Three-round mock draft: Impact of Chiefs’ decisions with Orlando Brown Jr., Frank Clark

Our @goldmctNFL explores what the #Chiefs’ draft could look like in light of the team’s decisions on Orlando Brown Jr. and Frank Clark.

The Kansas City Chiefs recently made a pair of key decisions that will shape the course of the 2023 NFL offseason for the team.

Orlando Brown Jr. won’t receive the franchise tag, likely leaving him to test the free agent market. Frank Clark is expected to be released, making him the second former trade acquisition likely parting ways with Kansas City.

These two choices will certainly guide decisions made in the upcoming free agency period, but also the 2023 NFL draft. Without knowing what Brett Veach has up his sleeve come March 15, we’re taking a look forward to April’s draft. How could the departures of Clark and Brown Jr. impact their selections?

Below we’ve got a fresh three-round mock draft exploring what the Chiefs might do given the strength of the draft class and their current needs:

5 takeaways from the Oklahoma Sooners performance at the NFL Scouting Combine

Five takeaways from Oklahoma Sooners at the 2023 NFL Scouting combine.

One of the biggest weekends for the football world just came to completion. This weekend served as a massive evaluation tool for determining the future of the next stars of the NFL.

Oklahoma has no shortage of stars in the pro ranks at the moment but has the opportunity for a number of players to hear their names called in April.

Seven Sooners made the trek to Indianapolis to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Oklahoma Sooners, as a whole, put on a fine display of athleticism as multiple players put up great testing numbers. Social media was set ablaze watching [autotag]Anton Harrison[/autotag], [autotag]Marvin Mims[/autotag], and [autotag]Jalen Redmond[/autotag] test. With the combine over, these former Sooners will begin preparing for their pro day.

Here are five takeaways about the Oklahoma Sooners from the NFL Scouting Combine.

Patriots met with big-name tackle prospects at NFL Scouting Combine

The Patriots are leaving no stone unturned at the offensive tackle position.

The New England Patriots met with several of the premier tackle prospects in the 2023 NFL draft, as tackle remains a pressing need.

The organization met with Ohio State’s Paris Johnson Jr., Georgia’s Broderick Jones, and Oklahoma’s Anton Harrison over the course of last week, per Patriots.com’s Evan Lazar.

Johnson and Jones are projected first-round selections and figure to be hot commodities at the position.

New England struggled at the left tackle position last season, and several are set to hit free agency. Isaiah Wynn, Yodny Cajuste, and Marcus Cannon are unrestricted free agents and will hit the market on March 15. That will leave an open spot for depth.

Trent Brown is the headliner at the position, as he started 16 games last season. Conor McDermott, who started six games last season, recently re-signed with the Patriots. There is also Andrew Stueber, the former Michigan product who missed last season with an injury.

New England has several needs heading into this year’s draft, with offensive line and wide receiver being two of the biggest on that list. It will be intriguing to see where players like Johnson and Jones go, and how that affects the draft strategy for the rest of the positions.

Mock Draft Monday 4.0: Who analysts are sending to Chargers

Get familiar with some of the players experts think the Chargers will target in the 2023 NFL draft following the combine.

With the Combine coming to a close over the weekend, this week’s edition of Mock Draft Monday mixes both pre-combine mock drafts and reactionary drafts written after players tested in Indianapolis.

With 15 mock drafts on tap this week, analysts have chosen nine different players for the Chargers at 21, indicating that there continues to be a lack of consensus about what L.A. is planning in the first round.

7 takeaways from the top RB, OL performances at NFL Combine

We’re looking at takeaways and observations from the running back and offensive line workouts at the 2023 NFL scouting combine

The Eagles and 31 other teams were in Indianapolis for the 2023 NFL scouting combine, and all eyes Sunday were on the running backs and offensive linemen portion of the workouts.

Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders and Boston Scott are both slated for free agency along with 9 key contributors on defense.

It won’t be possible for the Eagles to bring them all back, especially once Jalen Hurts signs his new deal.

With Philadelphia potentially targeting a running back in April’s draft, names like Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Zach Charbonnet were on display.

Here are seven takeaways from the final day of the scouting combine.

Anton Harrison selected top 15 in latest mock draft from ESPN’s Mel Kiper

Mel Kiper has Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle Anton Harrison going in the top 15 in his latest mock draft for ESPN.

Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle [autotag]Anton Harrison[/autotag] has been a popular man this mock draft season. Though USA TODAY Sports latest mock draft had Harrison slipping out of the first round, ESPN’s Mel Kiper’s thinks very highly of the Sooners left tackle (ESPN+). Kiper has the big man heading to the Big Apple. With the 13th pick in the NFL Draft, Kiper believes that the New York Jets will select Harrison.

The Oklahoma Sooners and offensive line coach [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag] got a lot of positive publicity during the playoffs. [autotag]Creed Humphrey[/autotag] and [autotag]Orlando Brown[/autotag] were both coached by Bedenbaugh at Oklahoma and were a huge part of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl win. Having his former left tackle selected in the top 15 to a New York team would be quite the feather in his cap on recruiting trips.

Here’s what Kiper had to say about Harrison.

The Jets have major issues at offensive tackle. Mekhi Becton, the No. 11 overall pick in 2020, has played one game over the past two seasons. George Fant, who was limited to seven starts last season, is a free agent, while Duane Brown is 37 years old. They might have to fill both tackle spots this offseason. Luckily for New York, this is a Round 1 filled with solid tackles. Harrison started 24 games at left tackle for the Sooners over the past two seasons, allowing one sack and seven total pressures. He could play right tackle, too. He’s a great fit for the Jets, who could have a new quarterback for which to block.-Mel Kiper, ESPN

Harrison is the only Sooner present in this mock draft, which is consistent with what we’ve seen so far this season. If there’s one Sooner taken in the first round in the NFL Draft this year, it’s going to be Anton Harrison.

Oklahoma Sooners shut out of first round in USA TODAY Sports mock draft

No Oklahoma Sooners were selected in a recent USA TODAY Sports mock draft.

If there’s going to be one Oklahoma Soone r who hears his name called on day one of the NFL Draft, it’s probably going to be offensive tackle Anton Harrison. However, in this mock draft from Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA TODAY, not one Sooner is projected to be selected in the first round.

The first Big 12 player taken in this mock was Tyree Wilson of Texas Tech. Middlehurst-Schwartz has him taken at fifth overall to the Seattle Seahawks. TCU’s Quentin Johnson and Texas’ Bijan Robinson were the only other players from Big 12 schools present in this mock draft.

Three offensive tackles are mocked to be selected in this mock draft, with Paris Johnson Jr. of Ohio State being the first from the position to be taken. Peter Skoronski of Northwestern and Broderick Jones of Georgia were the other two tackles taken in this mock.

Harrison could very well fall through the entire first round, or he could end up being selected between 10-20. This offensive tackle class lacks a true top dog, but has several very good options.

Sooners fans might have to wait until day two to hear one of their players’ names called.

Anton Harrison taken late in the first in Todd McShay’s post Super Bowl mock draft

Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle Anton Harrison continues to get first round buzz, this time from ESPN’s Todd McShay.

It’s looking like the Oklahoma Sooners will have representation back in the first round of the NFL draft in 2023.

After Super Bowl LVII, ESPN’s Todd McShay released his latest mock draft (ESPN+), and [autotag]Anton Harrison[/autotag] continues to receive first-round consideration. McShay has the Sooners’ offensive tackle joining former Sooners Jalen Hurts, Lane Johnson, and Tyrese Robinson with the NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles.

It has been a while since the Eagles were first on the clock at No. 10, when they took a defensive tackle (Bryan Bresee). Now Philadelphia pivots to the other side of the ball but stays in the trenches. The Eagles have Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata under contract for three more years, but Harrison could provide depth and perhaps help out on the interior, where the team might lose a couple starters this offseason. He walls off defenders and has allowed just two sacks over three seasons. And perhaps more importantly for Philly’s offense, he has blown just seven run blocks over that time. – McShay, ESPN

Interestingly, McShay considers Harrison an option at guard. He has the physical tools to play inside. However, his frame seems more suited to offensive tackle.

Harrison is a really good run blocker and helped pave the way for Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray to have monster seasons in the last two years. He’d be a fantastic fit in Philadelphia’s run-heavy offense.

Eagles reload in the trenches with dynamic talent in Todd McShay’s latest 2023 NFL mock draft

Philadelphia Eagles reload in the trenches in Todd McShay’s latest 2023 NFL mock draft from ESPN

The Eagles came up short in Super Bowl LVII, falling to the Chiefs, 38-35 after blowing a 10-point lead and allowing 24 points in the second half.

With the season now complete and all eyes turning towards the offseason, Philadelphia will now focus on 18 pending free agents, a contract extension for All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts and adding more talent via the NFL draft.

In Todd McShay’s latest mock from ESPN, the Eagles reload in the trenches.

Bengals get a new name in a creative 2023 NFL mock draft

A new name for the Bengals in a mock draft.

The Cincinnati Bengals have a few obvious positional targets in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft right now.

Despite this, it’s always interesting when a new name pops up at one of those positions in a mock draft.

Take the latest effort from NFL.com’s Cynthia Frelund in a mock exercise that sees her first projecting free agents to teams and optimizing for the absolute most wins in the 2023 season before anything else. In that effort, the Bengals stick at No. 28 and take Oklahoma offensive tackle Anton Harrison:

“It was very close between corner and offensive line as the spot to address here, with Harrison’s pass-protection abilities changing the math. Harrison allowed just nine pressures on 425 pass-blocking snaps, per PFF.”

Harrison, 6’5″ and 315 pounds, hails from a big program and has plenty of experience, which are the big things the Zac Taylor regime has sought out in draft prospects.

Interestingly, Harrison lined up at left tackle, whereas the Bengals likely want to invest in a right tackle with La’el Collins injured. There’s a chance he could move to the right side or even guard, though, and it’s not totally off the table that someone like Jonah Williams moves around this summer.

Either way, the Bengals getting help in the offensive trenches is a must after the way the depth collapsed in the playoffs with three starters injured.
