Here are the updated bowl standings for each conference this college football bowl season.

Bowl season is the time of the year for the final bragging rights for the college football season. Conferences go toe-to-toe across the bowl season with bowl tie-ins lining up some good matchups and lining up for some terrific banter between fan bases. But which conference gets the ultimate bragging rights at the end of the bowl season? That’s what we are looking to find out.

We will be keeping tabs on every bowl game result, tracking each conference’s overall bowl record, and breaking down each conference’s records against individual conferences. This will be updated on a daily basis throughout the bowl season, so feel free to come back and check out the latest breakdown.

Fresh off an up-and-down game last week against the SMU Mustangs, the Oklahoma Sooners are set to take on another [autotag]American Athletic Conference[/autotag] member, the [autotag]Tulsa Golden Hurricane[/autotag].

Tulsa, led by former Oklahoma offensive coordinator [autotag]Kevin Wilson[/autotag] brings an offense that hopes to give the Sooners defense fits this week. Tulsa has the No. 56 ranked offense in the nation.

While most people remember Wilson for his impressive passing attack led by [autotag]Sam Bradford[/autotag] when he was in Norman, his Tulsa team is different this year. While they don’t excel in the passing game, they do in the running game, ranking No. 26th in the country.

But if you are wondering how you can watch the game, what key players to look for, or what the weather will be like, we’ve got you covered.

Today is the start of the month of July. For many, that means a jump on the July 4th festivities with fireworks and firing up the grills for some burgers and hot dogs. But today is a milestone day for college athletics as it marks the beginning of the new fiscal years for conferences. And with that comes a flurry of official conference realignment changes for the upcoming college athletics calendar.

The Big Ten is not making any changes this year, but the one-year countdown to the additions of USC and UCLA from the Pac-12 is now officially underway. The highest profile changes this year will take place in the Big 12 as the conference adds four new members and begins the final year with Oklahoma and Texas before the Sooners and Longhorns ride off to the SEC a year from now.

To keep you updated on all of the changes we are about to see in college football this fall, here is a look at the conference alignment changes going down effective today.

Oklahoma Sooners land Wichita State transfer RHP Austin Henry

Oklahoma landed transfer right-handed pitcher Austin Henry from Wichita State today.

Oklahoma’s baseball team will have a bit of a Wichita State feel next season. Recently, the Sooners landed a commitment from Jace Miner to bolster their ranks. Now the Sooners added their second transfer from the Shockers on Thursday afternoon as right-handed pitcher Austin Henry committed to Oklahoma.

Henry hails from South Dakota but spent his first year at Wichita State. He was the No. 1 player in the state according to Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report. Perfect Game had him tabbed as the No. 72 recruit nationally and the No. 20 right-handed pitcher in the country.

He stands 6-foot-5 and weighs over 215 pounds. In high school, he was South Dakota’s first-ever Perfect Game All-American and was selected for the 2021 Perfect Game All-American Classic. Perfect Game also listed him as the top recruit joining the American Athletic Conference in the fall of 2022.

Henry’s redshirt year comes after Tommy John’s surgery in 2022 and should have him ready to start for Oklahoma next spring. He entered the transfer portal after some coaching changes at Wichita State. There’s tremendous upside with this commitment, and paired with the pledge of James Nesta, it gives the Sooners two high-ceiling arms that could headline their rotation over the next few years. Both players have professional aspirations.

From a scouting perspective, Henry’s fastball was sitting comfortably in the low to mid 90’s. That velocity could see a notable uptick as he gets stronger and in a collegiate strength and conditioning program. His curveball may be his best pitch, with spin rates over 3,200 RPMs. Pairing the two together and finding another secondary pitch to keep hitters off balance should be next in his evolution as a pitcher.

Skip Johnson has been a busy man as he continues to make sure Oklahoma’s pitching woes from the 2023 season aren’t a problem he has to sweat next year.

Tulane earns first major bowl berth since Jan. 1, 1940, heads to Cotton Bowl

Tulane has earned a Cotton Bowl bid and won the American Athletic Conference

Tulane ran its record to 11-2 on Saturday by winning the American Athletic Conference Championship Game, 45-28, over UCF.

The victory clinched a Cotton Bowl bid for the Green Wave.

And it has been a long time since Tulane has played in a major bowl. How about more than 80 years?

The last time the Green Wave played in a major bowl was in 1940 when it was in the Sugar Bowl on that New Year’s Day, losing to Texas A&M 14-13.

The victory in the American Athletic Championship was not as comfortable as the final score sounds.

Quarterback Michael Pratt accounted for more than 440 yards and 5 touchdowns as Tulane accounted for 649 yards of offense. However, a 31-14 lead in the fourth quarter turned into a three-point lead when the Knights scored two touchdowns.

Pratt then led to a pair of scoring drives in 4:14.

He threw a 60-yard TD pass to Shae Wyatt and iced the game with an 18-yard run.

OU announces home-and-home series with SMU amid Georgia cancellation

With the cancellation of the 2023 game against Georgia, the University of Oklahoma scheduled a home-and-home series with the SMU Mustangs

Just minutes after the news broke that Oklahoma would not be playing Georgia in 2023 or Tennessee in 2024, OU announced a home-and-home series with the American Athletic Conference’s SMU Mustangs.

The Mustangs will be coming to Norman in September of 2023 and the Sooners will go to Dallas in 2027. With this game being scheduled, the Sooners already have a higher quality of nonconference games for 2023 than they did for 2022.

The university released a statement with the announcement of the series against SMU:

The Sooners have replaced the Georgia series with a home-and-home series against SMU. OU will host the Mustangs on Sept. 9, 2023, and will play at SMU on Sept. 11, 2027. OU is also working to replace its home-and-home series with Tennessee and will announce those details when they are finalized.

“And we’re grateful to be able to fill the Georgia scheduling gap with the series against SMU, a program that has won 25 games over the last three seasons,” athletic director Joe Castiglione shared in a statement. “Special thanks to SMU Athletics Director Rick Hart for his cooperation during this shift in scheduling.”

The Oklahoma Sooners and SMU Mustangs have played seven times with OU holding a 5-1-1 record against the Ponies. The two sides haven’t played since 1995, a 24-10 win for the Sooners.

Georgia and Tennessee will be in Norman soon enough. However, they won’t be playing a Big 12 team when they make the trip.

2022 Preseason CFN American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year

QB Clayton Tune, Sr. Houston

Can Tune be for Houston what Desmond Ridder was for Cincinnati last year? The numbers should be strong – SMU QB Tanner Mordecai might have the better passing season, though – but it’s more than that. Tune is the veteran leader on what should be the best team in the American Athletic Conference – and the stats aren’t bad, either.

He hit 68% of his passes for 3,546 yards and 30 touchdowns and ten picks, ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns, and led the way to a terrific 12-win season with a bowl victory. Now Houston is looking for even more.

2022 Preseason CFN American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year

LB Deshawn Pace, Jr. Cincinnati

Call this a projection that Pace takes his game up a few notches and becomes an even bigger terror for offenses.

An underappreciated all-around hybrid linebacker – he only earned Honorable Mention All-AAC honors last year – the 6-2, 215-pounder was all over the field making 95 tackles with 9.5 tackles for loss and four picks, highlighted by a huge one against Indiana. It’s not really his role, but if he becomes more of a pass rusher, he’ll be a gamewrecker.

American Athletic Conference predictions for every team and every game in the 2022 college football season

The American Athletic Conference is about to go through its final season with a whole lot of fun before all the changes come.

If you want wacky, and if you want unpredictable, here you go.

The future Big 12 programs – Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF – should be the stars, but others are going to be just good enough to provide a push or even trip them up. Unfortunately, the Cougars don’t play the Bearcats or Knights.

Get ready for the inconsistencies with teams like East Carolina and Memphis being up and down, depending on the timing of the biggest games, SMU and Tulane will be interesting, and USF and Navy should be just improved enough to pull off a few interesting performances.

Remember, the American Athletic Conference doesn’t have divisions. The top two teams in the final standings will play for the title. It should come down to the last few games with the drama at a high level up until the very end.

‘He’s a winner’: What an anonymous AAC coach shared with ESPN on Dillon Gabriel

“He’s a winner, and he’s a tough guy.” What an anonymous AAC coach shared with ESPN about Sooners QB Dillon Gabriel.

As the Oklahoma Sooners prepare to enter the first season under head coach Brent Venables, Dillon Gabriel is the man charged with leading the offense.

Gabriel has the experience and the ability to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football. With the talent Oklahoma will put around him in 2022, expect fireworks from a Sooners’ offense looking to find more consistency than it had at the end of last season.

Looking ahead to 2022, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN spoke to a host of college coaches to get their thoughts on 42 quarterbacks across college football. Here’s what an anonymous AAC coach who faced Gabriel at UCF told Rittenberg.

He’s really good, and he’s got a little magic about him, too. It will be interesting to see how he fits. The one thing I would be concerned about if I was an Oklahoma fan is, those guys like to run their quarterbacks. You look at Matt Corral and guys that typically play in their offense, they usually don’t make it through the season. Gabriel has kind of a history of getting banged up. He’s not very big. But he’s a winner and he’s a tough guy. – Anonymous coach to ESPN’s Rittenberg

Gabriel can run the ball, but I don’t imagine Jeff Lebby will be calling as many designed runs for him as he did for Matt Corral last year at Ole Miss. Gabriel has the athleticism, but that’s not where he and the OU offense will be the most efficient.

Gabriel’s competitiveness and cool demeanor is what Oklahoma needed amid the turnover the Sooners faced during the offseason. He’s a veteran presence with a steady hand to lead Oklahoma into the next era of Sooner football.
