Week 16 Amway Coaches Poll provides potential College Football Playoff picture

Could there be yet another rematch between college football heavyweights?

In the end, Michigan football played just one ranked team, despite the four losses in 2020. The Wolverines went 2-4, but avoided the undefeated Buckeyes in the final regular-season matchup of the Big Ten schedule.

The final Amway Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports, before bowl games take place is out, and but one of the teams that the maize and blue played finished in the top 25, that team being No. 8 Indiana. Ohio State finished at No. 3 after having taken down Northwestern on Saturday in Indianapolis.

If the College Football Playoff committee follows a similar line of thinking, then Alabama will face off against Notre Dame while Ohio State has yet another postseason matchup against Clemson.

Despite loss to Alabama, Gators move up in Amway Coaches Poll

The Amway Coaches Poll for Week 16 of college football is out and the Florida Gators made up a little bit of ground despite the loss to Bama

The Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports is out after the conference championship game weekend and the Florida Gators, despite losing its SEC title match with the Alabama Crimson Tide, managed to move up a spot and sneak back into the top 10 heading into bowl game season.

Speaking of ‘Bama, the Tide held firm to its top spot in the poll now carrying an 11-0 record into the College Football Playoff where they will presumably be seeded in the No. 1 slot as well. Along with the Texas A&M Aggies at No. 5 and the Georgia Bulldogs at No. 9, the Southeastern Conference boasts four teams in the top 10 at the conclusion of the regular season. However, those four schools are the only SEC representatives in the overall top 25.

Here is a look at the full Amway Coaches Poll after the conclusion of Week 16 of college football.

WATCH: Former RB Bo Scarbrough on what it’s like playing for Nick Saban

Bo Scarbrough sat down with Aaron Murray on the Campus Lore Championship Moments series to discuss what it’s like playing for Nick Saban.

[jwplayer aXGhfDLO]

Bo Scarbrough spent three seasons at Alabama, so the former running back knows a thing or two about Nick Saban, both as a coach and as a person.

For whatever reason, Saban gets unjustly painted as a jerk sometimes, and it has led a lot of the average football fans out to think that’s actually his personality. In reality, it isn’t.

Scarbrough sat down with Aaron Murray as part of the Campus Lore Championship Moments series presented by Amway and XS Energy Drink to discuss what it was like playing for the greatest coach of all time.

“With coach Saban, you have to know him to know what type of guy he is. But I will say that he is a players’ coach. I think that people always looked at coach Saban as probably mean, always being serious or this uptight guy. Because when we stepped on the field, it was all business, and we came there to take care of business.

But coach Saban joked around a lot. A lot of the players like him. You can walk into his office anytime that you want to. You can talk to him about anything, and I have to say that coach Saban is a players’ coach. I believe that’s why we win so much is because the players like him, and players are going to play hard for a coach they like.”

Pretty good insight for a guy who has spent a lot of time around the six-time national championship winning head coach. Scarbrough was someone who was part of “The Process,” too.

He had to work behind Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake and Damien Harris early in his career, and he never got an extended opportunity to have the Alabama backfield to himself.

That would make some rushers upset, yet Scarbrough never let it faze him. He also didn’t let it affect his opinion of Saban, which is a very favorable one.

As much as he gets criticized for how he has handled a few emotional situations in the past, Saban truly is a players’ coach, as Scarbrough described. And most anyone who plays for him comes away with an appreciation they didn’t necessarily have going in.

Scarbrough finished his career with 1,800 total yards (1,512 rushing, 288 receiving) and 20 rushing touchdowns.

Week 15 Amway Coaches Poll: Longhorns fall one spot, Iowa State rises

UT remained in the Amway Coaches Poll after a bye. UT even dropped a spot to No. 24. They remain the lowest-ranked Big 12 team in the top 25.

The Texas Longhorns were off this past Saturday due to the growing number of COVID-19 positive cases within the program. Only Oklahoma State, Texas Chrisitan and Baylor were in action for the conference. The Oklahoma Sooners were also off due to their game getting canceled due to West Virginia’s number of coronavirus cases. Iowa State and Oklahoma meet on Saturday in the Big 12 Championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

This week saw the Longhorns remain in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. Texas even dropped a spot, falling to No. 24. They remain the lowest-ranked Big 12 team within the top 25.

Going into the conference championship game, it will now be a top 10 matchup between the Cyclones (No. 8) and Sooners (No. 10). Both teams benefited from Florida’s home loss to LSU on Saturday night.

Oklahoma State was the biggest mover within the Big 12, climbing back into the top 25 at No. 22. Mike Gundy’s squad dismantled Baylor 42-3 to wrap up their season.

The top five remained the same with Alabama having a game on Saturday vs Arkansas. Texas A&M is the only team that will not be in action during conference champions weekend within the top five.

Oklahoma moves up two more spots to No. 10 in Amway Coaches Poll

Following another unexpected bye week, Oklahoma moved up two spots to No. 10 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Oklahoma once again had the week off on Saturday as their game with West Virginia was given the boot for the second time. This time it was for good as the game will not be made up this season.

Despite not playing, the Sooners were able to move up two more spots to No. 10 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports thanks to some losses in front of them by Florida and Miami.

Remaining as the top dog is of course Alabama after they demolished Arkansas on the road yesterday.

The rest of the top five also remains untouched with Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State and Texas A&M rounding things out.

Other Big 12 teams in the rankings include Iowa State at No. 8, Oklahoma State at No. 22 and Texas at No. 24.

Next up for Oklahoma will be an attempt at a sixth straight Big 12 title when they take on the No. 8 Cyclones in Arlington for the conference championship on Saturday.
