Texas Baseball: Anticipation builds toward opener against Arkansas

Texas baseball sets out to prove legitimacy in Arlington starting February 17.

There are eight days until Texas Longhorns baseball. The season starts off with a bang.

Texas opens on Feb. 17 at Globe Life Field in Arlington. While there, the Longhorns face perennial powerhouses in Arkansas and Vanderbilt, with Missouri sandwiched in between.

Plenty of questions face the team after several departures to the MLB led by Ivan Melendez. The team will turn to Dylan Campbell to lead the team while in search of replacement production on offense.

Campbell played hero in last season’s baseball tournament, helping send Texas to the College World Series. Undoubtedly, head coach David Pierce will set him up for clutch opportunities again this season.

Tanner Witt is hopeful to return from injury this season. In the interim, Lucas Gordon will serve as the staff ace. Gordon put up a scorching 3.05 ERA last season. Texas will need his best stuff to leave Arlington with a win.

Texas takes on Arkansas at 7 pm CT on Feb. 17.
