Bears place LG Cody Whitehair on IR, WR N’Keal Harry designated to return from IR

Bears LG Cody Whitehair will miss at least 4 games landing on IR while N’Keal Harry’s 3-week window to return from IR has opened.

The Chicago Bears announced a couple of roster moves ahead of their Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.

Matt Eberflus announced that left guard Cody Whitehair has been placed on short-term injured reserve with a right knee injury. Whitehair is required to miss at least the next four games before a potential return. Eberflus reiterated he doesn’t believe Whitehair’s injury is season-ending.

Eberflus also announced that wide receiver N’Keal Harry has been designated to return from IR. Harry, who suffered an ankle injury on Aug. 6, has a 21-day window to be activated off IR.

With Whitehair sidelined for at least the next month, the offensive line will look like this: LT Braxton Jones, LG Lucas Patrick, C Sam Mustipher, RG Teven Jenkins, RT Larry Borom.

Outside of Darnell Mooney, the Bears don’t have a top option at receiver, which has certainly hurt quarterback Justin Fields. Chicago is hopeful Harry can provide a boost to the receiving corps, although Eberflus declined to say whether or not Harry would play this Sunday against Minnesota.

Bears place WR Byron Pringle on IR, sign LB Joe Thomas off practice squad

The Bears placed Byron Pringle on IR, which means he’ll have to miss a minimum of 4 games. They’ve signed Joe Thomas off the practice squad.

The Chicago Bears have placed receiver Byron Pringle on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.

Pringle suffered a calf injury in Sunday’s win over the Houston Texans. He had one reception for 11 yards before exiting in the first half. Through three games, Pringle has two catches for 33 yards.

With Pringle landing on IR, he’ll be required to miss a minimum of four games, which would make him eligible to return in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Bears signed linebacker Joe Thomas to the active roster in a corresponding roster move. Thomas was on the practice squad and elevated to the active roster for last week’s game against the Texans, where he totaled five tackles.

With Matt Adams sidelined with a hamstring injury, Thomas provides stability at strong-side linebacker.

Something that’s worth monitoring heading into the coming weeks is the status of receiver N’Keal Harry, who was placed on IR to start the season. Harry suffered a significant ankle sprain back in training camp that required surgery. Harry is eligible to return in Week 5 against the Vikings.

Bears place Alex Leatherwood on NFI list, re-sign Michael Schofield to active roster

The Bears announced a couple of roster moves. Alex Leatherwood will miss a minimum of 4 weeks on NFI as Michael Schofield rejoins the team.

The Chicago Bears announced a couple of roster moves to kick off Bears-Packers week.

Chicago has placed offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood on the non-football illness list and re-signed offensive lineman Michael Schofield to the active roster.

Leatherwood was claimed off waivers by the Bears after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders. With Leatherwood landing on the NFI list, it means he’ll be out for a minimum of four weeks.

“We feel great about where he is and him coming back,” Eberflus said.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Leatherwood has mononucleosis.

Schofield rejoins his hometown team after being among the final roster cuts back in late August. He provides depth at guard and tackle along the offensive line.

The offensive line remains a focal point heading into a Week 2 divisional matchup against the Packers, especially after some struggles against the 49ers in the season opener.

One of those is the rotation at right guard between Teven Jenkins and Lucas Patrick, who will return to center once he can snap a ball again.

Bears sign OL Corey Dublin and S Jon Alexander, waive 2 veterans

With the deadline for the first round of roster cuts hours away, the Bears have made some roster moves. But they still have 4 cuts to make.

With the deadline for the first round of roster cuts just hours away, the Chicago Bears have made some roster moves.

The Bears have waived tight end Rysen John and linebacker Noah Dawkins. Normally, they would count toward those five cuts needed to get down to 85 players by 3 p.m. But Chicago also signed two players in their place: offensive lineman Corey Dublin and defensive back Jon Alexander.

Dublin, an undrafted rookie out of Tulane, has versatility at guard and center. He also had a minicamp tryout with the Bears back in May. Alexander signed as an undrafted rookie with the Bears this spring and was waived earlier this month. Now, he’s back in Chicago.

With injuries at tight end, John saw increased reps and even worked with the starters. But it appears he wasn’t long for the roster. Meanwhile, Dawkins had been dealing with an injury, and he faced an uphill battle to win a roster spot at linebacker.

The Bears need to trim their roster from to 85 players by 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday. So far, Chicago has waived undrafted rookie defensive end Carson Taylor (with no corresponding roster move).

Check out of roster cuts tracker below to see how the Bears get from 90 to 85 players:
