Cardinals bring back DB who started 5 games for team last season to practice squad

Chachere joins the practice squad as the Cardinals have injuries to safeties Jalen Thompson and Joey Blount.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a small roster move for the practice squad on Monday as they returned to the practice field for bonus work coming off their bye week.

After he had a visit last week, the Cardinals announced the addition of safety Andre Chachere, who spent all last season with the team and even started five games.

The Cardinals claimed him off waivers when he was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles in May 2023. Last season, he played in 17 games, starting five, logging 30 total tackles and three pass breakups.

He spent this past offseason with the team before being part of the final roster cutdown to 53 players. He spent time earlier this season on the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This is actually Chachere’s fourth stint with the Cardinals.

Before he spent last year with the team, he originally joined the Cardinals on their practice squad in September 2019, was released in October, then signed to the active roster in December 2019 off Carolina’s practice squad. He was cut in May 2020 before spending 2021 and 2022 with the Philadelphia Eagles.

He gives the Cardinals safety depth, especially for special teams, as Jalen Thompson and Joey Blount were not at practice on Monday.

Cardinals had familiar face in for visit; could fill vacant practice squad spot

The Cardinals had a player who was on their roster last season visit on Tuesday.

Might a reunion be ahead for the Arizona Cardinals and safety Andre Chachere?

Since being released by the Cardinals on Aug. 27, Chachere spent a little more than three weeks on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad (Sept. 12-Oct. 7), but has been a man without a team since then.

After the Cardinals released safety Russ Yeast from the practice squad Monday, Chachere was in Tempe for a visit Tuesday, making it appear that he will be signed to the practice squad soon.

It might not officially happen until next Monday because NFL players are paid during the bye week and there’s no work for him to do on the practice squad this week to earn a paycheck.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon was familiar with the 6-0, 200-pound Chachere when he played for the Eagles in 2021-22. The Cardinals claimed him on waivers after he was cut on May 8, 2023. He played all 17 games with five starts last season and was on the field for 468 defensive snaps (42 percent) and 232 (52 percent) on special teams.

Chachere had 29 tackles (23 solo) and had three passes defensed, while contributing three tackles (one solo) on special teams.

36 days till the Cardinals’ season opener against the Bills

The Cardinals’ current No. 36 is safety Andre Chachere. Do you remember that Budda Baker wore No. 36 to start his career?

The Arizona Cardinals will play their preseason opener in one week from today. They are a little bit more than five weeks away from the start of the regular season.

In 36 days, they will take the field at Highmark Stadium on September 8 to take on the Buffalo Bills on the road.

The Cardinals’ current No. 36 on the roster is safety Andre Chachere, entering his second season with the team.

Chachere had a decent impact on the team in 2023.

After two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, he signed with the Cardinals, reuniting him with Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon, who was the defensive coordinator for the Eagles previously.

Chachere, signed as depth at safety and for special teams play, played in all 17 games last season and started five times. He played 468 defensive snaps, finishing with 30 total tackles and three pass breakups.

He is not assured a spot on the roster but is a favorite to be one of the two reserve safeties behind Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson.

Baker actually also wore No. 36 to start his career in 2017-2018, before changing it to 32 and then No. 3.

This is officially the last weekend with no football until after the Super Bowl. It’s exciting!

Eagles rookie DB Sydney Brown switches jersey number

Sydney Brown was already expected to be a starter at the safety position and his new jersey confirms that expectation

The Eagles drafted Sydney Brown with the expectation that he’d become a versatile starter at the safety position.

After initially being assigned the No. 43, Brown is now switching to the No. 21 after Andre Chachere was waived.

A swiss army knife at the safety position, Brown wore the No. 30 at Illinois and he’ll start his career playing in the slot, which best utilizes his aggressive approach and dual-threat abilities.
