Wanogho became the 20th former Tiger to win a Super Bowl ring when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
Auburn was well represented in Super Bowl LVII, as three players graced the rosters of the Philadelphia Eagles and the victorious Kansas City Chiefs.
When the dust settled, offensive tackle [autotag]Prince Tega Wanogho[/autotag] rose victorious with the Chiefs, becoming the 20th former Tiger to earn a Super Bowl ring.
Wanogho’s win with the Chiefs marks the third straight season that a former Auburn player has been on a championship roster. [autotag]Blake Countess[/autotag] was a member of the Los Angeles Rams roster that won Super Bowl LVI while [autotag]Jamel Dean[/autotag] and [autotag]Carlton Davis[/autotag] won Super Bowl LV with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
To mark the occasion, let’s take a look at Wanogho’s career as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs:
Among those on the Chief’s roster is former Auburn offensive lineman [autotag]Prince Tega Wanogho[/autotag].
Wanogho, who played for the Tigers from 2015-2019, was drafted by Philadelphia Eagles as the 210th overall pick in the 2020 draft before signing with Kansas City prior to the 2021 season.
According to Pro Football Focus, Wanogho played in six games this season for the Chiefs, splitting time between left and right tackle. He took a total of 60 snaps, 45 of those being at right tackle and 13 at left tackle. He graded at 68.4 during the season.
Wanogho becomes the 23rd former Tiger to be a part of a Super Bowl-winning roster and the first since [autotag]Blake Countess[/autotag] in 2022 as a member of the Los Angeles Rams‘ roster in Super Bowl LVI.
Two people with Auburn ties get to celebrate as champions.
It was almost a storybook ending for former Auburn Tigers tight end C.J. Uzomah. He worked his way back from the knee injury to play in the biggest game of his life. It just wasn’t his night. In a last-ditch effort for the Bengals, Joe Burrow’s fourth-down throw fell to the turf ending their comeback hopes.
Despite being the only active former Auburn Tiger in the game, a pair of Rams with ties to The Plains did earn the win. The general manager of the Los Angeles Rams, Les Snead, is a former staffer. In the 1993-94 seasons he served as a graduate assistant for the Tigers.
Snead would join the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars in 1995 as a scout. He joined the Atlanta Falcons as a pro scout in 1997 and remained in that role until 2009. He was promoted to Director of player personnel with the Falcons. Snead would become the general manager for the Rams in 2012, where he still serves today.
Snead graduated high school at Eufaula, Alabama. After missing out on the championship in Super Bowl LIII, he finally won his ring in Super Bowl LVI.
Another former Auburn Tiger, Blake Countess also earned a Super Bowl ring with the Rams. He was signed to the practice squad on Jan. 12, 2022. It is his second stint with the Rams and this time around he got the championship ring despite not playing this time around.
Countess came to Auburn after graduating from Michigan in 2014. He played the 2015 season with the Tigers before being drafted in the sixth round of the following NFL draft. Countess would be released in September of 2016 and signed with the Rams for the first time. After losing to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, Countess gets to celebrate like a champion.
We look at which former Baltimore Ravens players are playing in Super Bowl LVI
The Baltimore Ravens finished the 2021 season with an 8-9 record and on a six-game losing streak. It wasn’t the season that they were hoping for, and because of a plethora of factors failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Super Bowl LVI will take place on February 13th, 2022 between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. While Baltimore won’t be playing on Super Bowl Sunday, some of their former players will be.
Below we take a look at players from both the Rams and the Bengals who were once Ravens.
The Ravens made three moves relating to their practice squad on Tuesday while also protecting four other players
The Baltimore Ravens have needed to find needless contributors from their practice squad over the course of the 2021 season. Injuries, COVID and even more have decimated the Baltimore roster, so they’ve needed to find other ways to put players out on the field.
On Tuesday, the Ravens made three practice squad moves in adding center James Murray to the group while releasing quarterback Kenji Bahar and defensive back Blake Countess. They also protected offensive tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith, defensive lineman Kahlil McKenzie and Isaiah Mack, as well as defensive back Robert Jackson.
Ravens practice squad moves: C James Murray was added. QB Kenji Bahar and DB Blake Countess were released. Ravens 4 protections are DB Robert Jackson, OT Jaryd Jones-Smith and DL Kahlil McKenzie and Isaiah Mack.
Murray worked out for Baltimore last week, and now finds himself in Baltimore. Bahar was signed in an emergency situation, and has been in and out of the Ravens’ organization countless times over the course of the year. Countess signed with the team a few weeks ago.
Jones-Smith would provide some offensive tackle depth for the Baltimore offense, while both McKenzie and Mack played some good snaps against the Cincinnati Bengals. Jackson has been relied upon to play a lot in a decimated secondary, so him being protected is not surprising.
The Ravens worked out three defensive backs and signed two to their practice squad
The Baltimore Ravens have seen their defensive back room be decimated by injuries well before the 2021 season began. They lost cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Khalil Dorsey for the season, and have since seen other players in their secondary go down throughout the year and miss time such as safety Deshon Elliott and cornerback Jimmy Smith.
On Wednesday, the team worked out three defensive backs in Blake Countess, Robert Jackson and Isaiah Johnson. They signed both Countess and Jackson to their practice squad, while moving kicker Jake Verity to the practice squad/injured list. They had one open spot on their practice squad before the moves.
Ravens worked out 3 DBs (Blake Countess, Robert Jackson and Isaiah Johnson) and signed Countess and Jackson to PS. They had one open spot on PS and they created another by moving K Jake Verity to the PS injured list. It's been a while since I've seen Verity on practice field
Countess has spent time with three teams ever since his NFL career started back in 2016 and has accumulated 57 total tackles, two interceptions and one sack. He was taken by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2016 draft.
Jackson went undrafted in 2018, and signed with the Indianapolis Colts. He’s appeared in 16 NFL games (all with the Cleveland Browns), and has nine total tackles in his career.
Johnson started 14 games for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, putting up 15 total tackles and four passes defended.
A former sixth-round pick of the Eagles out of Auburn in 2016, Countess appeared in two games with Philadelphia during the 2020 season, recording two tackles. Countess’s release could signal a return for Rodney McLeod.
Philadelphia now sits at 83+ on the roster, including Matt Leo.
Selected by the Eagles in the sixth round, 196th overall, in the 2016 NFL Draft, Countess is returning to Philadelphia for the fourth time since entering the league.
Countess saw action in the Eagles Week 15 and 17 games of the 2020 season.
