Angry Tweets: CFB fans react to Georgia’s No. 4 ranking

Angry college football fans tweet after Georgia football checked in at No. 4 in the CFP Rankings.

On Tuesday night, Georgia checked in at No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings, remaining the highest ranked one-loss team.

According to the most recent edition of the CFP rankings, Georgia’s ranked wins include:

No. 16 Notre Dame

No. 10 Florida

No. 15 Auburn

The full top-six is as follows:

1. LSU

2. Ohio State

3. Clemson

4. Georgia

5. Alabama

6. Oregon

Surprisingly, Texas A&M, which Georgia hosts this weekend, remained unranked despite checking in at No. 23 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25.

Following the release of the rankings, college football fans gave their thoughts on Twitter.

Originally, I was planning on making this an article that included happy tweets from UGA fans. Then, as I browsed Twitter all I saw was triggered fans of other schools…mostly Alabama.

On Tuesday night, the newest College Football Playoff rankings were released after Georgia’s big road win over Auburn.

In the most recent rankings, Georgia (9-1) remained at No. 4. Surprisingly, Texas A&M (7-3), which Georgia plays on Saturday, stayed unranked despite being placed at No. 23 in the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25.

LSU (1), Ohio State (2) and Clemson (3) all took care of business, and all held onto the same rankings.

The Dawgs definitely had the most impressive win of the weekend among those teams, beating then-ranked No. 12 Auburn on the road. That victory gives Georgia three victories over top-25 teams.

According to the most recent edition of the CFP rankings, Georgia’s ranked wins include:

No. 10 Florida

No. 15 Auburn

Alabama, which lost star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for the season, remained put at No. 5.

Georgia will look to hold onto that No. 4 spot on Saturday vs Texas A&M. That game is scheduled to kick at 3:30 p.m. ET from Sanford Stadium and will air on CBS.

What did Oklahoma do to tick off the committee I do have to ask.  The Sooners got a huge win, coming from behind to beat a previously unbeaten Baylor team, a win more impressive than any that is on the resume of Utah, Oregon, Penn State, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson or Ohio State.  Yet the loss at K-State is what is keeping them down?  Man alive, no love for the Big XII this year and I can’t say I agree with it.

Alabama stays at No. 5 and they deserve to.  I hate the idea this week that has been tossed around that if Tua is out that they’re not worthy of being a playoff team.  You can argue they don’t deserve a chance and I would, because they lost a home game to LSU and the Tigers should have to potentially beat Alabama another time to win it all.  But if they were number five a week ago and they won easily, they don’t deserve to fall, even if their star quarterback is out.  Those arguing the contrary, tell me how that worked out for Ohio State back in 2014.

USA TODAY releases SEC power rankings – where’s Georgia football?

USA TODAY has releases their weekly SEC power rankings ahead of week 13. See where Georgia football ranks among the rest of the SEC.

The buzz around college football has been that after the South Carolina loss, Georgia controls its own destiny… and control it they have.

The Dawgs remain at No. 4 in the rankings following a 21-14 win over Auburn, and secured a ticket to the SEC Championship game.

USA TODAY’s SEC power rankings have Georgia at the No. 2 spot, dropping Alabama to No. 3 and LSU taking the No. 1 spot.

On Georgia, Horka said:

“It surely wasn’t an offensive exhibition from the Bulldogs in their big win over Auburn, but a win is a win regardless. It’s looks likely that Georgia will meet LSU in the SEC Championship game, but it doesn’t look like the Dawgs will be able to go blow for blow with Burrow and company.”

Here is his top-six in the SEC:

  1. LSU (10-0, 6-0 SEC)
  2. Georgia (9-1, 6-1 SEC)
  3. Alabama (9-1, 6-1 SEC)
  4. Florida (9-2, 6-2 SEC)
  5. Auburn (7-3, 4-3 SEC)

Georgia has one more SEC opponent in its way before the SEC Championship.

Texas A&M seems like it should be a Georgia win this Saturday at 3:30 p.m., but the Dawgs need to make sure they don’t play down to the Aggies’ level.

This game has trap game written all over it and if we’ve learned anything this year, it’s don’t take any team lightly.

The 2019 college football season has quickly flow by, with just two weeks of regular season football remaining before conference championships take place in early December.

The pretenders and the contenders continue to sort themselves out this month, as we find out who truly belongs in the conversation for a playoff spot.

However, there’s still more to play for than just a Top 4 spot and an invitation to this year’s bracket.

Two former Alabama stars score first NFL TD

Two former Alabama standouts, Irv Smith Jr. and Bo Scarbrough, scored their first career NFL touchdown on Sunday.

Alabama is known for putting impact players in the NFL. With former stars such as Julio Jones, Mark Ingram II and Minkah Fitzpatrick coming up with big plays seemingly every week, it can be hard to keep up with.

Well, add two more former Tide standouts to the list of players who have scored NFL touchdowns this season.

On Sunday, second-year running back Bo Scarbrough, who has bounced around on multiple teams since being a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, scored the following touchdown for the Detroit Lions:

So far on the day, Scarbrough has rushed the ball 12 times for 49 yards (4.1-yard per carry average) and a touchdown against a respectable Dallas Cowboys defense. Pretty nice debut for his new team considering he was just signed to the roster on Saturday.

Scarbrough is not the only Alabama play to score the first career NFL touchdown on Sunday, however.

Minnesota Vikings rookie tight end Irv Smith Jr. also hauled in the team’s only touchdown through so far against the Denver Broncos on this 10-yarder from Kirk Cousins:

Heading into Sunday, Smith has slowly started to become more involved in the Vikings offense with starting wide receiver Adam Thielen out with an injury.

In fact, the second-round pick out of Alabama had 24 receptions for 241 yards (10.0 yards per catch) coming into today. The “Built By Bama” mantra continues to prove its worth each and every week in the NFL.

AP Poll: Notre Dame Back in Top 15

What it all means is that if Notre Dame wins out they’ll have a realistic chance at finishing the regular season in the top-10

The latest AP Poll is out after Week 12 concluded and Notre Dame moved up in that one as well, just like the Amway Coaches Poll Powered by USA Today, earlier today.

How high can Notre Dame get by the end of the year? It’ll need help to be in the top-10 but here are a few things to take note of:

Wisconsin and Minnesota still have to play in two weeks, while Baylor has a great chance of meeting Oklahoma in the Big XII Championship which would mean a pair of guaranteed loses ahead of Notre Dame.

It’s also worth noting Penn State and Michigan both have to play Ohio State where the Buckeyes will be favored against both, meaning two more very possible losses for teams Notre Dame is within shouting distance off.

Finally Oregon and Utah meeting in the PAC-12 Championship will mean one more guaranteed loss by one of them.

What it all means is that if Notre Dame wins out they’ll have a realistic chance at finishing the regular season in the top-10 and in turn, have an actual chance at a Cotton or Orange Bowl appearance.

Stay tuned as the Irish continue their quest for a ten-win regular season and possibly a NY-6 bowl as they welcome Boston College to South Bend on Saturday.

Amway Coaches Poll: Notre Dame Moves Up

A week after dropping a spot, Notre Dame moved back up in the latest Amway Coaches Poll, Powered by USA Today

Last week some Notre Dame fans were upset when the Amway Coaches Poll Powered by USA Today was released because the Fighting Irish dropped a spot to No. 16 despite having their way at Duke.

The Irish were rewarded for their win over previously No. 23 as they moved up one spot to No. 15 in this week’s poll.

Alabama drops to No. 5 in latest Amway Coaches Poll

The Alabama Crimson Tide dropped from No. 4 to No. 5 in the last Amway Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Alabama managed to get a sound 35-7 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday, but that did not stop the slide from No. 4 to No. 5 in the latest Amway Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Georgia, who was already ranked ahead of the Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff rankings, jumped to the No. 4 spot while there were some other slight changes to the rankings.

  • Minnesota dropped its first game of the season to Iowa, which caused a drop from No. 7 to No. 11
  • Baylor, who checked in as a top 10 team last week, only dropped to No. 13 after Oklahoma’s comeback victory on Saturday night
  • Auburn dropped a close one (21-14) to Georgia, and the rankings dropped them from No. 13 to No. 16 as a result
  • Texas A&M, who have not been in the top 25 in awhile, crawled back in at No. 24
