Browns release DT Ben Stille after signing three, drafting one

The Browns have moved on from a defensive tackle after adding four thus far this offseason

The Cleveland Browns have made a concerted effort to bulk up the interior of their defensive line after fielding a putrid run defense a year ago. Adding four names to the roster at the position, including free agent Dalvin Tomlinson and third round pick Siaki Ika, one name has become the odd man out as the Browns have released one defensive tackle in the form of Ben Stille.

Stille was added off of the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad midseason as the Browns looked for answers up front. He appeared in six games for the Browns a year ago on a rotational basis.

Browns announce the re-signing of three depth players

The Browns have brought back three more of their own

The Cleveland Browns have added high-quality starters like defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and safety Juan Thornhill this offseason. However, they have also added competitive depth pieces, including some of their own. And now, they have announced the re-signing of three more depth pieces as NFL free agency continues along closer to the 2023 NFL draft.

Bringing back three players who have all seen significant time on the field for the team, the Browns are looking to breed competition in training camp. None of the three retained will be guaranteed a roster spot but will compete for a spot on the final 53-man roster. Who were those three players?

Browns place exclusive rights tender on two depth pieces

Two players will return in 2023.

With a little over a week to go before free agency officially begins the Cleveland Browns have tendered two exclusive rights free agents. Both cornerback Thomas Graham and defensive tackle Ben Stille will be back in camp with the team this summer.

Thomas Graham played in a total of 37 snaps defensively with five tackles and a PFF coverage grade of 71.3. Ben Stille played a total of 84 snaps registering four quarterback pressures and receiving an overall grade of 62 from PFF.

Both players will have a shot at making the roster but likely are just camp bodies that showed some potential last year. We will see if they ultimately make the team or not.

Browns sign DT Ben Stille off Dolphins practice squad

The Browns have signed defensive tackle Ben Stille off of the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad

As the Cleveland Browns continue to field the worst run defense in the NFL, they have made a change to their defensive tackle room. After a meltdown against the Miami Dolphins, the Browns have signed defensive tackle Ben Stille off of the Dolphins’ practice squad. This came after waiving defensive tackle Roderick Perry II yesterday.

Measuring in at 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, Still ran a blazing 4.98 40-yard dash at that size. He tested with elite explosives as well, hitting 32 inches on his vertical jump and 9-foot-8 in his broad jump. Not a stiff athlete either, Stille ran a short shuttle in the 98th percentile historically and the 84th percentile in his three-cone. Stille went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Browns sign DT Ben Stille off of Dolphins practice squad

Miami loses an undrafted rookie.

Just days after the Miami Dolphins defeated the Cleveland Browns in a Week 10 matchup, the Browns exacted their revenge by snagging a player off of Miami’s practice squad.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cleveland has signed defensive lineman Ben Stille to their active roster.

Stille joined the Dolphins as an undrafted rookie this offseason and made an impact in the preseason, battling with Benito Jones for a practice squad spot when the regular season came around.

With Miami losing Emmanuel Ogbah this past week, Stille could’ve been a candidate to fill the roster spot, but now, the Dolphins will need to fill a spot on the practice squad and on their 53.
