Taylor Swift’s Seattle show generated more seismic activity than Marshawn Lynch’s Beast Quake

Taylor Swift’s Seattle shows have officially topped the Beast Quake for seismic activity at Lumen Field.

Taylor Swift has overtaken a Seattle record at Lumen Field from Seahawks great Marshawn Lynch.

Indeed, CNN reported on Friday that Swift’s two shows in Seattle broke the seismic activity record originally set by Lynch’s famous “Beast Quake” run in the 2011 NFL playoffs against the New Orleans Saints.

After two nights of earth-shaking dancing at Swift’s Seattle “Eras” tour concert at Lumen Field, enthusiastic Swifties caused seismic activity equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, according to seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach.

The “Swift Quake” has been compared to the 2011 “Beast Quake,” when Seattle Seahawks fans erupted after an impressive touchdown by running back Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch. The ensuing celebration was detected on the same local seismometer as the Swift concert, Caplan-Auerbach told CNN.

Caplan-Auerbach explained the mathematical difference that gave Swift’s shows the edge over the historic Seahawks moment.

While the magnitude difference between “Beast Quake”
and “Swift Quake” is only 0.3, Caplan-Auerbach said the Swifties have the Seahawks fans beat. “The shaking was twice as strong as ‘Beast Quake.’ It absolutely doubled it.”

While Seahawks fans might be a bit bummed that Lynch’s run for the ages is now topped in seismic activity, they can rest assured that calling their fantasy football teams “Swift Quake” will be a very fair consolation prize.

Former Seahawks OL Tyler Polumbus shares an amazing Marshawn Lynch story

Following his 67-yard Beast Quake run against the Saints in the playoffs, Lynch went out of his way to thank his offensive linemen.

The Seahawks have had better players come through, but there may be no bigger fan favorite than Marshawn Lynch. Lynch’s exploits on and off the field are the stuff of legend, from buying Fireball shots for an entire bar to his part in the most famous play in team history.

Following his 67-yard Beast Quake run against the Saints in the playoffs, Lynch went out of his way to thank his offensive linemen. According to former Seattle guard Tyler Polumbus, Lynch walked into their meeting room and dropped a giant wad of cash on the table and then walked out.

As for what they did with the money, Polumbus says they went to Vegas.

Magnificent.

Flashback Friday: A look back at the Seahawks ‘Beast Quake’ game

Happy Birthday to one of the most iconic memories in Seattle Seahawks’ history – Marshawn Lynch’s “Beast Quake” run against the Saints.

This weekend officially kicks off Wild Card Weekend for the NFL Playoffs. As the name certainly suggests, this is a weekend known for some of the most memorable games and wild moments for the postseason.

It seems just about every team in the NFL has at least one iconic moment stemming from this weekend, and the Seattle Seahawks are no different. Arguably one of the single greatest plays in Seattle sports history happened on this weekend.

In fact, it happened exactly one decade ago to the day.

I’m talking about Marshawn Lynch’s legendary “Beast Quake” run which shook the Pacific Northwest, and the entire NFL landscape on January 8th, 2011.

In a season where the 7-9 Washington Football Team is currently in the postseason, it seems fitting we remember the first sub-.500 team to make the playoffs.

The 2010 Seahawks became the first team to qualify for the playoffs with a losing record. Similarly to Washington, the Seahawks had to win a “Sunday Night Football” game to determine the division winner. Ironically, the Seahawks had to beat the Rams, who are their wild-card opponent this weekend.

The Seahawks were set to host the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the New Orleans Saints at 11-5. The Saints quickly built a 17-7 first-half lead, but Seattle fought back and went into halftime up 24-20, eventually going up 31-20. New Orleans started to make a comeback of its own until Marshawn Lynch had something to say about it.

Nursing a 34-30 lead with less than four minutes to play, on a 2nd-and-10 call, Lynch bulldozed his way through the entire Saints defense to essentially seal the eventual 41-36 monumental upset for the Seahawks.

Lynch’s run hyped the 12th Man up so much their cheers actually registered on a local Seattle seismograph as a small tremor.

The earth-moving “Beast Quake” helped kickstart the most successful decade of Seahawks football in franchise history. Lynch went on to establish himself as one of the NFL’s premier backs, and Seattle became a perennial Super Bowl contender.

Speaking of the Super Bowl, the Seahawks will look to make yet another run starting on Saturday as they host the Los Angeles Rams on Wild Card Weekend.

The 10-year anniversary of Marshawn Lynch unleashing the ‘Beast Quake’

Marshawn Lynch and Beast Quake happened 10 years ago on Jan. 8, 2011

The Seattle Seahawks were 7-9 and in the playoffs following the 2010 regular season as NFC West champs. You know, like the Washington Football Team this season as rulers of the NFC East.

The New Orleans Saints visited Seattle on Jan. 8, 2011, and they probably still don’t know what hit them.

Marshawn Lynch went “Beast Quake” on the Saints as Seattle stunned New Orleans and the football universe.

The 67-yard run is one of the most memorable in playoff history — of any round — and Seattle went on to a 41-36 victory.

With their base offense on the field, the Seahawks called “17 Power,” a power run, for the first time in the game. Seattle lined up in an I formation with tight end Carlson on the left and fullback Michael Robinson offset to the left.

Lynch rushed between right guard Mike Gibson and Robinson, finding an unblocked Scott Shanle at the line of scrimmage. If Shanle had completed the tackle here, he would have limited Lynch to a 2-yard gain.

Instead, Lynch bounced away from Shanle’s tackle, while also running through the grasp of Sedrick Ellis and Will Smith. As Lynch broke through the line, Ayodele and Saints safety Darren Sharper simultaneously dove to pull Lynch down as he ran past them but were unsuccessful. Jabari Greer then caught up with Lynch from behind and tried to wrap him up but could not hang on.

Lynch then angled toward the right sideline, pursued by Tracy Porter, who was shoved to the ground with a stiff arm. Alex Brown lunged for Lynch’s heels but fell short. Finally, Roman Harper, being blocked by Tyler Polumbus, attempted one last diving tackle inside the 5-yard line, but he too was unsuccessful. Already celebrating, Lynch leaped backward into the end zone, with his right arm holding the ball aloft and his left hand grabbing his crotch, for the touchdown.

Overall,  Lynch rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown for Seattle, who had not had a 100-yard rusher in any of their regular-season games.

Twitter reacts to Marshawn Lynch re-signing with the Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks brought back franchise icon Marshawn Lynch on Monday night, and Twitter exploded.

The Seattle Seahawks gave fans an early Christmas present on Monday, signing franchise icon Marshawn Lynch out of retirement.

He will join his former teammate, Robert Turbin, in Seattle’s new (old?) backfield ahead of their crucial Week 17 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

Beast Mode’s return caused quite the stir on social media. Lynch was an icon in Seattle, where he played from 2010-2015. His ‘beastquake’ run in the playoffs against New Orleans is perhaps the most iconic play in franchise history, and his goofy personality, love of skittles, and relationship with the media made him an international superstar.

Reaction on Twitter after Lynch’s signing was immediate, which is understandable after the reunion was teased nearly 12 hours earlier by Pete Carroll on 710 ESPN’s Monday morning radio show.

Fans, celebrities, athletes, and former Seahawks all jumped on social media to give their take on Lynch’s return to the Emerald City.

The Seahawks will take on the 49ers on Sunday night in what will be perhaps the most anticipated regular season game of the entire NFL season.

Kickoff is slated for 5:20 p.m. PT.
