7 lead in the second quarter after the PAT

Any play this good is worth watching from another angle.

Bo Nix pulled off this ridiculous touchdown run and college football fans couldn’t believe it

Wow. This really happened.

There have been some pretty ridiculous touchdowns scored this college football season, but it’s hard to think of one that tops what Bo Nix just did for Auburn.

This play looked absolutely dead. It looked like he was going to get sacked and Auburn was going to have a long third-and-goal ahead of them. NOPE. None of the above.

Instead, Bo Nix just made the most Bo Nix play ever.

He, somehow, escapes the sack after it looked like he was guaranteed to go down. He turns up field, finds a few blockers and somehow makes his way into the endzone.

This is unbelievable, yo.

Somebody has to explain this because I have no idea how this happened. This play had everyone questioning everything, but also simultaneously realizing of course it makes no sense because it’s Bo Nix. And, again, this is the most Bo Nix play ever.

Yup. Sounds about right.

WATCH: Bo Nix magically escapes a sack and rushes for a touchdown

Auburn quarterback Bo Nix pulled a Cam Newton on this touchdown, escaping a certain sack and then rushing for the score.

This was one special play by Bo Nix.

The Auburn quarterback was seemingly going to be sacked by half of the Texas A&M defense but somehow escaped, found his footing and then rushed for a touchdown to put Auburn up 10-7.

Alabama throws shade at Bo Nix over Mac Jones’ game manager comments

Auburn quarterback Bo Nix created quite the uproar last week when he referred to Alabama quarterback Mac Jones as a game manager ahead

Auburn quarterback Bo Nix created quite the uproar last week when he referred to Alabama quarterback Mac Jones as a game manager ahead of the Iron Bowl.

Nix’s comments were likely not meant to disrespect Jones and the incredible season he is having, but Alabama players didn’t appreciate them nonetheless.

In No. 1 Alabama’s dominating 42-13 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, Jones was flawless, completing 18 of 26 passes for 302 yards and five touchdowns.

His play was a major reason why the Crimson Tide handled the Tigers with such ease.

Meanwhile, Nix completed 23 of 38 passes for 227 yards and two interceptions.

Jones left no doubt who the better quarterback was in the Iron Bowl.

On Monday, Alabama football’s official Twitter account joined in on the fun and sent some shade Nix’s way.

Game, set, match.

It was a fun response by the Crimson Tide that will likely put that silly notion to rest.

Twitter reacts to Auburn getting embarrassed in Iron Bowl

Auburn got embarrassed by Alabama in the 2020 Iron Bowl and Twitter was not happy.

Behold, Twitter reacts to Auburn’s most pathetic showing all year against Alabama. If you are an Auburn fan who stuck it out by watching the whole game then kudos to you. This one got real ugly real fast when Auburn failed to do anything but kick field goals in the first half.

In summary, blown coverage + a mediocre offensive line = a 42-13 loss to Alabama.

I mean seriously, that was horrifying. The Tigers are going to need to make adjustments if they don’t want to lose by 30+ to Texas A&M next weekend.

WATCH: Najee Harris turns on the jets for 39-yard TD

Najee Harris scores a nation-leading 17th rushing touchdown to build on Alabama’s lead over Auburn to make the score 35-6 with time left …

Alabama continues to roll over Auburn in the 2020 Iron Bowl as Najee Harris scores on a 39-yard run to extend the Crimson Tide’s lead over the Tigers, 35-6.

The Auburn defense has not been able to stop, let alone slow down, the Alabama offense.

Whether it’s the heat of the rivalry driving the team forward, or having offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian at the helm today with Nick Saban out, either way, this team is proving they deserve to be No. 1 in the nation.

Harris had a beautiful cut to get through Auburn’s defensive front, then there was nothing but open field between him and the end zone. This is touchdown No. 17 for Harris, who leads the nation.

With plenty of time remaining in the third quarter, who know what may happen before the end of the game.

You can watch Harris’ run below:

WATCH: Mac Jones can’t stop throwing touchdowns

Alabama extends their lead, 28-6, over Auburn in the 2020 edition of the Iron Bowl. Mac Jones and DeVonta Smith are having great games.

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is having a pretty good game in his second Iron Bowl appearance, making up for last year’s loss where he threw two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.

Today, Jones has not thrown a single interception against Auburn, but has thrown for four touchdowns. DeVonta Smith has caught half of them.

The most recent Jones-to-Smith touchdown came on a 58-yard catch and run.

Smith’s speed and elusiveness were put on full display. After making the catch on the run, Smith weaved through traffic and turned on the jets to showcase his breakaway speed.

That touchdown extends Alabama’s lead, 28-6.

Steve Sarkisian is leading the team today with Nick Saban out with COVID, and he’s not dissappointing.

You can watch the touchdown below:
