Notre Dame statistical leaders through 11 games

Who leads the Irish heading into the final regular-season contest?

Notre Dame has its fate in its own hands for the College Football Playoff. All it needs to do is defeat USC, and a first-round game at Notre Dame Stadium appears to be a certainty. Who would have thought the Irish would be in such a good position after the loss to Northern Illinois threatened to derail their season early?

The Irish can’t afford to get complacent though. The Trojans have not had a great season, but dealing the Irish a loss that could threaten their playoff chances would make up for everything that has gone wrong for them. That’s why the Irish will need to prepare for them like they would for any ranked team, and the talent they have should allow them to emerge victorious.

Here are the major statistical leaders the Irish are taking into their regular-season finale. Not all of them will be available, but they’re fun to see nonetheless:

Notre Dame vs. Army: Fourth-Quarter Analysis

Another win in the bag.

It’s a story Notre Dame has become all too familiar with this year, and that’s a good thing. Like so many other opponents before it, Army entered the fourth quarter realizing it had no chance against the mighty Irish. So it really was a matter of playing out the final 15 minutes of what ultimately was a 49-14 Irish victory.

Even with [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] calling off the dogs, [autotag]Aneyas Williams[/autotag] ran for a 58-yard touchdown on the Irish’s first offensive play from scrimmage in the fourth quarter. They simply could help themselves from adding onto their already insurmountable lead.

The Knights followed that with a drive mainly consisting of runs that took over 10 minutes, almost the rest of the game. The only question at that point was whether they could get their points total for the game in double figures. This they did when Bryson Daily completed his second touchdown run of the game from the 1-yard line.

The Irish are one step closer to assuring their place in the College Football Playoff. As long as they take care of business against USC, they’re home free and possibly home for the first round.

Notre Dame vs. Florida State: First-Quarter Analysis

The Irish have the lead. That’s the important thing.

Notre Dame is facing a Florida State team that has nothing to play for but pride the rest of the season. Opponents with nothing left to lose often are the most dangerous. Despite a 7-3 Irish lead after the first quarter, the Seminoles have shown they won’t be pushovers.

The Irish needed only 103 seconds to get the scoring going. The middle of their first drive featuring a 28-yard completion from [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] to [autotag]Aneyas Williams[/autotag]. It culminated with Leonard running 34 years for the game’s first touchdown.

The Seminoles’ first possession took almost half the quarter, though that was helped by an Irish defensive penalty on fourth down. Though the Seminoles got to the Irish 4-yard line, they only could muster a Ryan Fitzgerald chip-shot field goal to get them on the board.

After that, there was a whole lot of nothing with four consecutive three-and-outs, two apiece for the teams. [autotag]Jadarian Price[/autotag] broke that streak with a first-down run in the final minute. He did so without [autotag]Anthonie Knapp,[/autotag] the Irish’s starting left tackle who went to the bench with a currently undisclosed injury during the quarter.

Notre Dame Week 7 highlight: Aneyas Williams gets first career touchdown

The backups are in — and they’re still scoring for Notre Dame.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are up big over the Stanford Cardinal, and both teams just waited out an hour-long weather delay, so the backups are in.

And freshman running back Aneyas Williams has his first career touchdown after he ran the ball in from 19 yards out to finish off an 11-play, 60-yard drive that took 5:25. Notre Dame scored with 9:17 remaining in the game.

Notre Dame needed a win versus Stanford, and the Irish aren’t just winning but they’re piling up points as they make a case for a higher ranking in the polls.

Notre Dame running back Aneyas Williams warms up during a Notre Dame football practice at Irish Athletic Center on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, in South Bend.

Notre Dame statistical leaders through four games

Who’s on the board going into the next game?

The great thing about Notre Dame’s dominant win over Miami (Ohio) is that a few more players got a chance to shine. Consequently, we have a few new names popping up in our weekly statistical leaders listicle heading into the game against Louisville. That should force the Cardinals to be a little more aware of the players they’ll be going up against.

This goes without saying, but the Irish always can benefit from new players appearing in these categories. It highlights just how deep the team’s talent is, and anyone can step in at any point. It might take some players longer to crack the leaders lists than others, but that’s the beauty of a regular season that runs through the end of November.

So who are the players standing out the most going into the Irish’s last game before their first bye week? Take a look for yourself here:

Watch: True freshman RB Aneyas Williams finds end zone in Notre Dame’s spring game

The true freshman could make plays like this in the fall

It’s safe to say that Notre Dame football’s 2024 recruiting class will be setting the stage for years to come.

One of those freshman is running back [autotag]Aneyas Williams[/autotag], who entered the program as the nations No. 19 back and 250th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. It didn’t take long for him to make an impact in Notre Dame’s Blue and Gold game, as he found the end zone early in the second quarter.

Williams started his run on the inside, bounced outside and outraced the defenders to the pile-on and cashed in. What was an interesting aspect of the score was that the broadcast actually was interviewing head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and he explained how a freshman back could get playing time.

Since he knows the protections, Freeman believes that his young back will see the field early for the Irish this season. That is exciting to hear.

Notre Dame 2024 signee named Gatorade Player of Year in Missouri

Congrats Aneyas!

To be named the state’s top player is a huge honor, and one Notre Dame football 2024 signee has earned it.

Running back [autotag]Aneyas Williams[/autotag], who hails from Missouri, was among the Gatorade Player of the Year state winners announced on Wednesday. The distinction was well deserved: He produced 1,415 rushing yards, 816 receiving yards with 46 total touchdowns.

Those video game numbers Williams put up as a senior propelled him to be ranked 19th at his position and 288th overall on the 247Sports composite. Given Notre Dame typically uses multiple backs, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get playing time during his freshman season.

Congratulations to Aneyas, and we look forward to see what he can do in an Irish uniform.

College football recruiting: Notre Dame beats out bluebloods for elite running back

Huge win for the Irish!

Sure, eyes are focused on the 2023 recruiting classes being finished up nation-wide but Notre Dame received more tremendous news for their 2024 class on Friday night.  Running back Aneyas Williams announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

We don’t need to go over an evaluation of stars to see that Williams is an absolute beast and will be huge for Notre Dame down the road.  Williams chose the Irish over offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, USC, and plenty of the other biggest programs nationally.

At Hannibal High School in Missouri, Williams had a monster junior campaign.  He scored 34 touchdowns and racked up nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards.

The commitment from Williams furthers the giant imprint Notre Dame has made in recruiting the state of Missouri in recent years.  Running back Jeremiyah Love and cornerback Christian Gray are already in the 2023 class while Kyren Williams, Gabe Rubio, and Tyson Ford have all wound up at Notre Dame from the Show Me State in recent years.

Notre Dame 2024 commits share their ‘Think Big’ videos and graphics

These are all excellent #ThinkBig

It has been a pretty big day for [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] and their social media team.

Not only was the Irish’s green jerseys unveiled on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, but multiple 2024 commitments shared videos and graphics with the hashtag of ThinkBig, the slogan of their class.

Was is unique about this campaign is that none of the videos shared were the same, each of the individually crafted for each commitment. It’s a job well done by the Notre Dame social media staff, as they have been extremely busy the past few weeks getting all of this prepared to roll out at the same time.

Take a look below at some of the videos and graphics shared by the Irish verbal commitments.

Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class commitments

Who is next?

The 2023 recruiting cycle has not yet signed, but that doesn’t mean the Irish are waiting for that class to fill up. [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] is already working hard on the 2024 class, and here are the current commitments for that class in order. (This list will be updated as more prospects pledge to Notre Dame.)
