USA TODAY has 8 Alabama players going first round, Tagovailoa top 5

Let’s take a look and see where USA Today believes these 8 Alabama players are going:

One of the biggest college football stories right now in undoubtedly the NFL Draft. Everyone is eager to know who is declaring, who is returning, and where they would end up in the draft.

On Monday night, Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses announced he will be returning to Alabama for the 2020 season. There will be more announcements after the Citrus Bowl on Wednesday regarding player’s decisions on their future. But as of right now, there is the potential for 8 Alabama players to be drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft according to USA Today.

Let’s take a look and see where USA Today believes these 8 Alabama players are going:

5. Miami Dolphins – Tua Tagovailoa, QB

According to Nick Saban, with the NFL teams he has talked to, Tagovailoa is the only one who scored a top 15 grade. But, time still tells. Tua still has a decision to make on whether he is retuning or declaring, and his draft stock is pretty dependent on his prognosis as he continues to recover from hip surgery. Regardless, Tagovailoa has plenty of talent to become a franchise quarterback wherever he ended up, if he was to declare for the NFL Draft.

7. Carolina Panthers — Jedrick Wills Jr., OT

If he was to decide to declare for the NFL Draft, USA Today believes he could end up on a team who desperately needs some help on the offensive line. After all, the Panthers were tied in the NFL for the most sacks allowed (58), and Wills has the ability to be a force on the O-line. There were many plays this season for the Crimson Tide that were furthered thanks to Wills’ ability to block, run over defenders, and hold his ground.

12. Oakland Raiders — Jerry Jeudy, WR

Simply put, the Oakland Raiders could desperately use a wide receiver like Jeudy who is so versatile, and is extremely talented. With former Alabama RB Josh Jacobs as a threat on the ground for the Raiders, adding a guy like Jeudy as a receiver could make the Raiders a team to watch for next season.

18. Miami Dolphins (from Steelers) — Alex Leatherwood, OT

If Tagovailoa was to end up in Miami, there is one thing he’d desperately need: offensive protection. Last season, the Dolphins allowed 146 quarterback hits, which was the worst in the league. There’s no way Tagovailoa could endure that much of a constant beating, and adding a strong offensive lineman like Leatherwood would help create protection for the quarterback. Leatherwood brings talent and a strong skillset, and is able to play several different positions such as guards and tackle.

19. Oakland Raiders (from Bears) — Trevon Diggs, CB

Trevon Diggs has shown his ability to be playmaker, and would be a big playmaker for the Raiders, a team who could use a dominant defender. Diggs’ speed and field vision allow him the ability to make big plays, and create momentum shifts. The Raiders could use a player like Diggs, who can create turnovers. After all, the Raiders led the league in allowed yards per play, and most allowed completions of 40+ yards.

21. Philadelphia Eagles — Henry Ruggs III, WR,

Ruggs is hands down, one of the fastest players in this draft class. His ability to move around defenders is outstanding, as is his ability to make big plays downfield. USA Today explains that this pick by the Eagles would open up an offensive opportunity of play for Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz. If there’s one player who is able to make extremely big plays downfield, it’s Ruggs.

22. Tennessee Titans — Terrell Lewis, OLB

His speed, strength, and size have allowed him to make big plays in the backfield, and that’s exactly what the Titans need. This season, they struggled to stop big plays downfield, as well as make big plays up front. If the Titans drafted a player like Lewis, it could be a game changer for them defensively.

31. San Francisco 49ers — Xavier McKinney, S

Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

McKinney was one of the more underrated defenders this season. The 49ers could easily use a player with the skillset and talent McKinney has. He has the ability to make big plays and create turnovers. All in all, McKinney would be a great pick to add to the 49ers secondary.

Regardless of these mock drafts, we will have to wait and see which players decided to declare and which players will decide to return.

Former Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough has had a rough time finding any stability in the NFL.

After being drafted in the final round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, he was placed on the practice squad, then waived, then picked up by the Seahawks and then released again.

When Detroit picked up the back who just wanted a chance, no one knew what to expect as they have former Auburn star Kerryon Johnson leading the backfield.

With K. Johnson out with an injured knee, he was given the opportunity to show what he can do.

And he made the most of it.

In five games played with the Lions in 2019, Scarbrough had 80 carries for 335 yards and a lone touchdown.

While the numbers may not be spectacular, it shows that Detroit trusts the potential within the Crimson Tide product.

He could even be a great complement to K. Johnson – Note: I said complement, not back up.

“I thought both of them ran well,” Lions offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said. “It was really great to see Kerryon back out there. He fought hard to be able to return for us. It was good to see him, had some nice runs for us. I think it’s good for him and good for the future, as well as having Bo.”

Scarbrough may not be the starting running back for the team heading into 2020, but he now knows that he has a team that wants him, respects his talents and plans to utilize him in all the right ways.

He looks to enter and finish the 2020 season with the same team, which would be the first time he’s done this in what would then be his third season in the NFL.

There is a lot in-store for Scarbrough, but only time will tell how successful of a running back he will be in the Lions’ system.

REPORT: AJ McCarron will be starting QB for Texans against Titans

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, former Alabama and current Texans’ quarterback AJ McCarron

When the Houston Texans host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, there will be a new QB1. According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, former Alabama and current Texans’ quarterback AJ McCarron will be the starter with Deshaun Watson as the backup. Watson has been limited all week in practice after suffering a back injury.

McCarron, who was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 5th round of the 2014 NFL Draft, played for the Bengals from 2014-2017. In 2018, he was a  part of the practice squad for the Buffalo Bills before being traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2018. Earlier this year in 2019, he joined the Texans where he has been a backup to Deshaun Watson. McCarron has only thrown one pass for the Texans this season.

At Alabama, McCarron won the Maxwell Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, was a first team All-American, won the 2012 SEC Championship, and won back to back National Championships in 2011 and 2012.

Why Josh Jacobs deserves OROY honors

When you look at the difference in the 2018 vs. 2019 Oakland Raiders, there’s one big difference: Josh Jacobs.

When you look at the difference in the 2018 vs. 2019 Oakland Raiders, there’s one big difference: Josh Jacobs. When Jacobs was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft, hopes were high, but few people expected Jacobs to have as big of an impact as he’s had for the Raiders in his rookie season.

So far this season, as a rookie, Jacobs has put up more than impressive numbers. He’s rushed for over 1,100 yards and has TDs, but that’s not all that’s impressive. Jacobs is 1st among ALL 2019 rookies for rushing yards per game, rushing yards for the season, rushing touchdowns, rushing 1st downs, rushing yards after contact, and rushing yards after contact (both in average and in total yards.)

And that’s not all. Jacobs also has forced the most missed tackles (70) which is the most anyone has forced since Marshawn Lynch in 2014.

Simply put, Josh Jacobs is more than deserving to win the NFL’s OROY honors.

He’s talented, an incredible leader, and has an even more incredible story.

Jacobs went from being homeless to becoming one of the league’s most impressive rookies in 2019. Here’s a video the Raiders posted that does a great job portraying just who Josh Jacobs truly is:

It was reported by NFL insider for NFL Network, Ian Rapoport, that Baltimore Ravens running back Mark Ingram suffered a calf strain and a timetable for a return has not yet been solidified.

As Rapoport mentioned, the team will hopefully have the former Alabama running back return, at full strength, in time for the playoffs.

With one week remaining in the 2019 NFL regular season, losing Ingram on the field won’t be such a big hit for the Ravens, as they are benching Lamar Jackson in order to keep him healthy for the playoffs.

Ingram has been a vital key to the teams success.

In the 2019 regular season he has taken 202 carries for 1,018 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.

The Ravens have the AFC North Division clinched for most of December and will cruise into the playoffs as the team to beat.

As a crucial piece to Baltimore’s offense, it’s safe to say everyone is hoping he has a speedy recovery and is able to help the team in the playoffs on the road to Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

Former Alabama running back Kenyan Drake has been relatively quiet during his professional career while on the Dolphins.

However, since being traded to the Arizona Cardinals after Week 6, he hasn’t been able to keep his name out of the headlines.

He continues to excel in the lead role for the Cardinals backfield in their match up against the red-hot Seattle Seahawks.

Drake opened up the Cardinal’s scoring with an 80-yard touchdown run which put his speed on display.

In the contest Drake posted another impressive line of 24 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

Today’s stats bring his season’s totals to 158 carries for  757 yards and seven touchdowns.

Drake’s contract is up after this season and with the success he has had with Arizona in 2019, they may look to just pay him what he wants to keep him there.

The combination of Kyler Murray and Drake seems to be working for the team who had a rough start to the season.

Adding some offensive talent to this team through the draft just might make them a viable candidate for the 2020 NFL playoffs.

Are Alabama RB’s taking over the NFL?

Alabama has produced talented players throughout the years on both sides of the ball at almost every position. However, it seems like this 2019 NFL season is showing that The Crimson Tide might be great at producing running backs.

Let’s check-in on the top active running backs in the NFL to have come out of Alabama:

Kenyan Drake:

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Alabama product found little to no success in Miami after being drafted by the Dolphins in 2016.

Lucky for Drake, five weeks into the 2019 season he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals, who have been desperate for a consistent back since their incumbent starter, David Johnson, has recently been attacked by the injury bug.

In his six weeks in Arizona, Drake has carried the ball 87 times for a total of 417 yards and five touchdowns – four of those five touchdowns came in a single game vs. Cleveland.

Drake is still settling into his role as the lead back for the franchise, but if the trend of increasing carries and yards continue, the NFL might have to look out for the lethal combo of Drake and Kyler Murray in the Arizona backfield.

Former Alabama cornerback Cyrus Jones underwent open-heart surgery this week in Denver, Colorado.

According to the Baltimore Sun, an anomalous coronary artery is a heart defect that causes an artery to grow in the wrong place. It’s the condition that affected UCLA basketball player Shareef O’Neal, the son of Shaquille O’Neal. Shareef O’Neal missed his freshman year after being diagnosed.

Jones was drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In 2018, he bounced back and forth from the Baltimore Ravens to the Patriots until finally staying with the Ravens in late 2018. That year, Jones had a HUGE 70 yard punt return for a TD against the Oakland Raiders in week 12 which earned him the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

On November 12, 2019, the Ravens released Jones. One day later, the Denver Broncos claimed him off waivers. And then on November 26th, Jones was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.

For the Ravens this season, Jones had 12 returns for 113 yards as well as 4 tackles.
