Ranking the Oklahoma Sooners opponents on the 2023 schedule

From the Red River Showdown on down, ranking Oklahoma’s opponents for the 2023 season.

The Oklahoma Sooners have won more Big 12 titles than the rest of the conference combined. They have a shot to add to that number before packing up their hardware and rolling off to the SEC.

But they’ll have to navigate a Big 12 schedule that has been bumpy for the Sooners over the last two seasons, keeping them out of the Big 12 title game.

The Big 12 has become a league marked by parity in recent seasons, leading to a different Big 12 champion in each of the last three seasons. Six teams have participated in the conference title game in the last three seasons, and the conference looks just as wide open as last year.

But the schedule is doable. Oklahoma has some tough road games, but the Sooners should be favored when they go on the road to face Cincinnati, BYU and Oklahoma State.

But which team will be the toughest for the Oklahoma Sooners? Let’s take a look at each opponent from easiest to toughest.

Oklahoma Sooners full 2023 football schedule released

The official Oklahoma Sooners 2023 football schedule.

The Oklahoma Sooners 2023 schedule is official with the release of the Big 12 schedule on Tuesday afternoon.

The entrance of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF, and the departure of Oklahoma and Texas provided intrigue to this years’ schedule release. Conference realignment disrupted the natural flow of home dates for the Big 12.

After some initial delay, first-year commissioner Brett Yormark has his first schedule in an expanded Big 12.

We’ve known the nonconference schedule for sometime, though there was an adjustment on the fly after Georgia and Oklahoma mutually agreed to cancel their nonconference home and home with the Sooners moving to the SEC in 2025 at the latest. Joe Castiglione replaced the Bulldogs with SMU on the fly to provide the Sooners a solid Group of Five foe.

With an expanded Big 12 for at least this season, here’s a look at the Oklahoma Sooners 2023 football schedule.

Late run helps LSU basketball pull away from Arkansas State

The Tigers moved to 2-0 on the McMahon era, though it was close once again.

The Tigers got to 2-0 on the young 2022-23 college basketball season on Saturday, though each of those wins has been a bit shaky.

The latest, a 61-52 win over the Arkansas State Red Wolves, was a five-point game at halftime. ASU cut that deficit to as little as two in the second half, but an 11-0 run for the Tigers helped them pull away to maintain their perfect start to the [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] era.

It was another huge game offensively for [autotag]Adam Miller[/autotag], who missed all of last season with a torn ACL before the year. He totaled 26 points on 9 of 15 shooting, leading the team in scoring for the second game in a row. However, the team struggled a bit outside of Miller, shooting just 39.2 percent.

Two other LSU players scored in double figures in [autotag]Justice Hill[/autotag] (11 points) and [autotag]KJ Williams[/autotag] (15 points). The Tigers were also the beneficiary of 16 turnovers, which led to 23 points. They were out-rebounded in this game by a 35-34 margin, however.

The Tigers struggled against Red Wolves forward Omar El-Sheikh, who led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds. However, ASU shot even worse than LSU as a team at just 38.6%.

Early struggles are not unexpected for a team with a new coaching staff and so many fresh faces. The Tigers will hope for a more convincing win in their next outing against New Orleans at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Thursday night.

Hear everything opposing coach Butch Jones said about Ohio State after the #Buckeyes victory.

The Ohio State football team probably didn’t have the showing it wanted against a Sun Belt opponent, the Arkansas State Red Wolves, but it was a comfortable win nonetheless. In fact, the Buckeyes (2-0) have every goal still on the table.

We like to keep tabs on what the opposing coaches say after facing Ohio State, and Red Wolves head coach Butch Jones is no stranger to elite talent. He coached in the SEC at Tennessee and has seen some very good teams with an abundance of talent and skill.

We’ve got everything Jones said about the Buckeyes following the 45-12 loss his team experienced, and he was very complimentary of the opposite sideline. If you’d like to hear everything Jones said about the challenge of playing OSU, the respect for Ryan Day, how his team fought in the first half, and more, you can head over to kait8.com, the ABC affiliate in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

If you want the comments and video from the home Ohio State sideline and head coach Ryan Day, we have that, too.

Ohio State is 2-0 after a mixed yet ultimately successful outing against Arkansas State. There are things to clean up, but the Buckeyes won rather comfortably, 45-12, and compiled 500 yards of offense.

As he does every game, head coach Ryan Day met with the media to answer questions and react to what his team did on the field. He wasn’t in the best of moods, but he was satisfied to be 2-0 and optimistic about things moving forward.

Best photos of Ohio State football’s win over Arkansas State

Check out some of the best photos of Ohio State’s win over Arkansas State Saturday. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team was back in action for its second game of the year on Saturday against Arkansas State. There are still some things to clean up, but the offense looked much more explosive than what it did against Notre Dame last week with a 45-12 victory.

Yeah, it was against a Sun Belt team that won’t likely give many top-end Power Five teams trouble, but this season is all about improving and moving forward with the hopes of being championship caliber when it matters.

As always, the USA TODAY cameras were on hand to catch some of the best high-resolution photos from the game, and we like to bring those to you at the conclusion of each Ohio State football game.

Five things we think we learned from Ohio State’s win over Arkansas State

Instant reaction and five things we think we learned about Ohio State after the victory over Arkansas State. #GoBucks

That’s more like it from the Ohio State offense. After putting up just 21 points against Notre Dame last Saturday, C.J. Stroud and his wide receiving corps lit it up and put up a bushel of points and yards against the Red Wolves in a 45-12 win.

Now, it wasn’t a coaching clinic by any means — there are plenty of things to clean up — but it should calm at least some of the whispers and negativity coming from the national media about the Buckeyes’ offensive showing in the first game of the season.

There are plenty of observations and takeaways from this one, and we get paid to bring them to you, so it’s time to earn the paycheck. Here are five things we think we learned about Ohio State’s showing against the Arkansas State Red Wolves Saturday afternoon.
