The Eagles are in jeopardy of losing another key front office member after the Steelers announced that Andy Weidl has landed a second interview for their general manager job.

A key fixture in Philadelphia with 24 years of NFL scouting experience, Weidl just completed his sixth overall season with the Eagles and his third as the team’s vice president of player personnel.

Weidl has played an integral role in helping construct rosters that have produced playoff appearances in four of the last five seasons, including two NFC East championships (2017 and 2019) and a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

A Pittsburgh native, Weidl originally joined Philadelphia’s scouting department as the assistant director of player personnel (2016-17) under current Jets general manager Joe Douglas.

During the 2018 offseason, Weidl was promoted to director of player personnel.

The Eagles have worked to diligently restructure their scouting departments and front office this spring after several staff departures.

The first positive domino has fallen, as Kimberly A. Martin reports that Philadelphia is hiring Cleveland Browns national scout, Charles Walls to the position of Director of Player Personnel.

Walls would be filling the role previously held by Brandon Brown and Ian Cunningham.

Before joining the Browns, Walls had been the Southwest region scout for Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst since 2017 after working his way up in the scouting department since joining the organization as an intern in 2013.

During Walls tenure with the Packers, Green Bay landed Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones (Texas El-Paso), Jace Sternberger (Texas A&M), Kingsley Keke (Texas A&M), and Ty Summers (TCU) out of the Southwest region and Walls also played a role in drafting Elgton Jenkins (Mississippi State), undrafted linebackers Curtis Bolton (Oklahoma) and Randy Ramsey (Arkansas).

Before working in the Southwest region Walls was the Packers’ National Football Scouting representative for the NFL scouting combine.

The 75-year-old Donahoe had been in the personnel department for ten years and has over 38 years of the front office and player evaluation experience, but he’ll be best remembered for this awkward fist bump with GM Howie Roseman during the 2021 NFL draft. and was a veteran voice who brought 38 years of NFL experience to the Eagles.

Donahoe spent years with his hometown Steelers and the Buffalo Bills before joining the Eagles and he was a key figure behind the scenes for Philadelphia.

This move follows the departures of former Eagles senior scouts Ian Cunningham and Brandon Brown back in January.

Recently, vice president of football operations Catherine Raiche moved on to the Browns, while Casey Weidl and three other staffers were also shown the door.

Jeff McLane and Josh Tolentino of The Inquirer are reporting that Philadelphia recently interviewed Jim Nagy, the Senior Bowl director, for a key scout department position.

McLane is reporting that the Eagles will also interview Steelers front office staffer Brandon Hunt for a key role.
