Twitter reacts to the Bears’ selection of DT Gervon Dexter Sr.

The Bears went defensive line with the No. 53 pick, selecting Gervon Dexter Sr. out of Florida. Here is how Twitter reacted to the news.

The Chicago Bears fortified the offensive line with their first pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. Now they did the same on the defensive line with their second pick. The Bears selected defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. out of Florida with the No. 53 overall pick.

Dexter has the ideal size and talent for a defensive tackle, standing at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, but needs work on his technique coming off the line. He’ll have his opportunity to get meaningful reps on a defensive line that has Justin Jones and Andrew Billings as the top options but could use some refining before that happens.

Regardless, the Bears needed help on the interior of the defensive line and got it with Dexter. Here is how Twitter is reacted to the selection.

Twitter reacts to the Bears’ selection of Darnell Wright with No. 10 pick

Bears Twitter seems happy with the team’s selection of Darnell Wright at 10th overall in the NFL Draft.

The newest member of the Chicago Bears is finally here. The Bears made another trade down in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, moving from No. 9 to No. 10 to select Tennessee tackle Darnell Wright.

Wright was a stout protector for the Volunteers, anchoring the right side of the offensive line last season. Now he’s tasked with keeping Bears quarterback upright for the foreseeable future.

The Bears took Wright at No. 10 overall, moving back one spot with the Philadelphia Eagles while also gaining a 2024 fourth-round pick. The Eagles wanted to move up for Jalen Carter, who was there for the taking, and the Bears didn’t feel comfortable making the selection. Instead, they focused in on the offensive side of the ball.

Right tackle was a glaring hole for the Bears last season and this is the first major move of general manager Ryan Poles’ tenure to upgrade the position group. Most Bears fans (and players) are ecstatic for the pick, but some wonder if they missed out on a generational talent like Carter. Here is how Twitter reacted to the selection.

Bears Twitter celebrates the Aaron Rodgers trade to the Jets

Aaron Rodgers is finally out of the NFC North and Bears fans are happy to see him go.

For fans of the Chicago Bears, their long national nightmare is over. After weeks of trade speculation, the Green Bay Packers have agreed to move quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets with numerous picks being exchanged, according to multiple reports. The Jets will receive Rodgers, the 2023 No. 15 overall pick, and a 2023 fifth-round pick.

The Packers, meanwhile, will get back the 2023 No. 13 overall pick, a 2023 second and sixth-round pick, and a conditional 2024 second-round pick if Rodgers plays at least 65 percent of the snaps this season. Rodgers will also sign a revised contract to help alleviate Green Bay’s cap situation.

The two sides had been talking for well over a month about a deal that seemed destined to happen at some point and now it has, with fourth-year quarterback Jordan Love officially taking over the starting job in Green Bay. For Bears fans, though, it’s the official end of a dreadful era of football.

For years, Rodgers has tortured the Bears on the football field. He had a staggering record of 24-5 against Chicago with 64 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. The worst defeat of all came during the 2011 NFC Championship game where Rodgers and the Packers bounced the Bears from the playoffs on their way to winning Super Bowl XLV.

From blowout losses to his infamous “I own you” comments, it wasn’t pretty for Bears fans when Rodgers was under center. But with his departure, coupled with a young and up-and-coming team inside Halas Hall, the hope is that the next chapter of the Bears and Packers rivalry won’t be so lopsided.

Though it was known the news was coming at some point, fans still took to social media to celebrate the trade. Even the Bears’ official Twitter account couldn’t help but join in on the fun.

Twitter reacts to the Bears signing QB P.J. Walker

Fans are happy to see P.J. Walker sign with the Bears as the new backup quarterback.

The Chicago Bears have a new backup quarterback. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Bears are signing former Carolina Panthers quarterback P.J. Walker to a two-year deal. Walker likely becomes the new backup to Justin Fields and also reunites with receiver D.J. Moore, who the team acquired from the Panthers last week as part of the trade involving first overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Walker joined the Indianapolis Colts in 2017 as an undrafted free agent, but burst onto the scene in 2020 in the XFL for the Houston Roughnecks. He was the league leader in passing yards and touchdowns before the COVID-19 pandemic halted play. That success propelled him to a deal with the Panthers, where he started a handful of games between 2020 and 2022.

Last season, Walker started five games, throwing for 731 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. His best moment came on a 62-yard Hail Mary touchdown to Moore against the Atlanta Falcons late in the fourth quarter in an overtime loss. Now, he comes to Chicago as the backup to Fields and a chance to work with Moore once again. The Bears do still have Trevor Siemian on the roster as a backup, but he may be on his way out with Walker coming on.

Though it wasn’t the bombshell Bears fans were hoping to see, people seem happy with the move to land a backup like Walker. Here is how Twitter reacted to the news.

Twitter reacts to the Bears signing RB Travis Homer

Bears fans are content with Travis Homer signing as a reserve, but think it means a big move in the draft is coming at running back.

The Chicago Bears lost a running back on Tuesday evening, but gained a new one shortly after. They are expected to sign former Seattle Seahawks running back Travis Homer to a two-year deal worth up to $4.5 million. The deal was first reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. The news came a short time after former Bears running back David Montgomery agreed to a deal with the Detroit Lions.

Homer was selected in the sixth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft and played primarily a backup and special teams role for the Seahawks. In 2022, Homer rushed for 74 yards on 19 carries and caught 16 passes for 157 yards and one touchdown on offense. He’s also an effective pass blocker, which the Bears sorely need to keep Justin Fields upright.

As a contributor on special teams, Homer had nine total tackles and a forced fumble. He will likely slot in as a reserve running back option and compete with Trestan Ebner behind Khalil Herbert and possibly another player.

On Twitter, Bears fans were more focused on reading the tea leaves with the Homer signing and what it could mean in the upcoming draft. Or they were simply happy to use clips and gifs from The Simpsons.

Twitter reacts to RB David Montgomery signing with the Lions

David Montgomery is heading to a division rival and many Bears fans are upset after losing one of their favorite players.

A fan-favorite Chicago Bear has found a new home, but isn’t going far. Former Bears running back David Montgomery is signing with the Detroit Lions on a three-year deal. The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Montgomery was drafted by the Bears in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Iowa State. He became their bell cow back, rushing for over 800 yards in each of his four seasons. He played in 16 games in 2022, rushing for 801 yards and five rushing touchdowns while splitting time with Khalil Herbert. His best year came in 2020 when he eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. Now, Montgomery joins the Lions as one of their featured backs, likely replacing free agent Jamaal Williams.

Many Bears fans were bracing for the reality that Montgomery would not return, but knowing he’s going to a division rival makes the move sting just a little bit more. Here are some of the fan reactions on Twitter.

Twitter reacts to the Bears signing LB Tremaine Edmunds

The Bears made a huge signing with LB Tremaine Edmunds and fans are split on the move. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news.

The Chicago Bears are doubling down on the linebacker position in a big way this free agency. After agreeing to a deal with T.J. Edwards earlier in the day, the team is expected to sign Pro Bowl linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal is for four years and $72 million with $50 million guaranteed.

Edmunds was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft after they traded up to select the young linebacker out of Virginia Tech. Edmunds had over 100 combined tackles in each of his five seasons, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2019 and 2020. During his last season in Buffalo, he notched 102 total tackles, including six for a loss, with one interception and one sack in 13 games played.

The signing of Edmunds’ is general manager Ryan Poles’ third of free agency, but it’s been the biggest one for the Bears so far. While it’s a significant move, Bears fans appear to be split on the decision to commit so much money to the linebacker position, as well as the decision to pay Edmunds after failing to extend Roquan Smith before he was dealt last season. Here is how Twitter reacted to the signing.

Twitter reacts to the Bears’ expected signing of LB T.J. Edwards

The Bears are expected to sign LB T.J. Edwards and fans appear to be satisfied with the move.

Free agent frenzy is off and running and the Chicago Bears already landed one of the premier players on the market. The Bears are expected to sign Philadelphia Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards as first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Edwards will sign a three-year deal worth up to $19.5 million with $12 million guaranteed, shoring up the linebacker position for the foreseeable future.

Edwards, a local product from Lake Villa, IL, signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2019 out of Wisconsin. He quickly became an impact player during his rookie season and became a full-time starter in 2020. Edwards had a career year last season, totaling 159 tackles, including 10 for a loss, as well as two sacks and seven passes defensed. He was a key cog in the Eagles’ road to Super Bowl LVII.

Though the signing won’t be made official until Wednesday, Bears fans took to Twitter to share their excitement over the move.

Bears fans are celebrating blockbuster trade for No. 1 pick with Panthers

Bears fans everywhere can’t contain their excitement after the blockbuster trade for the No. 1 pick with the Panthers.

The Chicago Bears sent shockwaves through the NFL on Friday, agreeing to a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers centered around the No. 1 overall pick, first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Bears dealt the top pick to Carolina in exchange for their No. 9 and No. 61, a first-round pick in 2024, a second-round pick in 2025 and wide receiver D.J. Moore, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles has been publicly saying the pick was for sale and believed he could have a deal done by the start of free agency. He accomplished that and set the Bears up with multiple premium picks and a top receiver for years to come.

When the news of the deal broke, it sent Bears fans everywhere into a state of euphoria. All across social media, praise is being heaped on Poles for playing the situation as perfectly as he could. Here are just some of the Twitter reactions from Bears and NFL fans.

Twitter erupts over the Bears getting the No. 1 overall draft pick

Bears fans celebrated Lovie Smith and the Texans victory that gave them the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Chicago Bears entered Week 18 with the opportunity to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. At 3-13, the Bears just needed to lose to the Minnesota Vikings and have the 2-12-1 Houston Texans, led by former Bears head coach Lovie Smith, get a victory against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Bears did their part, losing 29-13 to finish the season 3-14. All that was left was to watch the Texans try to come back against the Colts after blowing a double-digit lead.

Thanks to an improbable fourth and 20 conversion to score a touchdown and then get the go-ahead two-point conversion, Houston secured the 32-31 win that gave the Bears the top draft pick. It’s the first time since 1947 Chicago will hold the keys to the first overall selection.

Watching the back-and-forth game between the Texans and Colts was stressful for Bears fans, but they rejoiced when it was all said and done. With the top draft pick and the most cap space in the NFL this offseason, the Bears will be very active in the spring. Fans couldn’t contain their excitement while thanking Smith and the Texans for getting the job done.
