Arizona State defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott commits to Vols

Arizona State defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott commits to the Vols.

Arizona State defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott announced his commitment to Tennessee on Monday.

“Home,” Norman-Lott announced on social media referring to Tennessee.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound transfer appeared in 21 games at Arizona State, recording 45 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, four sacks and two pass deflections.

Norman-Lott entered the NCAA transfer portal Dec. 5.

He came to Arizona State from Grant Union High School in Sacramento, California.

The 2023 season will be the third for the Vols under head coach Josh Heupel.

Heupel has compiled an 18-8 (10-6 SEC) record as Tennessee’s head coach from 2021-22. He was hired in Jan. 2021.

Tale of the Tape: Starting QBs – Tyler Buchner vs. Spencer Rattler

A familiar name gets the ball for the Irish in this one.

Notre Dame fans didn’t think they would see [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] for the rest of the season, let alone in the Gator Bowl. But with Buchner healed from an early-season injury and Drew Pyne off to Arizona State, the time has come for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] to trust the man who won the starting job in training camp.

Sadly, we can’t have a complete picture of what Buchner will bring to this game because we haven’t seen him play for three-and-a-half months. Nevertheless, he surely hoped to be leading the Irish in a bowl game at the start of the season, and that hope will come to pass.

Unlike Pyne, Spencer Rattler feels he owes it to South Carolina to play in this game, and he might be entering the NFL draft. Just look at these numbers, and all signs point to him being ready for the next step. That alone gives him the edge in this matchup, though anyone can see that already. The Irish’s defense definitely will have its hands full, and [autotag]Al Golden[/autotag] knows it.

Former Crimson Tide QB, Paul Tyson, to join Clemson Tigers

Paul Tyson commits to Clemson after Arizona State stint

After two years with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Paul Tyson left Tuscaloosa in 2021 via the transfer portal. Tyson was a four-star quarterback coming out of high school and was the No. 321 overall prospect in his class.

Five days after entering the portal Tyson ended up with the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Sun Devils had a tough 2022 campaign and fired their head coach, Herm Edwards, during the season. At the conclusion of the Sun Devils’ regular season, Tyson entered the portal for a second time.

Today, he chose to join Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers. He will likely be competing for a backup role behind the highly anticipated Cade Klubnik.

This is interesting considering some view Clemson as a rival of the Crimson Tide and Paul Tyson is the great-grandson of legendary Alabama head coach Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant.

Former Notre Dame quarterback Drew Pyne finds his new home in the Pac-12

We wish Drew the best

We knew it was coming but not sure where former Irish quarterback [autotag]Drew Pyne[/autotag] would land. When he quickly put his name into the transfer portal after the regular season finished, his intentions were made known to everyone.

Today, Pyne has found his new home, he’s off to [autotag]Arizona State[/autotag] to be a Sun Devil. It was a quick decision for Pyne after making a visit to their campus this past weekend. He will head off to a program with a brand new head coach in [autotag]Kenny Dillingham[/autotag] and one who won just 3 games this past fall. With three years of eligibility remaining and a fresh start with a new coaching staff, Pyne pulled the trigger.

Fortunately, it won’t be hard to imagine what he will look like in an ASU uniform, their colors are fairly close to what the Irish don each Saturday. We wish him the best of luck.

Former Alabama QB Paul Tyson entering transfer portal for second time

Former Alabama QB Paul Tyson has entered the transfer portal for the second time and is looking for a third program.

On Monday, Arizona State quarterback Paul Tyson announced that he will be entering the transfer portal. Tyson formerly played for Alabama from 2019 to 2021.

Tyson is the great-grandson of legendary Alabama head coach Bear Bryant. He joined the Tide as a member of the 2019 recruiting class. The native of Trussville, Alabama served as a backup quarterback in his time with the team. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 150 yards. Following the 2021 season, he entered the transfer portal.

He ultimately chose to transfer out of Alabama to play for Arizona State. However, he played in just one game for the Sun Devils and did not record any stats. Now, he will be looking to transfer to his third destination at the college level.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow former Alabama football players in the transfer portal.

Why Arizona State Will Win

Five straight. 70-7 in 2002. 38-15 last year. Arizona State has a hold on the Territorial Cup and now gets a potentially demoralized Arizona team.

Of course the Wildcats will be jacked for this – they still have to hear about 70-7 – but they went from beating UCLA and having a bowl game there on the table, to now being ensured of a losing season after a disappointing day against Washington State.

The Cat D wasn’t bad against Wazzu, but it hasn’t been a rock, especially against the run. Arizona State has to get grinding right away and control the tempo and the clock.

Last week was a rough 31-7 loss to Oregon State, but the Sun Devils averaged over six yards per carry and should come close to five yards per pop in this. The passing attack was great against Colorado and UCLA, there should be a good balance, and the Arizona defense doesn’t generate the pressure to stop any of it.

But …

Bowl Projections | Bowl Bubble: Who’s Bowl Eligible?

Why Arizona Will Win

Now this becomes Arizona’s bowl game.

Arizona State is a program that’s about to flip around fast over the offseason with a whole lot of changes. Arizona has everything in place and keeps on improving, and this is a next step forward.

No, the defense isn’t anything great, but the offense is about to go off. Washington State’s strong defense was able to win by forcing four takeaways – all picks – but Arizona State doesn’t take the ball away. It hasn’t come up with a turnover in two weeks, and it forced multiple takeaways just twice all year.

The secondary allowed 200 yards or more in every Pac-12 game except the loss to UCLA, and that’s because the Bruins ripped off over 400 yards on the ground. So …

Week 13 College Football Schedule, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

The Arizona offense will go off.

Jayden de Laura will get over the rough day against Wazzu and rip off well over 300 yards without the big mistakes.

Arizona State will keep up with the ground game, but it won’t be enough. The offense will flinch with a few third down misfires, and the Wildcat offense will take advantage of every chance.

Why Oregon State Will Win

The Beavers keep on rolling along.

They’re already bowl eligible, and the game that really matters is next week against Oregon, but they’re in the hunt for a ten-win season if they win the next two games and the bowl.

The offense hasn’t been anything special, but it’s functional. It doesn’t make a ton of mistakes – the turnover problem over the first half of the season cleared up nicely – and the running game is averaging close to five yards per carry.

There doesn’t have to be anything fancy here.

Keep the chains moving against the second-worst defense in America on third downs, assume everyone will get time to work against a solid offensive line that should handle the non-existent ASU pass rush, and continue to bend-without-a-lot-of-breaking on defense.

Bowl Projections

Why Arizona State Will Win

It’s been a disastrous season, but it can end strong with a win in the final home game before going to Arizona for the rivalry showdown.

The team is still pushing. The offense wasn’t awful in the loss to Washington State, the passing attack rocked in the win over Colorado and was strong in the loss to UCLA, and the yards will be there against the Oregon State D.

Can the offense be ultra-efficient through the air? It’s asking for way too much out of quarterbacks Emory Jones and Trenton Bourguet, but the team is 3-1 when connecting on 72% of its passes and 0-6 when it doesn’t

Oregon State’s pass defense can be thrown on, but …

Schedules, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Utah is the only team to get to 70% through the air on the Beavers.

Oregon State will be methodical. The run defense will be a rock, the offense won’t make enough mistakes to matter – the Sun Devil D doesn’t force takeaways – and it’ll get past a few big scoring drives from the home side to get out with a good win.

Arizona State vs Washington State Game Preview

Why Arizona State Will Win

The offense keeps making things interesting.

The Sun Devil season can still be something strong. It might not have been the year everyone wanted, but this is winnable, so is the home game against Oregon State, and so is the season finale against Arizona. Do that, win out, go to a bowl, and this would turn into one the comeback teams of the year.

To do that, the passing game that went of on Colorado and kept it going against UCLA has to bomb away on the Washington State secondary that’s been great so far, but gives up yards against teams that try.

Start throwing, keep throwing, and …

CFP Rankings: Think, Know, Believe

Why Washington State Will Win

The Arizona State defense gives up third down conversions to anyone who wants to try.

There will be an interception – the Sun Devils have picked off a pass in every game – but there’s nothing happening against the decent passing teams, UCLA just ran for over 400 yards, and there’s no pass rush whatsoever to bother Cameron Ward.

Third down conversions have been a problem for the offense. They won’t be this week.

Washington State was able to bust out of a three-game losing streak with the ground game in the 52-14 win over Stanford, and this week everything should work.

Schedules, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Washington State will get bowl eligible as the offense keeps the balance going to go along with a whole lot of big plays.

Arizona State will make it fun. The offense will blow past 200 passing yards, it’ll have the lead for a little while, and it’ll all come apart thanks to the defense that won’t come up with a big stop in the fourth quarter.

Alabama Women’s Soccer receives a No. 1 seed in NCAA tournament

No. 1 Alabama women’s soccer hosts first NCAA tournament game Friday

The Alabama Crimson Tide women’s soccer has received a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, and as a result, the team will have its first game in Tuscaloosa.

The Tide will host Jackson State, the winners of the SWAC, who are 11-7-1 on the year at 6 p.m. CST on Friday.

Alabama finishes the year 19-2-1, including a 15-game winning streak that earned the Tide the No. 1 ranking in the country. Alabama lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks in the SEC championship snapping the streak.

South Carolina is the No. 3 team in Alabama’s region along with No. 2 Duke and No. 4 USC. So, there is a chance the Tide and Gamecocks meet again in the Elite Eight.

If Alabama can get past Jackson State on Friday they will face the winner of Arizona State vs. Portland in the second round.

UCLA vs Arizona State Game Preview

Why UCLA Will Win

Here comes the running game.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson is throwing well, the offense is explosive and balanced, and the defense has stepped up large in key moments. But in this it’s going to be about Zach Charbonnet and the ground attack taking over.

Arizona State’s defense is miserable on third downs and there’s nothing happening whatsoever in the backfield from the line. Thompson-Robinson will have as much time as he needs to work, and the offensive front will dominate.

Arizona State hasn’t been too awful against the run overall, but assume UCLA has 200 yards getting off the bus and controls the game from there.

Breaking down the CFP Top 25 rankings

Why Arizona State Will Win

Arizona State can wing it around a bit.

Trenton Bourguet stepped in and saw some time in the win over Washington, and last week against Colorado he ripped off 435 yards and three scores with a slew of big downfield plays.

UCLA’s pass defense isn’t bad, but it’s good for giving up at least 200 yards a game at a minimum. The Sun Devils are going to keep on firing to keep up, and …

Schedules, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

UCLA will be too balanced as the game goes on.

Arizona State will be more than just plucky. It’ll get up early, the passing game will be strong, and it’ll be a big fight for the Bruins for about 40 minutes.

And then the running game will take over, the third down conversions and long drives will be there, and the Pac-12 title hopes will keep marching on.
