Falcons rule out cornerback on final Week 1 injury report

Falcons rule out cornerback for Sunday’s season opener on final injury report

Health-wise, the Atlanta Falcons are in great shape heading into Sunday’s season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team released its final Week 1 injury report on Friday and just one player was ruled out.

Cornerback Antonio Hamilton won’t suit up on Sunday due to a groin injury he sustained during the week. Hamilton was limited on Thursday and did not participate during Friday’s practice. Look for second-year cornerback Clark Phillips III to play an expanded role in Week 1 with Hamilton out.

Linebacker Nate Landman (oblique) and tight end Kyle Pitts (hamstring) were full participants at Friday’s practice. Both players are good to go for Sunday’s game. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson was listed as questionable but still hopes to play in the season opener.

“We play the game on Sunday,” Wilson told reporters on Friday. “I’m hoping I get to be in it, obviously, but just trying to get ready to go.”

CB Antonio Hamilton joining Falcons after 3 years with Cardinals

Hamilton played 41 games in three seasons for the Cardinals.

Cornerback Antonio Hamilton will not be back with the Arizona Cardinals for a fourth season. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons. The signing was made official by the team on Thursday. It was first reported by ESPN’s Michael Rothstein.

Hamilton is 31 years old and spent the last three seasons with the Cardinals. He appeared in 41 games, starting 16 of them, collecting 122 tackles and two interceptions.

The Cardinals did have interest in bringing him back for a fourth season.

Falcons sign veteran cornerback Antonio Hamilton

The Falcons have signed veteran cornerback Antonio Hamilton. The 31-year-old started nine games for the Cardinals last season

The Atlanta Falcons have added some depth to their secondary, signing veteran cornerback Antonio Hamilton on Thursday afternoon. Hamilton, 31, has played for four teams over his eight-year NFL career, starting nine games for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023.

The Falcons were thin at cornerback after losing Jeff Okudah to the Houston Texans in free agency. Hamilton has played primarily on the outside since entering the league in 2016. The South Carolina State product spent his first two NFL seasons with the Raiders (2016-2017) before a two-year stint with the Giants (2018-2019).

After spending the 2020 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, Hamilton signed in Arizona, where he’s played the last three years. Over 98 career games, Hamilton has recorded 25 passes defended and two interceptions.

The Falcons also signed veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman on Wednesday. These two signings should give the team more flexibility going into the 2024 NFL draft later this month.

3 Cardinals defenders injured in loss to Texans

Linebacker Kyzir White, defensive lineman Leki Fotu and cornerback Antonio Hamilton all exited the game on Sunday with injuries.

The Arizona Cardinals lost on Sunday 21-16 to the Houston Texans. The defense struggled in the first half and then locked things down in the second. However, the defense took hits with injuries, losing three starters by the end of the game.

Linebacker Kyzir White, who had played every defensive snaps of the season for the first 10 games, left the game in the first half and did not return. IT was reported initially that it was an elbow. The television broadcast said it was his shoulder.

Later, in the second half, defensive lineman Leki Fotu, who had a sack in the first half, exited with a hand injury. He was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.

While making a critical fourth-quarter interception, cornerback Antonio Hamilton suffered a groin injury and had to be helped off the field.

We probably won’t know until at least Monday what the prognosis for any of them.

With this matchup on tap, Giants Wire took the opportunity to hold a Q&A with Cardinals Wire managing editor Jess Root.

POLL: Grade the re-signing of CB Antonio Hamilton

Hamilton is back with the Cardinals for a third season. What do you think of the move?

The Arizona Cardinals brought back cornerback Antonio Hamilton on a one-year contract. The deal is for $1.5 million fully guaranteed and worth up to $2 million.

As of right now, he would be a starter at cornerback along with Marco Wilson. Even if he gets pushed down the depth chart, he still can be an ace on special teams, where his play has kept him in the NFL.

What do you think of the re-signing? Grade it in the poll and give you thoughts in the comment section below the article.

CB Antonio Hamilton’s contract worth a max of $2 million

Hamilton’s contract comes with $1.5 million guaranteed between his signing bonus and salary.

The Arizona Cardinals agreed to a one-year deal for cornerback Antonio Hamilton to return for a third season. The deal is not for much, although he gets a raise over last season and make almost double last year’s deal.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Hamilton’s deal is worth as much as $2 million.

He receives $335,000 in a signing bonus and a total of $1.5 million guaranteed. That would be the league minimum of $1.165 million in salary plus the signing bonus.

He can make up to another $500,000 in incentives for playing time.

His fully guaranteed salary all but ensures he will be on the roster.

He is a stud on special teams and showed that he could be a starting corner.

As of now, he is projected to start with Marco Wilson. We will see if the Cardinals add anyone else in free agency to the room.

Cardinals bring back CB Antonio Hamilton on 1-year contract

Hamilton comes back to the Cardinals for a third season.

The Arizona Cardinals have finally addressed the cornerback room in free agency. After seeing Byron Murphy sign with the Minnesota Vikings and non-tendering Jace Whittaker, the team announced it agreed to terms with cornerback Antonio Hamilton on a one-year contract to return for a third season.

Last season, Hamilton played in 10 games, starting five. He had 44 tackles, five pass breakups and an interception.

He entered the season as the starter after playing very well in training camp, only to suffer serious burns in a kitchen accident, missing the first four games of the season.

Hamilton currently projects as a starter along with Marco Wilson.

Troy Aikman ripped the Cardinals’ ‘embarrassing’ effort on defense after George Kittle scored an almost unimpeded TD

Aikman didn’t hold back on the Cardinals giving up.

Heading into Monday night’s matchup in Mexico City with the rival San Francisco 49ers, the Arizona Cardinals were hoping to start a season turnaround. After a thorough 38-10 drubbing at the hands of San Francisco, the hapless Cardinals seemingly only created even more questions for themselves than answers.

The climax of the Cardinals’ latest mess might have been on a late 38-yard touchdown by the 49ers’ George Kittle. After the star tight end caught a dump-off in the flat, multiple Arizona defenders appeared to have the opportunity to tackle him and stop him well short of the end zone. They did not, as Kittle coasted in largely unimpeded.

This poor defensive effort did not sit well with ESPN’s color commentator in the booth and Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman:

I mean … is Aikman wrong? The Cardinals are 4-7! What business do they have not finishing every possible play through the whistle at this point in their disappointing season? It’s simply unacceptable for a professional squad to give up like that, and it appears Aikman was clearly fed up seeing it play out in live action.

With efforts on defense like this — where it’s clear the Cardinals are starting to throw in the towel — it’s hard to imagine Kliff Kingsbury returning to the Arizona sideline in the 2023 season. Changes are probably inevitable.

WATCH: Cardinals CB Antonio Hamilton snags 1st career INT

His end-zone pick ends a scoring threat from the Saints.

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton was supposed to be one of the team’s starting cornerbacks at the start of the season. However, a cooking accident had him sidelined the first four games of the season.

Now getting some more playing time, we can see why Arizona’s coaches were impressed by him.

On third down in the red zone, he picked off a pass from New Orleans Saints quarterback Andy Dalton intended for Marquez Callaway to end a scoring threat.

New Orleans led 7-3 and looked like thy were going go up 14-3 but Hamilton took the ball away.

It was his first career interception. It came in his 77th career game.
