8 LSU football records that could be broken

These records could be set to fall soon.

Records are set to be broken.

With each passing year, new standards are set. Some are more impressive than others. Earlier this week, I took a look at six LSU football records that will never be broken.

It’s time to flip it and look at some that could. Some of these are single-game records, others are single-season, and even some are career ones.

The single-season and single-game records are always the toughest to predict. There’s no statistical pace to base a projection on. Career records are different. You can look at a player’s first couple of years and see what it would take to reach that career mark.

Here’s a look at eight LSU football records that could soon fall.

Texas WR Xavier Worthy approaching all-time great Roy Williams’ freshman records

Xavier Worthy is closing in on a record-breaking season.

Freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy has been nothing short of sensational for the Longhorns this season. The former Michigan signee arrived on campus late in the summer and has wasted no time becoming one of the best wideouts in the Big 12.

Worthy has the chance to break Texas legend Roy Williams’ freshman touchdown and receiving yards record. He only needs one touchdown and 130 yards to hold both records to himself.

Williams is the programs all-time receiving leader and was the last Texas wide receiver to be taken in the first round of the NFL draft back in 2004.

Worthy burst onto the college football scene when he hauled in three touchdowns on 100 yards receiving against Texas Tech. He followed that up with an all-time performance against Oklahoma two weeks later. It was one of his best outings to date, as he torched the Sooners defense for 261 yards and two touchdowns in the heartbreaking loss.

Here is his mid-season highlight reel courtesy of Texas football:

Look for Worthy to continue building on a fantastic freshman season and potentially ink his name in University of Texas record books.

Oklahoma Sooners all-time record against the Pac-12 Conference

The all-time series history between the Oklahoma Sooners and members of the Pac-12 Conference

In the final look at the Oklahoma Sooners all-time history against the Power Five conferences, Sooners Wire looks at the Pac-12 Conference. A conference that once upon a time was looking to add Oklahoma and other members of the Big 12 to create the first “super conference”. That deal fell through and the Pac-12 went a different route.

The Pac-12 is the only conference in the Power Five that the Sooners have played each and every team at least once. Overall OU holds a 67-32-3 advantage in their 102 games against the Pac-12. Former Big 12 opponent the Colorado Buffaloes have the most games against Oklahoma. They have met a total of 59 times over the years from playing in the Big 12 and Big Eight before leaving for the Pac-12 in 2011.

Oklahoma Sooners all-time history vs the Big Ten Conference

A look at the Oklahoma Sooners all-time records against each Big Ten Conference team.

The Oklahoma Sooners have played their fair share of games against another Power Five conference, the Big Ten. The team they faced most being the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In 2021 the two teams will meet on the field for the first time since the 2010 Big 12 Championship game.

The Sooners have never lost to six of the members of the conference. In those games, OU is a combined 13-0. There have been some notable memories against the Big Ten including former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield planting the Sooners flag at midfield after defeating Ohio State.

Much as was done with the Southeastern Conference, Sooners Wire takes a look at Oklahoma’s all-time history against the Big Ten.
