Bears place safety Adrian Colbert on IR, waive injured TE Jared Pinkney

The Bears made a couple of roster moves Monday, placing Adrian Colbert on IR and waiving Jared Pinkney.

The Chicago Bears announced a couple of roster moves Monday. They placed veteran safety Adrian Colbert on injured reserve and waived injured tight end Jared Pinkney.

The Bears signed Colbert last November, where he appeared in two games near the end of the 2022 season. Pinkney was signed by Chicago a few weeks ago.

Colbert, a former seventh round pick by the 49ers in 2017, spent time with five different teams before joining the Bears. He spent his first two seasons in San Francisco, where he totaled 58 tackles, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 21 games with  12 starts. He also had stops with the  Dolphins (2019), Giants (2020), Browns (2021) and Jets (2021).

Pinkney was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons in 2020. He played in four games for the Los Angeles Rams last season and two games for the Detroit Lions in 2021.

The Bears now have two open roster spots on their 90-man roster heading into the final week of the preseason, where they’ll soon have to narrow it down to 53 players on Aug. 29.

Bears sign LB Davion Taylor, waive injured LB Buddy Johnson

The Bears have made a couple of roster moves at linebacker ahead of Saturday’s preseason game vs. Colts.

The Chicago Bears made a couple of roster moves Thursday ahead of Saturday’s preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Bears waived injured linebacker Buddy Johnson and signed linebacker Davion Taylor.

Taylor, a former third-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020, was at Halas Hall for a tryout earlier this week. Taylor appeared in 21 games with the Eagles from 2020-21 at WILL linebacker before spending the 2022 season on the practice squad.

Taylor played behind new Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards in Philadelphia.

Taylor adds more depth at linebacker for Chicago, who overhauled the position this offseason with the additions of Edwards and T.J. Edmunds. They also have Jack Sanborn and rookie Noah Sewell, as well as recently-signed Mykal Walker and Dylan Cole among others.

Bears claim former Falcons LB Mykal Walker, waive LB Kuony Deng

Mykal Walker had over 100 tackles last for the Falcons and now joins the Bears.

The Chicago Bears are making moves at the linebacker position. On Monday afternoon, the team announced they claimed former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Mykal Walker off waivers and waived linebacker Kuony Deng in a corresponding move.

Walker was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Falcons out of Fresno State, where he rose from a role player to a starter by his third season. In 2022, Walker started 12 games for the Falcons, where he totaled 107 tackles (four for a loss), one sack, two interceptions, and six passes defensed.

Atlanta waived Walker on Sunday in a bit of a surprise move. The Bears are first on the waiver priority list and put in a claim for Walker, taking advantage of an opportunity to bolster their linebacking corps.

With Walker joining the team, the Bears opted to waive Deng, a reserve who has yet to appear in a regular season game. Coincidentally, Deng signed with the Bears late in the 2022 season after spending much of the year with the Falcons on the practice squad.

Bears sign LB Barrington Wade, TE Lachlan Pitts

The Bears are expected to sign LB Barrington Wade, according to Brad Biggs.

The Chicago Bears are have signed linebacker Barrington Wade and tight end Lachlan Pitts, the team announced Tuesday morning.

The Bears waived kicker Andre Szmyt and tight end Jake Tonges (injury designation).

Chicago recently held tryouts at linebacker, including Wade, Tyreek Maddox-Williams, Tanner Vallejo and Tre Walker.

Wade is a former undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens in 2021. He was part of the team’s final roster cuts before landing on the Denver Broncos practice squad for the rest of the 2021 season. Wade was most recently with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Wade has appeared in four NFL games, where he’s totaled one tackle.

The Bears have been battling injuries at linebacker, with Tremaine Edmunds, Jack Sanborn and Dylan Cole all currently sidelined. Wade is expected to be a camp body, where he’ll get a chance to make a name for himself during the preseason.

Pitts is an undrafted rookie out of William & Mary. Last season, he caught 28 passes for 543 yards and five touchdowns.

Bears claim former Panthers DT Bravvion Roy

The Bears added depth to the defensive line in claiming former Panthers DT Bravvion Roy.

The Chicago Bears added depth to their defensive line on Tuesday, although it’s not the position many fans have been waiting for.

The Bears have claimed former Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Bravvion Roy, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Chicago has top priority with the waiver wire after finishing with the worst record in the NFL last season.

Roy, a former sixth-round pick out of Baylor, has played 45 games, including 15 starts, in three seasons with the Panthers. With Carolina transitioning to a 3-4 defense this offseason, there wasn’t a need for additional depth along the interior.

Last season, Roy totaled 17 tackles, four pressures and five stops in 13 games, including four starts. He earned a PFF run defense grade of 48.6 and pass rush grade of 60.9 in 2022.

While the Bears strengthened the interior of the defensive line, they still have a glaring hole at edge rusher. It wasn’t made any better by top pass rusher DeMarcus Walker exiting Tuesday’s practice with an apparent injury. It’s definitely something worth monitoring.

When the move becomes official, the team will need to make a corresponding roster move as a result.

Pitts was signed by the Bears as an undrafted rookie out of Delaware this offseason.

The Bears now have six tight ends on the roster: Cole Kmet, Robert Tonyan, Jake Tonges, Chase Allen, Stephen Carlson and Pinkney.

The Chicago Bears have made some changes to the roster ahead of training camp, which officially begins Wednesday.

As previously reported, the Bears have signed wide receiver Isaiah Ford and linebacker Buddy Johnson. They also waived linebacker Sterling Weatherford and punter Ryan Anderson.

Ford, a former seventh-round pick by the Dolphins in 2017, has served as a reserve wideout during his career. He last saw action during the 2021 season, where he totaled 12 receptions for 161 yards and two touchdowns. In 2022, Ford spent the season on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad.

Johnson, a former fourth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021, played primarily on special teams as a rookie. He was waived during roster cutdowns in his second season. But he soon landed on the San Francisco 49ers practice squad for the 2022 season.

Ford and Johnson and expected to serve as camp bodies, where they’ll also look to compete for a spot on Chicago’s practice squad.

Here’s a look at the roster moves the Bears announced ahead of their Week 13 matchup against the Packers:

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers, and there’s a lot happening with this Chicago roster ahead of Week 13.

Bears waive WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette, promote WR Isaiah Coulter to active roster

The Bears have parted ways with WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette and promoted WR Isaiah Coulter to the active roster ahead of Week 7.

The Chicago Bears announced a couple of roster moves ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the New England Patriots on Monday night. And one of those moves has been a long time coming.

The Bears have waived wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette and signed wide receiver Isaiah Coulter to the active roster, the team announced Tuesday.

Smith-Marsette was claimed off waivers by Chicago ahead of the start of the regular season, and there was optimism about his potential on offense. But Smith-Marsette has had a number of dropped passes and a costly fumble that cost the Bears a chance at victory against the Minnesota Vikings back in Week 5.

In six games with the Bears, Smith-Marsette had one catch for 15 yards on four targets.

In a corresponding roster move, Coulter was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. Coulter has spent the last couple of seasons on the Bears’ practice squad, and he was one of the standouts — and a favorite target of quarterback Justin Fields — during training camp.

Receiver Byron Pringle remains on injured reserve, and he’s eligible to return as early as Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys. Chicago recently activated N’Keal Harry from IR to the active roster, and he’s slated to make his Bears debut against his former team, the Patriots, on Monday Night Football.
