Final injury report ahead of Texas A&M vs. South Carolina

Here is the final injury report ahead of Texas A&M’s Week 9 home matchup vs. South Carolina on Saturday afternoon

Texas A&M (4-3, 2-2 SEC) will embark on a potential second-half turnaround after dropping consecutive SEC matchups to Alabama and Tennessee before entering their much-needed bye week to reflect and move on to host the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-5, 1-4 SEC) on Saturday afternoon.

Knowing that nearly every media member and Aggie fan alike will be deadset focused on Jimbo Fisher’s future at the helm, South Carolina’s struggling defense presents a great opportunity for the Aggies’ equally struggling offense to finally find some rhythm, starting with stark improvement on the offensive line.

Regarding how healthy the team looks ahead of the matchup, Fisher provided a vague yet positive update concerning several key Aggie defenders who sustained minor injuries in the loss to Tennessee.

“Most guys healed up. The week was really good. For the most part, we should be pretty healthy.”

First off, star linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, who suffered what looked to be a concussion-based injury, is good to go. At the same time, defensive tackles Walter Nolen and Albert Regis also avoided serious lower-body injuries and, as of now, should be available for Saturday. Safety Jardin Gilbert and tackle Reuben Fatheree II remain out.

South Carolina’s injury list is quite dense:

  • WR Antwane Wells Jr. (Questionable, Foot)
  • OL Vershon Lee (Questionable, Undisclosed)
  • WR Ahmarean Brown (Questionable, Hamstring)
  • WR Xavier Legette (Questionable, Upper Body)
  • RB Bradley Dunn (Out, Lower Body)
  • OL Cason Henry (Out, Lower Body)
  • OL Markee Anderson (Out,Knee)
  • TE Reid Mikeska (Out, Undisclosed)
  • LB Mohamed Kaba (Out, Knee)

Jimbo Fisher provides injury updates on Edgerrin Cooper, Walter Nolen, Albert Regis, and Bryce Anderson

During his portion of the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday, Jimbo Fisher provided an injury update on Edgerrin Cooper, Walter Nolen, Albert Regis, and Bryce Anderson.

Texas A&M (4-3, 2-2 SEC) may be on their bye week, but head coach Jimbo Fisher took a moment to provide an injury update on a handful of key defensive players.

Fisher spoke with the media for roughly seven minutes during this week’s SEC Teleconference on Wednesday, giving multiple updates on both the team having the week off, as well as a check-in on the health status of Edgerrin Cooper, Walter Nolen, Albert Regis, and Bryce Anderson.

As shared by The Eagle‘s Travis Brown, Fisher indicated that he expects Cooper, Nolen, and Regis to be back and available for the Aggies’ Week 9 game against South Carolina. Of course, the timeline could change with kickoff more than a week away, depending on each player’s recovery.

Fisher shared that Anderson was back in practice Tuesday after missing the Tennessee game due to injury, with the expectation that he’ll be ready in time for South Carolina.

Having all four of Texas A&M’s players on defense back in tow against South Carolina will be critical. Their presence goes beyond the stats in the box score, as the Week 9 matchup marks a pivotal point in the season, both for this program’s trajectory, as well as the future of their head coach in Fisher.

Following their bye in Week 8, Texas A&M will return home to host South Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT from inside Kyle Field, and the game will air on ESPN.

Texas A&M’s surging defense dealing with several impactful injuries in the 20-13 loss to Tennessee

Within the Aggies’ loss to Tennessee, several key defenders sustained injuries heading into Texas A&M’s much-needed bye week.

After Texas A&M’s (4-3, 2-2 SEC) 20-13 loss to Tennessee (5-1, 2-2 SEC) on Saturday afternoon, much of the focus will shift to the murky future of Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher. Still, with five games remaining within the 2023 season, any decision concerning Fisher will likely pause until the season finale vs. LSU.

Heading into what is, of course, a critical bye week for a struggling program, the Aggies will be dealing with a rash of defensive injuries sustained during Saturday’s loss, most notable being sophomore defensive tackle Walter Nolen, who was carted off in the second-half against the Volunteers with what appeared to be some lower-body injury.

Other key injuries include star linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, who was seen walking off the field for a second evaluation after enduring a possible hit to the head after a tackle attempt. At the same time, rotational defensive tackle Albert Regis also left the game with a lower-body injury. After the game, Fisher did not disclose any specifics regarding the three players.

“We’ll wait and see,” Fisher stated. “I don’t know what those will be.”

Despite the losses, Texas A&M’s defense held Vols quarterback Joe Milton to 100 yards through the air, including a costly endzone interception to Aggies corner Josh DeBerry in the 4th quarter. However, the Aggies run defense, who entered the contest holding opponents to 84 yards on the ground, allowed a whopping 232 yards for a 13.9-yard per rush average.

All three players are vital to the defense continuing their impressive streak, leading to the country with 29 sacks. Facing much scrutiny, entering Monday’s press conference, expect Fisher to provide at least a brief update concerning Nolen, Cooper, and Regis.

‘It’s a 12-round fight in every SEC game,’ Jake Johnson and Albert Regis look ahead to facing Arkansas

Ahead of Saturday’s Southwest Classic, Jake Johnson and Albert Regis spoke on the Aggies’ mentality and preparation ahead of their matchup with Arkansas.

Texas A&M (3-1, 1-0 SEC) kicked off their SEC slate with an emphatic 27-10 win over Auburn last weekend. But as the Aggie player will attest, there’s no time to bask in the glory.

The Maroon and White face another formidable test in the Arkansas Razorbacks, who will go toe-to-toe with the Aggies at AT&T Stadium on Saturday. The matchup marks the next chapter in the storied Southwest Classic series.

Ahead of Saturday’s action, tight end Jake Johnson and Albert Regis spoke with the media about the team’s preparation. For Johnson, last week’s memorable moment in catching a touchdown from his brother continues to reverberate in the locker room. Both brothers will look to carry that momentum into Saturday’s bout with the Hogs.

Below are Jake Johnson and Albert Regis’ full press conferences and notable highlights from their time at the podium.

Players’ Monday Press Conference: Week 10 quotes

Week 9 of the 2022 college football season is officially in the books, and Texas A&M are still churning ahead after falling to Ole Miss 31-28, dropping their fifth game of the season, and their straight in what has been an extremely frustrating season.

Nevertheless, freshman quarterback Conner Weigman’s 338 yards, and 4-touchdown performance in his first career start against a tough Ole Miss squad proved that Texas A&M’s dreadful offense was simply just a new signal caller away from showing some explosion and consistency, and has reeled the fan base back in as the team prepares to finish strong with four games remaining in the season.

As the 3-5 Aggies prepare to take on the 4-4 Florida Gators in a matchup of preseason darlings turned surprising underachievers, both teams have a lot left to fight for, including reaching bowl eligibility, and creating momentum that can continue into 2023. On Monday, head coach Jimbo Fisher and select players spoke to the local meeting to reflect on the close loss to Ole Miss, and look towards their ensuing matchup with the always-competitive Florida Gators.

Here are the most notable quotes from defensive lineman Albert Regis, and right guard Layden Robinson during Monday afternoon’s annual weekly press conference.

Players’ press conference after Aggies’ loss to Ole Miss

The Aggies have now dropped four straight games after coming up short in the final minutes against the 15th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels, losing 31-28 in their first game back in front of the 12th man at Kyle Field in 42 days.

As ugly as the loss is, freshman quarterback Conner Weigman was the brightest spot in an otherwise frustrating outing, making his first career start while passing for 338 yards and 4 touchdowns in the team’s best offensive performance since the season opener vs. Sam Houston State, totaling 480 yards on the night.

Star running back Devon Achane did what he always does, rushing for 138 yards while adding 41 through the air, and scoring the final touchdown on the night for the Aggies, again showing that he’s the most consistent offensive playmaker head coach Jimbo Fisher possesses no matter the opponent.

The Aggie’s defensive performance was abysmal, to say the least, allowing over 400 yards on the ground, with 205 yards coming from freshman running back Quinshon Judkins in one of the most dominant rushing performances I’ve seen against a Texas A&M defense in a number of seasons. Mix in a number of costly penalties while allowing 7 3rd down conversions, and this loss is not squarely on the defense, but it’s close.

After the game, head coach Jimbo Fisher and select players answered questions regarding the loss, while looking forward to hopefully ending their losing streak against their Week 10 opponent, the Florida Gators.

Here are the most notable quotes from defensive tackle Albert Regis and tight end Max Wright.

Players’ Monday press conference: Week 4 quotes

`The headline coming into Texas A&M’s week 3 matchup with the Miami Hurricanes was the change at the quarterback position for the Aggies, as the veteran, Max Johnson replaced the struggling Haynes King in his first career start with the program.

In what was a low-scoring affair marred by pre-game suspensions, controversial targeting calls, and attrition near the end of the game, Johnson, along with running back Devon Achane, and wide receiver Ainias Smith led the offense to 3 scoring drives and held on to win 17-9, while an outstanding defensive effort prevented the Hurricanes from scoring a single touchdown.

On Monday, Jimbo Fisher and a group of players including Albert Regis, Devon Achane, Ainias Smith, and Edgerrin Cooper spoke to the local media, answering questions about their recent victory, while looking forward to their all-important week 4 matchup vs. the Arkansas Razorbacks at AT&T Stadium.
