Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Baltimore Orioles (69-48) and Tampa Bay Rays (58-57) play the 2nd game of a 3-game series Saturday. First pitch from Tropicana Field is set for 7:15 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Orioles vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 4-2

The Orioles took the Friday opener 4-1 as -126 favorites as the Under (8) hit. SP Zach Eflin (7 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 K) is now 3-0 since getting traded to Baltimore from Tampa Bay July 26. DH Eloy Jimenez had his 4th multi-hit game in his 1st 7 with the Orioles. They also got solo home runs from CF Cedric Mullins and LF Colton Cowser. Baltimore is now 4-4 on its current 10-game road trip.

Rays SP Zack Littell suffered his 8th loss of the season after allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits over 5 innings. Tampa Bay’s offense could only manage 5 hits and didn’t score its 1st run until a 9th-inning solo shot from RF Dylan Carlson. The Rays have lost 3 of their last 4.

Orioles at Rays projected starters

RHP Corbin Burnes vs. RHP Drew Rasmussen

Burnes (12-4, 2.63 ERA) makes his 24th start. He has a 1.06 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 in 143 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 4 ER (5 R), 7 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 9-5 victory at Cleveland Guardians Sunday
  • 2024 road splits: 6-2, 3.20 ERA (70 1/3 IP, 25 ER), 0.97 WHIP, 7.5 K/9 in 11 starts
  • Only career start vs. Rays: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER (2 R), 5 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 5-2 road victory June 10

Rasmussen (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will serve as the opener Saturday, making his 1st start and 2nd appearance of 2024. He pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief (0 H, 0 BB, 3 K) in his season debut, a 5-2 loss at the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday.

  • Was reinstated from 60-day IL Wednesday after undergoing 3rd major elbow surgery in 7 years
  • 2023 stats: 4-2, 2.62 ERA (44 2/3 IP, 13 ER), 1.05 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 in 8 starts
  • Career vs. Orioles: 2-0, 2.13 ERA (25 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 0.83 WHIP, 7.1 K/9 in 6 appearances (4 starts) — last start in 2022

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 5, Rays 2

Moneyline

PASS.

The Orioles (-164) have their ace on the mound Saturday, and I fully expect them to get this victory, but I’m not going to bet nearly 2 units to win 1. I’ll save my wager for the run line.

Run line/Against the spread

BET ORIOLES -1.5 (+104).

Burnes has been everything the Orioles wanted and more when they acquired him this offseason from the Milwaukee Brewers. He takes the ball every 5th day, keeps them in games and eats innings. He is 3-0 in his last 4 starts, allowing a little over 2 runs per game. The Rays will struggle to get much if anything against him Saturday.

Baltimore is 10-10 since the All-Star break, but it’s not because of the offense — its team ERA is 4.97. The good news for the Orioles, Burnes has been consistent throughout the season.

Over/Under

PASS.

The uncertainty surrounding how Rasmussen will fare after a 3rd major elbow surgery makes it hard to recommend a bet. I’ll just avoid it and focus my wager on the run line.

However, if forced to make a play, my instinct would be to consider the Under with Burnes on the mound.

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Baltimore Orioles (68-48) and Tampa Bay Rays (58-56) open a 3-game series Friday. First pitch from Tropicana Field is at 6:50 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Orioles vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 6-1

The Orioles lost 7-6 Toronto on Thursday afternoon against the Blue Jays, cashing the Over (9) for the 6th time in the past 7 outings. However, the O’s are just 3-4 in the 7-game span.

The Rays salvaged a game in their interleague series Thursday in St. Louis, winning the final 6-4 as an underdog (+106) as the Over (8) cashed. Like Baltimore, Tampa Bay is 3-4 in the past 7 outings. The Under was on a 5-0 run until Thursday’s Over result.

These teams have met 7 times, with the Rays winning just once. The good news is that the victory was in one of RHP Zack Littell‘s 2 starts against the O’s. He gets the ball for Friday’s series opener.

For the O’s, RHP Zach Eflin makes his 1st start against the Rays after being traded to the Orioles at the MLB non-waiver trade deadline in late July.

Orioles at Rays projected starters

RHP Zach Eflin vs. RHP Zack Littell

Eflin (7-7, 4.05 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.18 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9 and 7.1 K/9 in 122 1/3 IP with the Rays and Orioles.

  • Last start: Win, 6 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 7-4 road victory vs. Cleveland Guardians last Saturday
  • 2024 road splits: 3-5, 5.10 ERA (72 1/3 IP, 41 ER), 1.27 WHIP, .279 opponents’ batting average (OBA), 10 BB, 57 K in 13 starts with Rays and Orioles
  • Career vs. Rays: 0-1, 4.91 ERA (7 1/3 IP, 4 ER), 1.23 WHIP, 6.1 K/9 in 1 start (2 appearances)

Littell (1-1, 3.72 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.52 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 in 29 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H (1 solo HR), 1 BB, 3 K in 6-1 road victory vs. Houston Astros last Saturday
  • 2024 home splits: 3-3, 3.00 ERA (66 IP, 22 ER), 1.08 WHIP, .239 OBA, 11 BB, 63 K in 11 starts
  • 2024 vs. Orioles: 0-1, 4.50 ERA (12 IP, 6 ER), .340 OBA, 2 BB, 6 K in 2 starts
  • Career vs. Orioles: 0-1, 3.66 ERA (19 2/3 IP, 8 ER), 1.32 WHIP, 5.9 K/9 in 3 starts (5 appearances)

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Orioles -1.5 (+126) | Rays +1.5 (-152)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Orioles 4

Moneyline

The RAYS (+114) are a solid play in this series opener against old friend Eflin and the visiting Orioles (-134).

Yes, Baltimore is 6-1 against Tampa Bay this season, but the lone win came with the Burlington, N.C., native Littell on the bump June 2 in 1 of his 2 outings against the O’s.

Eflin has been shaky on the road, and the Rays certainly know his tendencies.

Run line/Against the spread

If you’re not feeling Tampa Bay straight up, and you’d like a little insurance instead, consider RAYS +1.5 (-152), as they’re not priced out of line. Tampa Bay is 9-1 in the past 10 games as an underdog on the run line, winning 6 of those games since July 23 straight up.

Over/Under

OVER 7.5 (-115) is worth a look in this series opener.

While the Under is 5-1 in the past 6 games for the Rays, the Over cashed Thursday. The Over is 6-4 in Littell’s past 10 outings, including his most recent start June 9 against the O’s in a 9-2 setback.

For the O’s, the total has gone high in 7 of the past 8 games, and 18 of the past 21 outings. The Over is 2-1-1 in the 4 previous meetings in St. Petersburg this season, too.

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Baltimore Orioles (42-22) and Tampa Bay Rays (31-34) conclude their 4-game series Monday. First pitch from Tropicana Field is slated for 6:50 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Orioles vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 5-1

The Orioles are going for a 4-game sweep of the Rays in St. Petersburg Monday. Baltimore won 9-2 Sunday as a -139 favorite with the Over (7.5) cashing. C Adley Rutschman went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and finished with 6 RBIs. RHP Grayson Rodriguez took a perfect game into the 6th inning to earn his 7th win of the season. The Orioles have outscored the Rays 20-5 in the first 3 games of this series.

The Rays only managed 2 runs in Sunday’s loss on 6th-inning RBI singles from 2B Brandon Lowe and LF Randy Arozarena. Starter RHP Zack Littell was respectable holding Baltimore to 3 ERs over his 6 innings but it wasn’t enough.

Orioles at Rays projected starters

RHP Corbin Burnes vs. RHP Ryan Pepiot

Burnes (6-2, 2.26 ERA) makes his 14th start. He has a 1.02 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 in 79 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K in 10-1 victory at Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday
  • Has never faced Rays; made MLB debut in 2018
  • 2024 road splits: 3-1, 3.09 ERA (32 IP, 11 ER), 0.97 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 in 5 starts

Pepiot (4-2, 3.96 ERA) makes his 11th start. He has a 0.96 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 10.1 K/9 in 52 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 8 K in 9-5 victory at Miami Marlins Tuesday
  • Has never faced Orioles; made MLB debut in 2022
  • 2024 home splits: 1-2, 5.24 ERA (34 1/3 IP, 20 ER), 1.14 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 in 7 starts

  • Moneyline (ML): Orioles -156 (bet $156 to win $100) | Rays +132 (bet $100 to win $132)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Orioles -1.5 (+114) | Rays +1.5 (-137)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 7.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 4, Rays 2

Moneyline.

PASS.

The Orioles (-156) will complete the 4-game sweep of the Rays. However, I’ll AVOID paying the juice and wager on the Orioles’ run line at plus-money.

Run line/Against the spread

BET ORIOLES -1.5 (+114).

Burnes has been everything the Orioles wanted after trading for him this offseason from the Brewers. He has been the lock-down ace at the top of their rotation they were looking for. He hasn’t lost a start since 6 starts ago (May 7), going 3-0 with a 1.41 ERA (32 IP, 5 ER) in his last 5 outing. This will continue in his 1st career start vs. the Rays Monday.

The Rays are 20-28 vs. righties with a .225 team batting average, which ranks 25th in the majors.

As mentioned, Baltimore has dominated Tampa Bay this season, winning 5 of the 6 head-to-head matchups and outscoring the Rays 35-15.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Lean Under 7.5 (-115), but I don’t see an edge to officially making a strong recommendation. The O/U is 2-1 in the last 3 games and 3-3 in the 6 head-to-head meetings this season.

The Under is 4-1 when umpire Chris Conroy is behind the plate, and he’s expected to be calling balls and strikes at the Trop for this series finale.

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Baltimore Orioles (40-22) and Tampa Bay Rays (31-32) play the 2nd game of a 4-game series Saturday. First pitch from Tropicana Field is slated for 4:10 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Orioles vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 3-1

Baltimore won 6-3 over the Rays in St. Petersburg Friday. Five of the Orioles’ 6 runs came on homers from 1B Ryan Mountcastle, RF Anthony Santander, and 2B Jordan Westburg. LHP Cole Irvin earned his 6th win (5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 3 R, 8 H, 0 BB, 6 K). RHP Craig Kimbrel picked up his 13th save of the season.

The Rays had their 3-game win streak snapped by the Orioles. Starting RHP Aaron Civale lost his 4th straight decision after allowing 4 ER on 7 hits in 5 innings. CF Jose Siri went 2-for-3 with a solo HR, 2 runs scored and a walk.

Orioles at Rays projected starters

RHP Kyle Bradish vs. RHP Taj Bradley

Bradish (1-0, 3.18 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.31 WHIP, 4.4 BB/9 and 12.7 K/9 in 28 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 2 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 6 K in 9-5 home victory over Rays June 1
  • 2024 road splits: 1-0, 1.06 ERA, 17 IP, 2 ER, 8 H, 7 BB, 26 K in 3 starts

Bradley (1-3, 5.81 ERA) makes his 6th start. He has a 1.25 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 10.9 K/9 in 26 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 3 1/3 IP, 9 ER, 9 H, 3 BB, 3 K in 9-5 setback at Orioles June 1
  • 2024 home splits: 0-2, 3.00 ERA, 18 IP, 6 ER, 11 H, 5 BB, 23 K in 3 starts

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 7, Rays 2

Moneyline.

PASS.

The Orioles (-136) should handle the Rays without much drama Saturday. As confident as I am, I’ll avoid paying the juice and put my wager on the Orioles’ run line.

Run line/Against the spread

BET ORIOLES -1.5 (+126).

We had this same pitching matchup in Baltimore June 1. Both pitchers struggled, but Bradley took the worse beating. The Rays have been better on the road than at home on the season, sitting 17-19 at Tropicana Field.

In Bradish’s 5 previous starts before Tampa, he had allowed only 5 total earned runs (25 2/3 IP). Tampa Bay is hitting .229 against righties with a record of 20-26 on the season.

Over/Under

PASS.

My lean is to the Over, but I don’t see an edge to officially make a recommendation. They are 3-3 against the Over in their last 6 head-to-head matchups.

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Baltimore Orioles (39-22) take on the Tampa Bay Rays (31-31) Friday in the opener of a 4-game set at Tropicana Field at 6:50 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Orioles vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 2-1

The Orioles dropped the last 2 against the Toronto Blue Jays to split a 4-game set. They’re 6-4 in their last 10 and trail the New York Yankees by 4½ games in the AL East. SS Gunnar Henderson is tied for 2nd with 19 homers in the AL and is a prime candidate for MVP thus far.

The Rays had Thursday off after winning their 3rd straight game with a 5-3 W over the Miami Marlins. They’re 13 back in the division and 2 back from a Wild Card spot. SS Jose Caballero has been a bright spot for them. He’s only hitting .261 but is tied for 2nd in baseball with 21 stolen bases.

Orioles at Rays projected starters

LHP Cole Irvin vs. RHP Aaron Civale

Irvin (5-2, 2.84 ERA) makes his 10th start and 12th appearance. He has a 1.16 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 5.8 K/9 in 57 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 8 H, 1 BB, 1 K in 4-3 home loss Sunday against Rays
  • 4 career starts vs. Tampa: 1-2, 3.65 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 14 K in 24 2/3 IP

Civale (2-4, 5.37 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 1.34 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 8.7 K/9 in 62 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K in 3-1 loss May 31 at Orioles
  • 4 career starts vs. O’s: 2-0, 5.48 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 17 K in 21 1/3 IP

  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Orioles -1.5 (+155) | Rays +1.5 (-190)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 4, Rays 3

Moneyline

The Rays don’t do anything particularly well with a .236 BA (tied for 18th in MLB), 4.0 runs/game (23rd) and 4.30 ERA (24th). They’re also just 17-18 at home. Irvin has a 1.30 ERA over his last 7 starts, and while Civale has been better in his last 2 GS, he has not been effective all year.

Take the ORIOLES -105.

Run line/Against the spread

I’m not interested in either side of the RL. But I will take COLE IRVIN OVER 17.5 OUTS (-110). He has gone 6+ innings in all 4 of his career starts against Tampa, and he has gone 6+ in 4 of 6 starts overall.

Over/Under

The Over is just 3-7 in the last 10 meetings between the teams. Tampa is 5-5 O/U in its last 10, and the O’s are 6-3-1. Two of the 3 games in Baltimore, a hitters’ park, went Under this number a few days ago.

I’ll take the UNDER 8.5 (-105).

The Baltimore Orioles (60-38) conclude a 4-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays (61-41) Sunday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is set for 1:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Orioles vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 5-3

In Saturday’s 6-5 victory over the Rays, the Orioles produced 5 ER on Rays’ ace LHP Shane McClanahan. Baltimore has won 7 of its last 10 games and is now 1 game ahead of Tampa Bay atop the AL East.

Despite losing on Saturday, SS Wander Franco had 3 RBIs and OF Randy Arozarena stole his 11th base of the season. Tampa Bay is 4-6 in its last 10 games.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

RHP Tyler Wells vs. RHP Taj Bradley

Wells (7-5, 3.54 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 0.98 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 in 106 2/3 innings.

  • Has given up 2 ER or more in 8 consecutive starts
  • June 21 at Rays: Lost, 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K in 7-2 setback

Bradley (5-6, 5.29 ERA) makes his 15th start. He has a 1.39 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 12.1 K/9 in 66 1/3 innings.

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 5, Rays 4

Moneyline

Given Bradley’s recent struggles, and how these teams have performed recently, I’ll back the ORIOLES (+115) on the road. Tampa Bay has cooled off at home in recent series, while Baltimore has won 7 of its last 10 road games.

Run line/Against the spread

Even though I have the Orioles winning outright on Sunday against their AL East foes, I’ll PASS on their run line at the current odds (-175).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 8.5 (-110).

Wells has surrendered multiple ER in 8 straight starts and Bradley has struggled to limit runs in recent starts. The Orioles are 7-3 to the Over in their last 10 games overall. And the Rays have achieved the Over in 32 of their last 53 games at home.

Season series: Orioles lead 4-3

The Orioles picked up a 4-3 victory in the series opener Thursday, but the Rays responded with a 3-0 win on Friday night behind 7 scoreless IP from RHP Zach Eflin. The teams remain tied for the top spot in the AL East, although the O’s are technically ahead due to a better winning percentage (.608 vs. .604).

The Orioles are a solid 10-3 across the past 13 games overall, while going 13-6 in the previous 19 contests inside the AL East.

The Rays snapped a 5-game losing skid with the shutout win. It was the 1st shutout victory since June 6 against the Minnesota Twins, and the 10th shutout win overall for the Rays. Tampa Bay has recorded 7 shutout wins at home, too. The Rays also blanked the Orioles 3-0 in Baltimore back on May 8 behind Saturday’s starter, All-Star LHP Shane McClanahan.

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Orioles 2

Moneyline

The Rays (-185) are just a tad bit pricey for my liking, as I usually like to set a personal moneyline limit of -180 for a singular play. Plus, Tampa Bay is a little on the risky side, since it has won just 4 of the past 16 games overall.

AVOID, and look to the run line instead.

Run line/Against the spread

The RAYS -1.5 (+115) are priced a little more reasonably on the run line. While yes, just 4 victories in the past 16 games overall is a problem, Tampa Bay has won each of those 4 games by 2 or more runs. So if you like the Rays to win, you should also like them to cash on the run line.

Over/Under

UNDER 7.5 (-105) is the lean, but go lightly.

While Rodriguez did a solid job shutting down the Rays in his first start against them in May, I don’t think he can replicate those numbers in St. Pete. However, I feel good about McClanahan doing a good job on his home field.

We had just 3 total runs in this battle of AL East titans on Friday, and we should see a 3rd Under result in as many games in this series on Saturday.

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Baltimore Orioles (59-37) and Tampa Bay Rays (60-40) play the 2nd game of a 4-game set at Tropicana Field Friday. First pitch is at 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Orioles vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 4-2

The Orioles outlasted Tampa in a 4-3 thriller in 10 innings Thursday to take a 1-game lead in the AL East. The win knocked Tampa out of the top spot they’ve held all year after they won their 1st 13 games to open the season. Baltimore is 8-2 over its last 10 games. The O’s are equally as tough on the road with a 29-17 mark and a 30-20 record at home.

The Rays have lost 5 straight and are just 7-13 over their last 20 games. This is the 1st real test for them this year after such a torrid start. One glaring note is they are just 14-18 in 1-run games. Their bullpen ERA is 10th at 3.82, and they will likely need to address that at the trade deadline.

Orioles at Rays projected starters

RHP Kyle Bradish vs. RHP Zach Eflin

Bradish (6-4, 3.05 ERA) makes his 18th start. He has a 1.13 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 in 91 1/3 innings.

  • Last 7 starts: 4-2, 1.87 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 46 K’s in 43 1/3 IP
  • Last start vs. Rays: Win, 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 8 K on June 20

Eflin (10-5, 3.59 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.03 WHIP, 1.3 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 in 105 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 3 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 0 K Sunday at Kansas City Royals
  • 3 career starts vs. Orioles: 1-2, 4.74 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 20 K in 19 IP

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 4, Rays 2

Moneyline

The O’s have a big advantage on the hill Friday as Bradish has allowed just 1 ER in 19 1/3 IP over his last 3 starts. Meanwhile, Eflin has a 4.66 ERA in his last 7 starts and has allowed at least 2 ER in each. Bradish had an ERA near 6 in May, and this is the best he has pitched in his career.

I’m taking the ORIOLES +130.

Run line/Against the spread

The O’s are 35-11 on the RL on the road, which is just crazy. Tampa is 35-16 at home overall, but just 27-24 on the RL. They’re also bad in 1-run games.

So I’ll take the ORIOLES +1.5 (-155), which seems like a bit of a bargain.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The O’s are 6-3-1 O/U over the last 10 games, and Tampa is 2-8. The Over is just 4-6 over the last 10 in this matchup. The Orioles are going to score at least 3. They have done so in their last 10 games. However, with Bradish dealing on the hill, I’m not sure Tampa scores enough to get this Over the total.

I’ll LEAN UNDER 8 (-105).

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Baltimore Orioles (58-37) and Tampa Bay Rays (60-39) open a pivotal 4-game AL East series Thursday as they jockey for positioning atop the division. First pitch from Tropicana Field will be 6:40 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Orioles vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Orioles lead 3-2

The Orioles beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 Wednesday to avoid being swept in the 3-game series. Baltimore has been on a tear lately, even after dropping 2 of 3 against Los Angeles, as it entered on an 8-game win streak. The O’s surging offense has helped the cause and ranks 8th in runs scored (473) this season.

The Rays have sputtered coming out of the All-Star break, going 2-4 in their last 6 games — including a current 4-game losing skid after being swept by the Texas Rangers in 3 games to start the week. Tampa Bay still owns the best ERA in baseball (3.73) and is 4th in runs scored (526).

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays projected starters

RHP Kyle Gibson vs. RHP Tyler Glasnow

Gibson (9-6, 4.77 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.35 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9 and 7.0 K/9 through 115 IP.

  • Is tied for the MLB lead with 20 starts
  • Has allowed at least 4 earned runs in 4 of his last 5 turns

Glasnow (3-3, 3.78 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 13.4 K/9 through 47 2/3 IP.

  • The Rays are 5-4 in his 9 starts
  • Has allowed just 1 earned run in 3 of his last 4 starts, going at least 5 innings in all 4 appearances

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Orioles 2

Moneyline

These 2 teams are tied for the lead in the AL East, which makes this a huge series. The Rays (-185) have been the better team all season long and I think they’ll get back on track with a stud like Glasnow on the mound after getting swept by the Rangers.

However, the value just isn’t there with this moneyline price, especially against a quality team in the Orioles.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Gibson has struggled as of late, allowing at least 4 runs in 4 of his last 5 starts. That doesn’t bode well for the Orioles, who are facing a potent Rays lineup and an ace in Glasnow.

After passing on the ML, I’m comfortable with the Rays covering. Tampa has 5 wins in Glasnow starts, and they were all by at least 2 runs.

BET RAYS -1.5 (+110).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Eight or more runs have been scored only once in Glasnow’s last 4 starts. He should be able to limit the Orioles’ offense, but the bigger question is whether Gisbon can do the same against the Rays.

As long as Gibson can give Baltimore a quality start, the total on this game should go Under, as it has in 3 of the first 5 meetings of the season between these teams.

BET UNDER 8 (-105).

The Orioles rolled up an 8-6 victory in the series opener Tuesday night as moderate underdogs (+150) while the Over (7.5) connected. Baltimore fired out of the chute with a 6-0 lead after 2 innings and finished with 10 total hits.

RHP Tyler Wells vs. RHP Taj Bradley

Orioles at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 5, Rays 4

Moneyline

The ORIOLES (+125) are a decent play as short road ‘dogs in the series finale.

Baltimore has won 10 of its last 12 games inside the AL East and is 6-2 in its last 8 games against teams with a right-handed starting pitcher.

The Rays have dropped 3 in a row, and it might not get better Wednesday. Tampa Bay has won just 3 of its last 13 in Game 2 of a series.

Run line/Against the spread

The ORIOLES +1.5 (-160) aren’t priced out of line if you’d like a little insurance and don’t trust them straight up for some reason.

While the O’s are just 12-39 in the past 51 trips to St. Petersburg, Baltimore did win an impressive game Tuesday. The Rays are skidding a little bit, and the time is now to play the ‘dogs.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The lean is to the OVER 8.5 (-105).

Bradley has been very giving at home, and the Orioles are racking up 4.97 runs per game this season to rank 8th in MLB. On the flip side, the O’s are just so-so in the pitching department, yielding 4.19 runs per game to check in 16th.

The Over is also 6-1 in the past 7 meetings between these teams at The Trop, including Tuesday’s high-scoring affair in the series opener.
