Bears DT Akiem Hicks, CB Prince Amukamara questionable vs. Chiefs

The Bears released their final injury report ahead of Sunday’s game vs. Chiefs, and DT Akiem Hicks and CB Prince Amukamara are questionable.

The Chicago Bears released their final injury report ahead of Sunday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and two defensive starters are questionable.

Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, who returned last week against the Packers after battling a dislocated elbow suffered in Week 5, seemed to reaggregate the injury last Sunday.

Hicks was a full participant in practice all week and wasn’t listed on the injury report. He was designated a questionable status on Friday, but Bears coach Matt Nagy expects him to play against the Chiefs.

Cornerback Prince Amukamara is also questionable for Sunday as he deals with a hamstring injury suffered against the Lions in Week 13. Amukamara started last week’s game against the Packers, but reserve Kevin Toliver also saw playing time in his place.

Amukamara was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday, and his status is in question for Sunday. If that’s the case, Toliver would make his third career start.

Defensive tackle Bilal Nichols was limited Friday, as he usually is when the Bears practice indoors.

Bears Injury Report: CB Prince Amukamara limited Thursday

The Bears released their Thursday injury report, and DT Akiem Hicks looks to be good to go for Sunday against the Chiefs.

The Chicago Bears released their Thursday injury report ahead of Sunday’s primetime game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and there were some defensive standouts.

Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks once again did not pop up on the injury report, and Bears coach Matt Nagy said that Hicks will play Sunday against the Chiefs. Nagy has insisted that these final two games will be treated like the others in terms of starters playing.

Cornerback Prince Amukamara was listed as limited during Thursday’s practice. Amukamara continues to nurse a hamstring injury suffered against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. He played last week against the Green Packers, but second-year cornerback Kevin Toliver saw some playing time, as well. If Amukamara can’t go, expect Toliver to get his third career start.

Wide receiver Taylor Gabriel (concussion) and right tackle Bobby Massie (ankle) did not participate in practice for the second straight day this week. They haven’t played since Week 12, where they suffered injuries against the New York Giants.

Bears DT Akiem Hicks not listed on Wednesday’s injury report

The Bears released their injury report for Wednesday, where Akiem Hicks, Roy Robertson-Harris and Javon Wims weren’t on the injury report.

The Chicago Bears returned to practice in preparation for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, and there was some reassuring news on the injury front.

Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks was not listed on Wednesday’s injury report, which is good news considering he re-aggravated his dislocated elbow against the Packers last Sunday. Hicks fought through the discomfort, and he was a force on the field playing with essentially one arm.

Wide receiver Taylor Gabriel and right tackle Bobby Massie were the only names on the injury report, where they both did not practice. which is good news for defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris (who missed last Sunday’s game with a foot injury) and receiver Javon Wims (who was active but recovering from a knee injury).

Inside linebacker Danny Trevathan was placed on injured reserve earlier Wednesday, following a dislocated elbow suffered six weeks ago against the Lions.

Bears place ILB Danny Trevathan on injured reserve

Danny Trevathan’s season is over after the Bears placed the veteran ILB on injured reserve.

Danny Trevathan’s season is over after the Bears placed the veteran linebacker on injured reserve Wednesday.

Trevathan suffered a gruesome elbow injury against the Lions in Week 10, and he hasn’t practiced since. The Bears were holding out hope that he could return this season. But with the Bears eliminated from playoff contention there’s no use risking the health of a player in these final two games.

There are many questions about Trevathan’s future with the Bears, especially considering how his replacement Nick Kwiatkoski has been playing.

While Trevathan has expressed his desire to remain in Chicago, the Bears could be looking elsewhere at inside linebacker to line up opposite Roquan Smith in 2020 and beyond. Kwiatkoski, who is set to become a free agent, will surely be a player the Bears will look to lock up this offseason and could pair with Smith.

Trevathan joins a long list of Bears that have been sent to IR, including right guard Kyle Long, tight ends Trey Burton, Adam Shaheen and Ben Braunecker and inside linebacker Roquan Smith.

The Bears promoted cornerback Michael Joseph to the active roster in Trevathan’s place. They also signed wide receiver Alex Wesley to the practice squad.

Bears DT Akiem Hicks could play vs. Chiefs or he could wind up on IR

With the Bears eliminated from playoff contention, DT Akiem Hicks acknowledged that it “changes perspective” a bit.

While last week marked the bitter end of the Bears’ playoff hopes with a deflating 21-13 loss to the Packers, there was a silver lining in the heartbreak: The return of defensive tackle Akiem Hicks.

Hicks was activated off injured reserve on Saturday and started Sunday against Green Bay, where he fought through the pain of his re-aggravated elbow injury. More than that, his impact was felt on the field, even as he essentially played with one arm.

Now that Bears have been eliminated from playoff contention, it’s fair to believe that shutting down Hicks for the season would be what’s best. Ultimately, that’s for the Bears to decide. But if you ask Hicks, he’s determined to finish out the rest of this season with his teammates.

“It’s about the boys, man,” Hicks said Tuesday. “It’s about being out there with your guys. I love competition. I love competition. I love riding with my guys.

“You would laugh to imagine some of the things that guys play through in this league. There isn’t a week that I can remember where my body felt 100 percent. It’s kind of customary. You’re used to playing through injury.”

With the Bears eliminated from playoff contention, Hicks acknowledged that it “changes perspective” a bit. While Hicks could wind up suiting up Sunday night against the Chiefs, he could also realistically end up on injured reserve.

“There’s no decisions made,” Hicks said. “I’m brought here to play football, so when my number is called, that’s what I do. What comes after that, we don’t know. We’ll see going forward.”

Will Bears DT Akiem Hicks play Sunday vs. Chiefs?

Despite the fact the Bears are eliminated from playoff contention, Matt Nagy won’t rule out DT Akiem Hicks’ playing Sunday vs. Chiefs.

Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks’ return to the starting lineup wasn’t without its struggles.

There were several times throughout Sunday’s 21-13 loss to the Packers where Hicks was in visible pain from his recovering dislocated elbow. But he stuck it out through the game — and he made his presence known even as he was playing with essentially one arm.

Hicks expects to finish this season, even despite the obvious discomfort after re-aggravating his elbow injury. That’s just the competitor in him. But if Hicks is good to go, Bears coach Matt Nagy insists that Hicks will play.

“We want to continue to just keep going forward with him like we’ve been,” Nagy said Monday. “I don’t look at [being out of playoff contention] as changing anything with that.”

With the Bears eliminated from playoff contention, there’s nothing left to play for. You’d expect the Bears to shelve a cornerstone member of their defense to get him healthy for 2020. But that might necessarily be the case with Hicks.

“We’ve gotta talk through all that, and I think that’s the biggest thing — making sure that we’re all on the same page,” Nagy said. “But I know Akiem’s gonna want to be out there playing and helping our defense as much as he can.”

Bears’ Week 15 Inactives: DT Akiem Hicks will start, DE Roy Robertson-Harris out vs. Packers

The Bears have released their list of inactives ahead of today’s game against the Packers, and Akiem Hicks and Javon Wims are active.

The Chicago Bears have released their list of inactives ahead of today’s game against the Green Bay Packers. And it’s officially official: Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks is good to go for the Bears.

Hicks was activated from injured reserve on Saturday, where he spent eight weeks as he recovered from a dislocated elbow suffered against the Oakland Raiders in Week 5. His return proves to be big for this Bears defense from a physical and mental standpoint.

Defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris, on the other hand, is inactive with a foot injury suffered against the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 5.

Receiver Javon Wims, who was also injured against Dallas, is active for today’s game. Wims was said to have sustained a slight knee sprain that will not force him to miss any game action.

Here’s a look at the Bears’ inactives:

The Bears have now placed three TEs on injured reserve in 2019

With Ben Braunecker being placed on injured reserve on Saturday, he’s now the third Bears tight end to land on IR this season.

To say that the Chicago Bears haven’t gotten production out of the tight end position this season would be an understatement.

Until J.P. Holtz and Jesper Horsted last week against the Dallas Cowboys, tight ends were virtually non-existent in the Bears offense. Which isn’t exactly ideal when your offense requires a productive tight end to make it go.

No matter how you look at it, Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen were complete and utter disappointments this season. In eight games, Burton had 14 receptions for 84 yards and zero touchdowns while Shaheen had 9 catches for 74 yards and zero touchdowns. They were both placed on season-ending IR, and they haven’t been missed in this offense.

With Ben Braunecker (who’s dealt with a concussion for three weeks) placed on injured reserve Saturday, he became the third tight end for the Bears this season to end up on IR.

In their absence, Holtz and Horsted are rising to the challenge as the Bears offense is taking off. Last week against Dallas, Holtz and Horsted combined for 7 receptions for 92 yards. But it’s too little too late as the playoffs seem all but a 2% far-fetched dream.

This offseason, tight end has to be a major focus for general manager Ryan Pace. Even though Burton is almost assured to return, as his release would result in $7.5 million in dead money, the Bears are surely going to look to the NFL Draft for some tight end assistance. Shaheen, on the other hand, might not be as safe. The Bears could free up $1.3 million in cap space by cutting him this offseason.

Bears activate DT Akiem Hicks off injured reserve

The Bears have officially activated DT Akiem Hicks off injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game against the Packers.

The Chicago Bears defense lost one of its starters last week when linebacker Roquan Smith was sent to injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle. But they received some good news with the return of defensive tackle Akiem Hicks.

The Bears activated Hicks off IR and to the active roster ahead of tomorrow’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

Hicks suffered a dislocated elbow against the Oakland Raiders in Week 5, and he was sent to IR shortly after with the potential to return in Week 15. While the belief was that Hicks would be ready to make his grand return against the Packers, the team made it official on Saturday.

Tight end Ben Braunecker (concussion) has been placed on injured reserve, which freed up the roster spot for Hicks.

In Week 1 against the Packers, Hicks had one sack of Aaron Rodgers, and he’ll be looking to replicate that this Sunday in a game that, for all intents and purposes, is a playoff game for the Bears.

Bears DE Roy Robertson-Harris, WR Javon Wims questionable vs. Packers

The Bears have ruled out four players ahead of Sunday’s game vs the Packers, and DE Roy Robertson-Harris and WR Javon Wims are questionable.

The Chicago Bears released their final injury report ahead of Sunday’s divisional game against the Green Bay Packers, and it’s definitely more encouraging than Thursday.

The Bears have ruled out four players ahead of Sunday’s game, including tight end Ben Braunecker (concussion), receiver Taylor Gabriel (concussion), right tackle Bobby Massie (ankle) and linebacker Danny Trevathan.

After missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris and receiver Javon Wims were both limited on Friday. They’re both questionable against the Packers.

Receiver/return specialist Cordarrelle Patterson was limited in practice on Thursday after suffering a head injury during practice. But Patterson was a full participant in Friday’s practice, and he doesn’t have a game designation, which means he’s good to go against Green Bay.

Cornerback Prince Amukamara, who suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions in Week 13, was a full participant in practice all week, and it looks like he’s good to go for a return against Green Bay.

While defensive tackle Bilal Nichols popped up on the injury report, that’s typical for Friday practices indoors. His game status is not in jeopardy.
