Report: Big 12 to negotiate TV deals with FOX and ESPN

A new TV deal for the Big 12 could make things easier for Texas and Oklahoma to move to the SEC before the initial 2025 window.

The Big 12 Conference is beginning to look ahead at its future television deals. The Big 12’s current TV deal goes through the 2024-25 season but new information might lead to that process accelerating.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports the Big 12 is expected to negotiate with both FOX and ESPN about the conference’s next deal.

New Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark is optimistic about the direction these talks will take the league going forward.

“It is an exciting time for college athletics and given the changing landscape we welcome the opportunity to engage with our partners to determine if an early extension is in the best interest of all parties. The Big 12 has enjoyed a fantastic relationship with its multi-media rights holders, and I look forward to having these conversations.”

Bob Bowlsby to step down as Big 12 commissioner later this year

The Big 12 will be looking for new leadership.

In a surprise update for the Big 12 conference on Tuesday, Bob Bowlsby announced he will be stepping down from his role as commissioner later this year. Bowlsby will continue his role for the time being while the conference searches for potential replacements.

After more than 40 years of serving in leadership roles in intercollegiate athletics, including the last 10 with the Big 12, and given the major issues that college sports in general and the Big 12 specifically will address in the next several years, I have reached a natural transition point in my tenure as Commissioner, as well as in my career.

Bowlsby has overseen Big 12 conference operations since 2012 and played a major role in the conference’s success across all sports, improving media deals and orchestrating the new additions of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF.

Texas Football: Longhorns heavy favorites according to BetMGM odds

The early lines are out for the Texas Longhorns season opener on Sept. 12, with the line set at 42 in favor of the home team from BetMGM.

This past weekend the Texas Longhorns opening opponent took the field in their opener. The UTEP Miners defeated the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks 24-14. Early on in that game the Lumberjacks had the lead but couldn’t hold onto it as the Miners rallied from a 14-3 deficit to score 21 unanswered. If the Miners fall down early to the Longhorns this coming Saturday, it might be all she wrote.

The Longhorns football team has a lot more firepower than SFA. Given with how UTEP struggled in space, Jake Smith and Jordan Whittington could have big games in Austin. Provided the Longhorns get off to a fast start, they could see plenty of runs as the game wears on. Look for Bijan Robinson to get plenty of looks.

With the Longhorns favored by six touchdowns, expect the line to move some in favor of UTEP. One shouldn’t expect it to dip any lower than (-37) by the time the game kicks off on Saturday night.
