Texas A&M expands Blue Bell Park capacity ahead of SEC matchup vs. No. 2 Arkansas

With a Top 5 matchup set to take place this weekend, the Aggies have expanded the capacity for fans to attend the series at Blue Bell Park.

With a pivotal Top 5 matchup set to take place this weekend, Texas A&M has expanded the capacity for the upcoming series at Blue Bell Park.

The No. 4 Aggies will host No. 2 Arkansas to conclude the regular season. Texas A&M desperately needs a boost of momentum after losing its last two sets on the road at LSU and Ole Miss, respectively.

Section 12 at Olsen Field has been revamped ahead of the series versus the Razorbacks. Bleachers have been placed in left center field to add about 250 more seats to the ballpark. General admission seats for that area will be sold at the box office on game day, two hours prior to first pitch. Presales for the lawn, general admission and standing room only have closed.

Weather permitting, the Aggies begin the three-game set Thursday evening at 7 p.m. According to Ryan Brauninger of TexAgs, if the series opener is postponed, a doubleheader would be scheduled for Friday, meaning Texas A&M would have its third conference double-dip in a span of five weeks.

Texas A&M Baseball’s pitching lineup vs. Arkansas has been announced

Texas A&M’s pitching rotation for the season finale series vs. Arkansas has been announced

Showing remarkable resilience, Texas A&M (42-10. 17-10 SEC) bounced back on Sunday against the Ole Miss Rebels, delivering a 6-0 shutout win. This victory, just a week after a tough loss to LSU, is a testament to the team’s unwavering spirit.

Wasting Ryan Prager’s ten-strikeout performance on Friday night, Justin Lamkin took the bump on Saturday only to give up five runs in 1.2 innings. The Rebels put up double-digit runs in a 10-2 blowout over the visitors to take the series, as the Aggies looked confused and borderline uninspired.

However, sophomore lefty Shane Sdao made his first start of the season on Sunday, setting career highs in strikeouts (7) and hits allowed (3) while earning Co-SEC Player of the Week honors in the process. He deserves most of the credit for the 6-0 victory.

This weekend, the No. 4-ranked Aggies will finish out the regular season against the visiting No. 2-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks (42-10, 19-8 SEC), as head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s squad still has a shot at the SEC West title with a sweep this weekend. Ahead of Game 1 on Thursday, here is the starting pitching lineup:

  • Game 1 (Friday): Ryan Prager (8-1, 95 SO, 2.71 ERA)
  • Game 2 (Saturday): TBA
  • Game 3 (Sunday): Shane Sdao (4-1, 46 SO, 2.03 ERA)

Texas A&M returns to Blue Bell Park to take on Arkansas. Game 1 is set for Thursday, May 16, and will air at 7:00 p.m. CT. on ESPN2.

No. 2 Texas A&M baseball team avoids sweep at Ole Miss with shutout victory led by Shane Sdao

The Aggies avoided a potential disastrous sweep on Sunday evening at Swayze Field against SEC rival Ole Miss with a 6-0 shutout victory.

The Texas A&M baseball team avoided a potential disastrous sweep on Sunday night at Swayze Field against SEC rival Ole Miss.

The No. 2 Aggies (42-10, 17-17 SEC) shutout the Rebels by a final score of 6-0. Texas A&M scored 3 runs in the sixth inning and 1 in each of the third, seventh and ninth.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Shane Sdao (4-1) led the Aggies to the win. He tossed 7.0 scoreless frames and allowed 3 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts on 87 pitches. Sdao set a new career-high in innings pitched and strikeouts.

Sunday’s shutout was Texas A&M‘s first since a 9-0 victory versus Vanderbilt on April 13. Graduate student designated hitter Hayden Schott extended his on-base streak to 25 games with 1 hit and 1 walk.

Senior first baseman Ted Burton made his return in the series finale and went 1-for-4 with a double and 2 runs batted in. He has reached base safely in 24 consecutive contests and the multi-RBI game was his 10th of the year.

No. 3 Texas A&M baseball’s series vs. Arkansas will be nationally televised

Texas A&M’s season finale home series vs. Arkansas will be nationally televised!

Texas A&M baseball (40-8, 16-8 SEC) faced a wave of adversity last weekend, losing just their second SEC series on the road to the surging LSU Tigers. However, they managed to avoid the sweep with an emphatic 14-4 Game 3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies are gearing up for some tough battles. They will end the regular season with four out of their last seven games at home, while this weekend’s road test vs. Ole Miss will present a similar challenge to what the Tigers provided, especially on the mound.

However, for those who have had issues streaming A&M’s games recently, it has been revealed that the series finale vs. Arkansas will be nationally televised if fans are unable to attend. On Thursday, May 16, through Saturday, May 18, the Aggies will look to end the conference slate on a high note before entering the SEC Tournament with a likely first-round bye.

  • Game 1: Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. The game will air on ESPN2.
  • Game 2: Friday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. The game will air on SEC Network.
  • Game 3: Saturday, May 18 at 2:00 p,m. The game will air on SEC Network.

Unbeaten Texas A&M moves up 3 spots, yet still trails 2 SEC teams, in week 4 D1 Baseball rankings

The Aggies are one of two remaining undefeated teams in college baseball following a wild extra innings win on Sunday against Rhode Island.

The Texas A&M baseball team is one of two remaining undefeated teams in college baseball following a wild extra innings win on Sunday against Rhode Island, leading to elevation in D1 Baseball’s week four rankings.

The Aggies (16-0) and Florida State (14-0) are the pair of unbeaten teams left in the nation. The Seminoles are not ranked in D1 Baseball‘s latest list but Texas A&M certainly is. After another undefeated week, the Aggies have risen from No. 7 to No. 4.

However, Texas A&M is the third-best team in the SEC according to D1 Baseball. Arkansas (13-2) and LSU (14-2) each moved up one slot to No. 1 & No. 2, respectively, this past week. Oregon State (15-1) leaped three spots, just like the Aggies, from No. 6 to No. 3.

Texas A&M concludes a five-game homestand at Blue Bell Park on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Sam Houston (11-5). The Aggies then hit the road for their first SEC series of the season this weekend, a three-game set at No. 8 Florida (10-5), who dropped four spots in this week’s rankings.

First pitch Friday at Condron Family Ballpark is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Texas A&M is on the verge of being the first double-digit seed to win the SEC Tournament

After defeating Arkansas 5-4 on Saturday afternoon, 10-seed Texas A&M is headed to the SEC Championship game for the first time since 2016.

Texas A&M is by far one of the hottest baseball teams in the country since entering the SEC Tournament earlier this week, winning four out of their last five games against Tennessee (3-0), South Carolina (5-0), LSU (5-4), and finally defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks in a semifinal rematch 5-4 on Saturday afternoon to return to the SEC Championship for the first time since 2016.

Offensively, Jack Moss, Hunter Haas, Trevor Werner, Jace LaViolette, Jordan Thompson, and Ryan Targac have all delivered in all five games this week. Still, the story that will continue into the NCAA Tournament has been the incredible turnaround from the Aggies’ pitching staff.

Not only is this an impressive feat in the toughest conference in the country, but The Aggies also entered the tournament as a 10-seed after ending the regular season with an uninspiring 32-23 (14-16 SEC) record, hoping to net at least one victory to solidify a place in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Well, head coach Jim Schlossnagle and his squad had other plans, led by a pitching rotation that saw exemplary performances from the starters and the bullpen after posting a 5.49 ERA during the regular season.

Against Tennessee, sophomore Troy Wansing struck out seven in 8 IP, followed by a 7.0 IP, 9 K performance from freshman Justin Lamkin against South Carolina. At the same time, veteran southpaw Will Johnston lasted six innings against LSU with 7 Ks, leading to Evan Aschenbeck’s gutsy four-strikeout closing performance to send the Tigers home.

On Saturday, Sam Houston State transfer and longtime Texas A&M fan Matt Dillard started against Arkansas in the Semifinal round. As Schlossnagle hoped to get a couple of innings out of the veteran, Dillard last four solid innings with six strikeouts and only allowing two hits on the day. After freshman Shane Sdao’s 2.2 IP, 5 K performance, the Aggies led 5-1 heading into the Top of the ninth as pitcher Brandyn Garcia’s attempt to close out the game instead led to 3 Arkansas runs, leading to what many would describe as a “storybook moment” when, yes, Troy Wansing entered the game with a man on second and one out.

After striking out Jace Bohrofen, Wansing would face Arkansas outfielder Jared Wagner, who stood at the plate with a comeback on his mind and a 2-2 count. In one more magical moment, Wansing got him swinging to send Arkansas home while vaulting the Maroon and White to Sunday’s title game.

The Aggies will face Vanderbilt in the SEC Championship game on Sunday, May 27, at 2:00 pm CT. on ESPN2.

Twitter reacts to Texas A&M’s 5-4 win over Arkansas in the SEC Tournament Semifinals

No. 10 Texas A&M continued its magical run in the SEC Tournament with a 5-4 win over No. 2 Arkansas on Saturday, officially sending the Hogs home while punching their ticket to the title game on Sunday.

Despite the highs and lows of the regular season, the Maroon and White have effectively put the trials of the past in the rearview mirror as they are arguably playing their best baseball of the season throughout this tournament. And it’s not like they’ve been besting meager foes en route to their success, either.

The Aggies have overcome the likes of No. 7 Tennessee, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 3 LSU, and now No. 2 Arkansas as they seek their first SEC Championship since 2016. While the job is by all means yet finished, the Maroon and White have already added themselves to the history books.

With Saturday’s victory, the No. 10 Aggies become the first double-digit seed in SEC Tournament history to reach the title game.

Following the win, Twitter reacted to the latest chapter of Texas A&M’s stellar run in the tournament. If there’s one common thread among the social media chatter as of late, it’s an agreement that the Aggies are peaking and playing their best ball of the season, and it couldn’t come at a perfect time.

Here are the best social media reactions following Saturday’s semifinals victory:

Game Recap – Baseball: No. 10 Texas A&M vs No. 2 Arkansas (SEC Tournament Semifinals)

Texas A&M baseball is headed to the championship! The Aggies become the first double-digit seed in SEC Tournament history to reach the title game following their 5-4 win over Arkansas.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but a win in the SEC Tournament Semifinals works just as well! In a rematch with No. 2 Arkansas, No. 10 Texas A&M fended off a ninth-inning comeback attempt to eliminate the Hogs with a 5-4 win.

After falling to Arkansas in extra innings in the tournament’s second round, Saturday’s matchup set up a rematch with the Hogs in Hoover. After two scoreless innings to begin the afternoon, the Aggies struck first courtesy of a Trevor Werner double to right center, allowing Hunter Haas to score in the third inning to put A&M up 1-0.

Brady Tygart gave the Aggies everything they could handle with his performance on the mound, recording three strikeouts while allowing three hits and two walks in 3.1 innings.

Following a standstill in the fourth and fifth, a three-run inning by the Aggies in the sixth gave the Maroon and White a commanding 4-0 lead. Haas drew a bases-loaded walk to help extend the lead to 3-0, while Jack Moss followed up with a bases-loaded walk of his own to pick up the RBI to make it 4-0 in the sixth.

But the Hogs would not go down quietly, as Arkansas got one back in the seventh courtesy of a Ben McLaughlin single to left center, allowing Caleb Cali to score and cut the deficit to 4-1. Jace LaViolette provided some insurance by hitting a single and driving home Moss to put the Aggies up 5-1 in the eighth.

And then, an anxiety-filled ninth inning crept up to make Aggies fans sweat down the stretch.

A two-run double by Bolton brought the tying run to the plate with just one out, while the Hogs got another courtesy with runners at first and second. Arkansas cut the deficit to 5-4 in the ninth, with just one out.

And then, Troy Wansing entered to slam the door shut on the Hogs effectively. As the kids these days say, “Wansing is him!”

The southpaw entered the ninth, and with Jared Wagner standing at the plate with a 2-2 count, Wansing got him swinging to send Arkansas packing while propelling the Aggies to the title game.

Texas A&M moves on to the SEC Championship game tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT. They will face the winner of No. 1 Florida and No. 4 Vanderbilt.

Final Score: Aggies 5, Razorbacks 4 – W: Sdao, Shane (3-1), S: Wansing, Troy L: Tygart, Brady (2-1)

Texas A&M baseball fell to Arkansas 6-5 in extra innings Wednesday afternoon, setting up an SEC Tournament elimination game matchup for Thursday morning.

The baseball gods were not in the Aggies’ favor Wednesday afternoon, as No. 10 Texas A&M fell to No. 2 Arkansas with a final score of 6-5 in extra innings.

For a hot minute, the Maroon and White looked like a completely different team from the regular season as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the top of the third inning. Jack Moss got things started with a ground out that allowed Brett Minnich to score.

Not long after with Trevor Werner at bat, the junior singled through the left side for 2 RBIs, allowing Hunter Haas and Max Kaufer to score.

After two scoreless innings, the bottom of the seventh completely tilted the momentum in the Hogs’ favor. With bases loaded, Jared Wegner homered to left field to allow Arkansas to retake the lead, 5-4, on a grand slam.

The Maroon and White flexed their short-term memory, as Austin Bost answered back with a homer to left field to tie the game 5-5 in the ninth. After a scoreless tenth inning, Kendall Diggs would go on to homer to left field in the bottom of the 11th, securing a 6-5 walk-off win for the Razorbacks.
