Anthony Edwards high on USA TODAY’s NBA Draft Big Board

Georgia basketball star Anthony Edwards is high on USA Today’s NBA Draft big board.

With the 2019-20 NCAA basketball regular season coming to an end, USA TODAY’s Rookie Wire put together its NBA Draft Big Board.

They listed 75 players and had Georgia freshman sensation Anthony Edwards as the No. 3 player on the board.

Edwards trails only LaMelo Ball and Onyeka Okongwu.

Edwards, a shooting guard who came to Georgia with massive expectations, had a solid season in Athens despite the team’s struggles.

Edwards’ numbers have been great, averaging nearly 20 points, five rebounds and three assists. Though Georgia’s season was a disappointment, Edwards gave Dawgnation something to watch and get excited over.

On Edwards, Rookie Wire said:

Under head coach Tom Crean, the University of Georgia freshman has been a revelation in transition offense. Edwards ranks Top-5 in total scoring on these plays, per Synergy, averaging 5.7 points per game. He looks his best when his shot attempts come closer to the rim, especially considering his 6-foot-9 wingspan. Farther from the basket, meanwhile, more than half of his 3-pointers have been unassisted. This shows he is capable of creating his own shot.

Most NBA mock drafts have Edwards going at No. 1 overall, thanks to his superstar potential. If that happens, Edwards would become Georgia’s first ever No. 1 NBA Draft pick.

Georgia basketball sets season attendance record

Anthony Edwards and company have helped the Georgia Bulldogs basketball program set their single season attendance record.

In what’s been an up and down basketball season to say the least, the Georgia Bulldogs have set their record for single season attendance. At 15-14 the Dawgs have had a somewhat disappointing season. UGA had arguably their best basketball recruiting class ever and is now 12th in the SEC.

Fans can pat themselves on the back for supporting the team throughout a tough season. A huge factor in Georgia’s impressive attendance is freshman stud Anthony Edwards. Edwards is projected as the top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Georgia basketball coach Tom Crean thanked the fans following the Dawgs’ win over Arkansas this Saturday:

Anthony Edwards and Tom Crean have helped energize Georgia’s program, but can the Bulldogs make a run in the SEC Tournament. Georgia will have to win the SEC Tournament in order to make the NCAA Tournament.

Georgia set a new attendance record last season. With better home attendance, UGA will win more home games and have a better team. Georgia has gone an impressive 12-4 at home this season.

The fans are making a difference as they do throughout college basketball (look at home-away records for every team). Georgia can get even better at home. Elite teams in the NCAA rarely lose at home. Tom Crean and the young Bulldog team will be better on the road next season. This year’s 3-8 record won’t cut it for UGA to make the NCAA Tournament.

Georgia basketball earns much-needed win over Arkansas

Tom Crean’s Georgia Bulldogs came out on top over Arkansas in a contest filled with one-sided scoring streaks.

Needing a win to stay in contention for a first-round bye in the SEC tournament, Tom Crean’s Georgia Bulldogs came out on top over Arkansas in a contest filled with one-sided scoring streaks.

Amidst a season plagued with blown leads and resultant losses, Georgia faithful could never feel comfortable with the Bulldogs’ 18-point lead.

The visiting Hogs twice cut the lead to a single point before the home Dawgs sealed the game.

Projected top NBA Draft pick Anthony Edwards took over the final 1:07 of the game, scoring nine of his 26 points in crunch time. Edwards punctuated the game with a ferocious two-handed dunk that sunk Arkansas.

Fellow NBA prospect Rayshaun Hammonds posted 22 points and nine boards.

Despite a lackluster season for Georgia basketball, the NBA’s projected top pick Anthony Edwards has thrown together a rather modest highlight film in what will almost certainly be his only season in Athens.

In the Bulldogs’ home game against Arkansas, Edwards added another clip to his human highlight reel (if you’re reading this, Dominique Wilkins, we love you).

In the game’s closing moments, Edwards reassured fans that the proper phrase is “Dawgs on Top” as opposed to “Hogs on top.”

To emphasize, here’s another look at how Edwards sprinted down-court and embarrassed five other adults at once:

Georgia closed out the game to improve to 15-14 on the season.

Edwards finished the game with 26 points and seven boards.

Nic Claxton has no doubt about Anthony Edwards going first in 2020 NBA Draft

They may have attended Georgia at different times, but Nic Claxton likes what he’s seen from Anthony Edwards.

Although Nic Claxton didn’t get the chance to play with Anthony Edwards at Georgia — he elected to declare for the NBA Draft after his sophomore season with the Bulldogs, before Edwards’ first year — the 31st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft (first of the second round) already has an idea of what the 6-foot-5 guard is going to bring to the NBA when he gets his chance.

In fact, Claxton is currently in line with most mock drafts, which have Edwards being the No. 1 overall pick in 2020. After the Nets rookie’s game on Monday with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate — in which he had seven rebounds and scored 19 points on 8 of 9 shooting — Claxton explained to Chris Milholen of Nets Daily just how confident he is that Edwards will go No. 1:

He is amazing. First pick for sure, no question. He is doing his thing out there. He is going to be something special in this league for a very long time.

Long Island is back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Best Anthony Edwards dunks of the season

Georgia Bulldogs basketball star Anthony Edwards has had some great dunks this season.

It’s been a tough season for Georgia Bulldogs basketball. The Dawgs were able to get a big-time win over Auburn and a buzzer beater to win at Vanderbilt this week. Outside of those two wins, it has been rough in SEC play for Tom Crean’s young team.

Stud freshman Anthony Edwards is a reason to watch the Dawgs night in and night out. Edwards is projected as the top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Let’s take a look at the best highlight dunks Edwards has had this season. It starts with this poster at Vanderbilt on Saturday:

Edwards is the best dunker to come through Athens in quite sometime. Will he one day participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest?

He’d have a chance to win it with windmill dunks like this one:

Edwards may be UGA’s best dunker since Dominique Wilkins. The current top team in the 2020 NBA Draft is projected to be the Golden State Warriors. Edwards would be fun to watch with Klay Thompson, Steph Curry, and more.

That last windmill wasn’t the only one for Anthony Edwards:

Twitter reacts to Georgia basketball’s upset win over Auburn

The Georgia Bulldogs and Anthony Edwards knocked off the 13th ranked Auburn Tigers 65-55 in Athens.

The Georgia Bulldogs and Anthony Edwards knocked off the 13th ranked Auburn Tigers 65-55 in Athens. The win is a bright spot in Georgia’s up and down season. Hopes were high following UGA’s big-time win over Memphis before conference play begin.

Tom Crean and the Dawgs have struggled in SEC play, but with this upset win they’re now 13-13 overall. They’ll have to win the SEC tournament to make the NCAA tournament. Still, it was the biggest win of the year for Bulldogs and it came at the expense of hated rival Auburn.

Georgia fans rejoiced on social media:

UGA hoop’s win wasn’t the only upset of the night:

Antman projected number one overall

Anthony “Antman” Edwards is projected as the NBA number one overall draft pick, a true freshman for Georgia basketball.

The latest 2020 NBA Mock Draft ESPN showed after their extensive NBA All-Star Game highlights package has true freshman diaper dandy Anthony “Antman” Edwards going as the number one overall draft pick.

Although Georgia basketball has continued to struggle mightily in SEC league play in year two of the coach Tom Crean era, Edwards has been a spark. The Hoop Hounds simply do not have enough mature talent to win games, in the increasingly competitive basketball league.

Edwards was considered a one-and-done at the time he was signed by UGA, and nothing has changed to alter the NBA scouts’ opinions of his talent.

This list was made by NBA draft experts Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz. Here is their complete projected top 10:

  1. G Anthony Edwards
  2. C James Wiseman
  3. G/F Isaac Okoro
  4. G LaMelo Ball
  5. G/F Deni Avdija
  6. G Tyrese Maxey
  7. F/C Onyeka Okongwu
  8. G Tyrese Haliburton
  9. F Obi Toppin
  10. G Nico Mannion

As the NBA draft involves a lottery, team drafting order is subject to change.

Georgia basketball suffers painful overtime defeat

The Dawgs fought until the end, coming up just short by a final score of 105 to 102.

In a conference matchup between two teams sporting losing SEC records (despite both maintaining winning overall records), the Georgia Bulldogs lost a heart-breaker against Alabama. The Dawgs fought until the end, coming up just short by a final score of 105 to 102.

The game was tied at 92 points apiece with 21.6 seconds remaining. The score at the end of regulation remained the same, sending the SEC foes to the conference’s third overtime contest of the day.

In the Bulldogs’ first 100-point offensive performance of the year, projected top-five NBA Draft selection Anthony Edwards was limited to 14 points on 5-17 from the field.

Freshman Sahvir Wheeler led the Dawgs with 24 points and 8 assists.

Rayshaun Hammonds posted 20 points. Toumani Camara recorded 12.

The Dawgs will play their next game on Wednesday at home against South Carolina. Tom Crean’s squad somehow maintains 12-11 overall record while having gone 2-8 against SEC opponents.

Georgia’s Anthony Edwards stays home in latest NBA Mock Draft

Georgia Bulldogs freshman Anthony Edwards is projected to go home to the Atlanta Hawk in the latest 2020 NBA Mock Draft.

Georgia Bulldogs star freshman shooting guard Anthony Edwards is averaging 19.3 points per game with 5.3 boards and 3.0 assists. Edwards is projected to be a top-five pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

There’s no consensus number one overall pick yet for the class of 2020. With improved efficiency, Edwards could vault to the top of his class. Edwards is a 6’5″ shooting guard from Atlanta, Georgia. Despite UGA basketball’s struggles on the season, Edwards has remained impressive to NBA scouts.

There’s a decent chance Edwards ends up with the Atlanta Hawks in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Hawks currently have the tied for second worst record in the NBA at 13-37. A bottom three record gives them a 52.1% shot at a top four pick in the NBA Draft and a 14% chance at the top pick.

Will Anthony Edwards go number one overall? The latest NBA Mock Draft, from NBC Sports, has Edwards going second to the Atlanta Hawks. It’d be a base case scenario for many Georgia fans and Edwards, who went to high school in the Atlanta area (Holy Spirit Preparatory School).

Edwards would be able to help the Hawks immediately. With several months left of both college basketball and the NBA, the rankings of prospects and the NBA standings will change a lot in the next few months. The Hawks are poised to play better post-All-Star break with Trae Young.

Even if the Hawks play well in their next thirty plus games, the Hawks will still have a shot to select Edwards if they get a little lucky in the lottery.
