The safety position may be in line to take another big hit this week. As first reported by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye was arrested Thursday morning on accusations of aggravated assault with a firearm. The free agent addition already has another court case outstanding as well.

Maye was arrested in Feb. 2021 and charged with a DUI and property damage. His court case for those charges has been delayed until November. The potential here with additional charges could be catastrophic for the Saints’ back end on defense. This news comes just two days after nickel safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

It’s a wait-and-see game from here. But if New Orleans must be without Maye for any time in 2022, they have the depth to make up for it. Especially with the recent addition of Justin Evans who, if he stays healthy, could be in line for a lot of playing time.

Charges against Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy dismissed

Charges against Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy from a May 12 dispute with his girlfriend have been dropped.

The Arapahoe County District Attorney’s office field a motion to dismiss all charges against Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy on Tuesday and a judge signed the motion, dropping all charges, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Jeudy was arrested on May 12 and charged of second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer, but Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown later clarified Jeudy did not make any physical contact during a dispute with his girlfriend that preceded the arrest.

Jeudy was accused of withholding items including a wallet, paperwork and baby formula from his girlfriend after the woman took one of his phones. She then called police and Jeudy was arrested, spending one night in jail before being released on personal recognizance bond the next day.

Technically, the NFL could still hand down its own discipline under the league’s personal conduct policy, but the charges against Jeudy being dropped would seemingly make league discipline less likely.

Jeudy, 23, was picked by Denver in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Alabama. He’s caught 90 passes for 1,323 yards and three touchdowns through two seasons (26 games) in Denver.

Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett indicated on May 13 that the team plans to move past the incident.

“I had an opportunity to talk with Jerry, and we’re going to move forward from this,” Hackett said. “We’re going to learn from it as a team. That’s what it’s all about. There’s adversity, and it’s how we respond from that adversity. So I think that’s so important. Things happen, and we just have to learn from them.”

Denver will continue organized team activities on June 1, June 3, June 6-7 and June 9-10 before holding a mandatory minicamp from June 13-15. Players will then get a summer break before reporting back to the facility for the start of training camp in late July.

Jerry Jeudy arrest: Everything we know

Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy was released on PR bond on Friday. He is scheduled to return to court on May 31.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was arrested by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office on Thursday afternoon and charged of second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer. Here’s what we know about the situation.

Updates on former Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy’s arrest

The latest updates regarding former Alabama star WR Jerry Jeudy’s Thursday arrest.

Former Alabama wide receiver [autotag]Jerry Jeudy[/autotag] is about to enter his third season in the NFL with the Denver Broncos after being drafted by the franchise at No. 15 overall in the 2020 NFL draft. On Thursday, news broke that he was arrested in Arapahoe County, Colorado.

Jeudy was arrested around noon on May 13 just outside of Denver and charges were not yet known to the public, as he had yet to be booked.

USA TODAY Sports Denver Broncos beat writer Parker Gabriel reported on the arrest, but the Arapahoe County Sheriffs’ Office later shared the charges.

The sheriff’s office tweeted out the charges, which include “[second] degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer.” The charge is a misdemeanor. Because of the “no bond hold,” Jeudy will be detained until he can see a judge.

Gabriel reports,

“According to a police report submitted to the Arapahoe County court, Jeudy’s girlfriend, Antoinette Tharp, told a deputy that ‘things got crazy’ with Jeudy on Wednesday night and he put her wallet and medical paperwork for their infant child in his car at their home so she could not get them.”

Law enforcement stated that Jeudy cooperated at all times and the incident at no point had physical violence taken place.

Broncos General Manager Nathaniel Hackett briefly spoke on Jeudy’s arrest after it was made public.

“Right now, it’s an unfortunate incident. We’re trying to gather as much information as we possibly can,” Hackett said. “We take these situations very seriously. We want to be sure we get all the information, we want to talk with Jerry, we want to be there for him and make sure we do all the right things.”

Jeudy is scheduled to see a judge early Friday morning.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow along and share updates as they become available.

Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy taken into custody by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office

Not the kind of news you want to hear.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was taken into custody by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office on Thursday, Zach Bye of 104.3 The Fan first reported Thursday afternoon.

Because Jeudy has not been booked yet, there’s been no word so far on charges, according to Parker Gabriel of USA TODAY Sports. At the time of this writing, Jeudy is in the Arapahoe County Jail in Centennial.

Jeudy, 23, was selected by the Broncos in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Alabama. He’s struggled to live up to his first-round potential so far due in large part to the team’s quarterback play over the last two years — he’s played with Drew Lock, Jeff Driskel, Brett Rypien, Kendall Hinton and Teddy Bridgewater.

With Russell Wilson now in Denver, Jeudy has been expected to take a step forward in his career this fall, but it obviously remains to be seen how much Thursday’s development will impact the receiver’s 2022 season.

Marcus Maye recovering from Achilles injury but facing possible DUI suspension

New Saints safety Marcus Maye is recovering well from an Achilles injury, but he’s facing a possible suspension following a 2021 DUI charge:

Well this puts a dampener on things. The New Orleans Saints are going to get a good player once Marcus Maye is medically cleared from his Nov. 2021 Achilles injury; NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reports that the expectation is Maye will be ready to go in training camp. Maye agreed to sign a three-year contract valued at up to $28.5 million with New Orleans once he becomes a free agent on Wednesday, March 16 at the start of the new NFL fiscal year.

Unfortunately, health is only half of the issues with Maye’s availability. Maye is also facing potential NFL discipline stemming from a Feb. 2021 arrest in Florida, in which he was charged with driving under the influence. Six weeks later he was charged with driving with a suspended license. Court proceedings have been slow, with his latest appearance rescheduled for June 1.

The precedent for a DUI-related suspension suggests Maye could be suspended two or three games during the 2022 season, as was the case for Saints wide receiver Deonte Harty in 2021 (who missed three games) and defensive back P.J. Williams in 2019 (who missed two). These suspensions are typically not handed out until the court hands down its judgment, so it may take a while to clear up. That’s disappointing, but hopefully the 29-year-old learned from the experience and will avoid finding trouble moving forwards.

Alvin Kamara could face 6-game suspension after Las Vegas arrest

Alvin Kamara could face 6-game suspension after Las Vegas arrest, per NFL personal conduct policy:

[mm-video type=video id=01fvba9pyfypgkhf0wpv playlist_id=01eqbyahgz6p2j3xp7 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fvba9pyfypgkhf0wpv/01fvba9pyfypgkhf0wpv-71e6a7d8f83dc3d0644d5744a092f38f.jpg]

This situation with Alvin Kamara isn’t looking any better by the day. After being arrested in Las Vegas — picked up by police at Allegiant Stadium following the Pro Bowl — and released from custody upon posting bail, the next step is considering whether the New Orleans Saints running back will face any league discipline in addition to, you know, legal penalties.

It’s important to note that Kamara has not yet been charged with a crime. He was booked in on suspicion of battery causing substantial physical harm; police say the victim was diagnosed with a fractured orbital bone which may require surgery. The courts will circle back to this investigation in March and choose how to proceed. If formally charged and convicted of this, a felony in Nevada, it would carry a mandatory $10,000 fine and sentencing of between one and five years in prison.

But the NFL can choose to suspend Kamara for at least six games regardless of what the courts decide. The league office will conduct its own independent investigation to determine whether Kamara’s conduct violated the league personal conduct policy, which says of violent offenses including assault and battery, “a first offense will subject the offender to a baseline suspension without pay of six games, with consideration given to any aggravating or mitigating factors.”

So that’s obviously not great. The Saints fielded the worst offense in the NFL last year when Kamara missed time with an injury — he’s quite literally their best player regardless of position. If they don’t make some big investments at the skills positions in the months ahead, they risk starting the Dennis Allen with more of the same stale offense that defined Sean Payton’s last year in New Orleans.

On the other hand, there’s some precedent for a different suspension here than that six-game baseline. As observed by Amy Dash at League of Justice, Antonio Brown was suspended eight games not too long ago stemming from battery charges on a truck driver. On the other end of the spectrum, Tyreek Hill was not suspended after an investigation into alleged battery on his son resulted in no criminal charges. It’s possible Kamara ultimately dodges a suspension, depending on how this investigation turns out. It’s just too early to say anything definitively.

However, we know the stakes involved. We know what’s at risk. Seeing Kamara miss the first month or two of the 2022 season due to something so easily avoidable would be tough to swallow. For now, all we can do is wait and watch to see what happens next.

New details emerge on Alvin Kamara incident report

New details emerge on Alvin Kamara incident report; court appearance rescheduled for March

[mm-video type=video id=01fvb29f5yww7d0fb8hd playlist_id=01eqbyahgz6p2j3xp7 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fvb29f5yww7d0fb8hd/01fvb29f5yww7d0fb8hd-e525d4a4e9e2a2f48a56906e8939b5ee.jpg]

Las Vegas police have shared more information from their report on the incident involving Alvin Kamara this weekend, in which the New Orleans Saints running back was arrested following the 2022 Pro Bowl game at Allegiant Stadium. Police say Kamara has been fully cooperative with their investigation, and that he was picked up at the stadium following the game on Sunday afternoon.

Additionally, Las Vegas police claim that surveillance video from the venue in which Kamara is accused of assaulting a man, Darnell Greene, supports the victim’s account of events though it has not been made publicly available. Greene states in the police report that he started a conversation with a member of Kamara’s party and was stopped from boarding an elevator by Kamara, who he believes shoved him to the ground, at which point a group of people hit and kicked him until he lost consciousness. He was later diagnosed with an orbital fracture which may require surgery.

Kamara is also quoted in the police report as identifying each member of his group in surveillance photos, though he says Greene was approached them and called one of his friends ugly while threatening to fight them. Kamara allegedly adds that he didn’t throw the first punch, he did get involved once “he saw a fight break out next to him.” Additionally, Kamara says he thought Greene was fleeing from the fight and pursued him, punching Greene several times. The police report counters by claiming video shows Greene did not run away.

So what happens next? Kamara posted the $5,000 bond to leave custody on Sunday, and his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday afternoon has been postponed to March 8. He faces a charge of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm, which is a felony in Nevada and carries a possible prison sentence of between one and five years, with a mandatory $10,000 fine pending conviction. It’s unclear what, if any, penalty or suspension the NFL will hand to him at this early stage in the process.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was arrested in Las Vegas on Sunday evening and charged with battery that police say caused “substantial bodily harm” to the victim, stemming from an incident at a local nightclub on Saturday. He’s currently scheduled to appear before a judge at 1:30 p.m. PT on Monday. His bond was set at $5,000.

This comes just hours after Kamara participated in the 2022 Pro Bowl event at Allegiant Stadium. It was Kamara’s fourth trip to the Pro Bowl in as many seasons he’s played in the NFL, so this is obviously a high-profile situation. Stay tuned for updates.

Chiefs release CB Damon Arnette from reserve/future contract following arrest

Less than two weeks after signing him to a reserve/future contract, the #Chiefs have released former #Raiders CB Damon Arnette.

The Kansas City Chiefs gave former Las Vegas Raiders CB Damon Arnette a second chance and he’s already gone and blown it.

Arnette signed a reserve/future deal with Kansas City just nine days ago. The former first-round draft pick was released by the Raiders earlier in the 2021 NFL season after an online video of him brandishing a weapon and making threats went viral. When the Chiefs signed Arnette to the reserve/future contract, it was met with criticism. Not two weeks later and the team knows exactly why the signing was criticized.

On Friday, Arnette was arrested in Las Vegas on a litany of charges including assault with a deadly weapon.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs released Arnette from his reserve/future contract immediately following his arrest. Thankfully, this happened prior to Arnette having a chance to join the team. As a reserve/future signing, he doesn’t count toward the active roster until March 16, when the new league year begins. It’s also probably for the best that the team got this out of the way now rather than at a point when they were actually relying on him to play and contribute.

The Chiefs were hoping to find a nice reclamation project in Arnette, instead, they found themselves a headache. With a few departures expected at the cornerback position this offseason, Kansas City will need to look for reserve/future talent elsewhere.
