Ohio State baseball has found its new head coach

Welcome to Buckeye Nation Justin! #GoBucks

Although it seemed like a great idea to hire [autotag]Bill Mosiello[/autotag] away from a national power in TCU, it turned out to be the completely wrong move for the Ohio State baseball program.

Distance from his family along with so-so results pushed him to resign and return back to a familiar place with the Horned Frogs after just two above-average seasons with the Buckeyes. The program went just 60-51 overall.

The search for the Buckeyes new leader didn’t take long, as on Friday it was announced that Ohio native, [autotag]Justin Haire[/autotag], would be taking over the position. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, he played collegiately for Bowling Green and Indianapolis before starting his coaching career with Sterling.

Haire moved quickly up the ranks, earning his first head coaching opportunity just four years later in 20215 with Campbell. It was a huge success, and he was named the Big South Coach of the Year four times, the last three seasons in-a-row.

With the exception of the COVID-19 season, Haire led his team to the NCAA Tournament every season since 2018. During his tenure with Camels, he won 317 games to 212 losses. If he is able to replicate those results in Columbus, this will be a great hire from new athletic director Ross Bjork.

Ohio State baseball head coach Bill Mosiello resigns, to return to former home

The Bucks will have a new leader for their baseball program next spring

It was a trying season for Ohio State baseball, even though it made the Big Ten Tournament.

The Buckeyes completed their season with a 29-26 record, 12-12 in conference play. Head coach [autotag]Bill Mosiello[/autotag] who was hired just two years ago, guided Ohio State to a 60-51 record, each campaign just a few games over .500.

Mosiello came from Texas Christian, and helped the Horned Frogs to four College World Series berths as an assistant. Clearly, that success didn’t follow him to Columbus, and on Friday he resigned from his position and will return to TCU once again. It was reported by Kendall Rodgers of D1 Baseball that the move was being made.

It looks like family played a big part in his decision, as they never fully made the move to Columbus. We wish him the best as he returns to TCU and hopefully new Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork finds a great replacement for him.

Ohio State baseball is streaking, defeating Dayton to win seventh game in a row

WWWWWWW #GoBucks

The[autotag]Ohio State baseball[/autotag] team is really starting to hit their stride. Since losing to California on March 4, the Buckeyes have reeled off wins over Oklahoma, three over Cal State Bakersfield, Marshall and two against Dayton.

The win today over the Flyers, 12-8, the seventh in a row, puts the Buckeyes’ season record at 11-6 in [autotag]Bill Mosiello[/autotag]’s first season as the head coach.

Although OSU has yet to play a conference game, it’ll have two more games on the state until Ohio State faces Indiana next weekend. So far, the Buckeyes have shown they can win a game in multiple ways.

Today it was the bats, as they needed every one of those twelve runs, to get the victory. Outfielder [autotag]Trey Lipsey[/autotag] led the charge, going 3-of-5 with 6 RBI and three runs scored. The biggest hit was this blast with the game still tight in the bottom of the seventh.

Before the Buckeyes travel to take on the Hoosiers, they will host Wright State on Tuesday evening and Toledo on Wednesday night.

Ohio State currently has the longest winning streak in the conference and is in the upper half of the standings before the conference portion of the schedule commences.

Ohio State baseball wins the series finale 10-5 over UConn

The baseball Buckeyes even up their record

The[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] baseball team got a win early this afternoon over UConn, 10-5, to even their early season record at 2-2.

The Buckeyes got off to a shaky start. Starter [autotag]Gavin Bruni[/autotag] gave up two earned runs in the top of the first, three total. He would last just 3.1 innings but the OSU bats got going before Bruni left.

Four singles in the bottom of the third put Ohio State up 3-2, but Bruni’s unearned run would tie the game back up.

The Buckeye bats once again got going, this time in the bottom of the fifth, with the big hit being a double by [autotag]Matthew Graveline[/autotag], scoring two. OSU would put up a five-spot and add two more in the 8th to get to their final tally of 10.

It can be said that the opening series was a success, given the level of the opponent and the fact that they were able to check off multiple boxes over the course of the weekend.

First, head coach [autotag]Bill Mosiello[/autotag] got his first win, along with the team’s first of the season. Second, they got their first road trip out of the way.

The Buckeyes are back on the road Thursday evening, as they travel to Phoenix, Arizona, for two games each against Grand Canyon University and Gonzaga, alternating opponents each day.

Ohio State Baseball gets a commit from instate hard-throwing pitcher

The baseball Buckeyes get a verbal from instate high-level pitcher #GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State Baseball[/autotag] team has found a potential ace and they didn’t need to look far. [autotag]North Royalton[/autotag] pitcher [autotag]Jake Michalak[/autotag] committed to first-year head coach [autotag]Bill Mosiello[/autotag] today.

Michalak has a fastball that sits in the lower 90’s, with a good slider as well. He has a projectable frame, standing 6 feet, 3 inches, and 200 pounds. Michalak should add on a few more MPH to his fastball over the course of his Buckeye career which should make him that much better.

The 2023 recruiting class now has 13 commits, with seven of them being pitchers. It seems like Mosiello is making a concerted effort to strengthen the Ohio State presence on the bump.

The Buckeyes are a little over a month away from their opening series with Connecticut in Florida. Like many Midwestern baseball teams, all of their early games will be played in warm-weather states, until they begin their first home series in the middle of March.

Ohio State names new baseball head coach

The Ohio State athletic department named former TCU associate head coach Bill Mosiello as its new baseball head coach on Thursday.

The search for a new head baseball coach at Ohio State is over. On Thursday, the athletic department announced the hiring of Bill Mosiello as the person to lead the Buckeye baseball program into the future.

Mosiello comes with a highly regarded pedigree. He has an extensive career managing and coaching at the collegiate and minor league levels. His most recent stop was as a nine-year stint as associate head coach at TCU. During his time on staff, the Horned Frogs appeared in the College World Series for four consecutive years (2014-2017), and seven NCAA tournaments.

While a big part of the program, TCU led the Big 12 conference twice in batting average, averaged a whopping 56 home runs over the last five full seasons, and ranked second among Power Five schools with more than 800 stolen bases from 2014-to 2022.

“I am incredibly excited to lead the Ohio State baseball program,” said Mosiello in a statement. “I have been blessed to have had a lot of great experiences throughout my career, and the opportunity to come to such a prestigious school like Ohio State and work with tremendous student-athletes and staff is something I am truly excited about. I want to thank Shaun Richard and Gene Smith for putting their trust in me. That all being said, a part of my heart will always be in TCU. The last nine years were truly special and the relationships that I made with the players and staff will be part of my life forever.”

The Ohio State brass released statements that showed the excitement of the hiring.

“Bill Mosiello is a Buckeye, and we could not be more excited about that,” said executive associate athletic director Shaun Richard. “During this search, I spoke to countless people about the right person to lead this program, and the conversation kept coming back to Bill. His passion for student-athletes, his knowledge and experience of the game, and his proven track record of success at all levels makes me extremely excited for the future of Buckeye baseball.”

“Bill is a great leader and one of the most respected coaches in collegiate baseball,” said senior vice president & Wolfe Foundation endowed athletic director Gene Smith. “He’s passionate about the game and his players, and I look forward to him bringing his energy to Ohio State.”

Ohio State has had a very inconsistent run under former head coach Greg Beals, hopefully, this hire will help stabilize and cement the program into a new era that involves contending for Big Ten titles more consistently while being a player on the national scale.
