Alabama dropped two spots in the latest women’s basketball AP Poll.
The Alabama Crimson Tide fell in the latest women’s college basketball AP Poll released Tuesday afternoon, dropping two spots down from No. 22 to No. 24 in the country.
This movement for Alabama was however a bit different than what happened to the Crimson Tide in the latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll, where the program went in the opposite direction, jumping a spot from No. 22 to No. 21.
At the time of writing, Alabama still remains undefeated for the season at 6-0 overall, and boasts a resume that includes wins at home over New Orleans, Troy, Alcorn State, and Norfolk State, as well as road victories at Alabama A&M and UL Monroe. The closest margin of victory has been a 68-58 win against Norfolk State.
Alabama will be back in action this upcoming Monday, November 25 for a neutral-site matchup with Alabama State in Niceville, Florida for the first game of the Emerald Coast Classic.
Kristy Curry’s Alabama team is 6-0 for the second year in a row. Here’s where the Crimson Tide are ranked in this week’s Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll.
Coach Kristy Curry and the Alabama Crimson Tide women’s basketball team went 3-0 last week to improve to 6-0 overall for the season and continue its climb up the new USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll, released Tuesday.
Alabama rose one spot to No. 21 and is ranked just behind the Ole Miss Rebels at No. 20. The Crimson Tide jumped ahead of the Louisville Cardinals, who fell four spots to No. 22.
The Tide beat Norfolk State 68-58 last Wednesday in Coleman Coliseum, then blew out Alcorn State 88-59 the following day. They beat UL Monroe 75-52 over the weekend in Louisiana.
Alabama’s 6-0 start ties last season’s start, which led to them earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament in March. They beat Florida State for their first NCAA Tournament win since 2021 before losing to No. 1 seed Texas in the second round in Austin.
Alabama will play Alabama State Monday, Nov. 25 in the Emerald Coast Classic in Florida before taking on either UAB or the Clemson Tigers the following day in the tournament’s championship or runner-up game. Tipoff for the Crimson Tide’s game against Alabama State is set for 1:30 p.m. CT and can be seen on FloSports.
Through six games, Sarah Ashlee Barker leads Alabama in scoring with 18.7 points per game, followed by Aaliyah Nye at 15 points per game. Zaay Green is third with 13.3 per game.
Coach Dawn Staley and the defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks (4-0) remained atop the polls. UConn was No. 2 with USC No. 3. As with last week, seven SEC teams were ranked in the Coaches Poll. Texas stayed at No. 4 with Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers at No. 7 and the Oklahoma Sooners at No. 9. The Kentucky Wildcats moved up three spots to No. 16 with Ole Miss at No. 20.

No. 1 seed Texas Longhorns eliminates Alabama women from March Madness
The Alabama women fought hard, but ultimately it wasn’t enough as the No. 1 seed Texas Longhorns eliminated the Crimson Tide from the NCAA Tournament on Sunday in the round of 32. It was always an uphill battle as the Longhorns hosted the No. 9 seeded Tide at home in Austin, TX.
At 32-4 on the year, Texas is widely considered one of the favorites to win the national title so there is no shame in the loss for Alabama. The Crimson Tide ended the year with a 24-10 record and a tournament win over Florida State. They were also 10-6 in SEC play which was good for a fourth-place tie with the Tennessee Volunteers.
As for the game itself, it was a frustrating afternoon for the Tide as they shot just 33.9% from the field and 27.8% from three. They also had no points scored off of the bench. Sarah Ashlee Barker led the way with 17 points and six boards in the Alabama loss.

The Crimson Tide women’s basketball team will continue to dance after they handled business on day one of the NCAA Tournament. The No. 9 seeded Crimson Tide ended the game on an 8-2 run to knock off No. 8 Florida State 82-74. Despite being the lower seed, the Tide went into the matchup as a 2.5-point favorite.

Karly Weathers and Aaliyah Nye also were key contributors as they both poured in 18 points as well. It is Alabama’s first tournament win since 2021 when they knocked off North Carolina.
Alabama has not played for a Sweet 16 since 1998 and will now look to change that as they take on the No. 1 seeded Texas Longhorns in Austin, TX in the round of 32 on Sunday.

On Monday night from Vanderbilt Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Kristy Curry and the Alabama Crimson Tide women’s basketball team picked up a much-needed road victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores, 74-66.
With the win, the Tide improved to 18-6 overall and 5-4 in SEC play before heading back to Tuscaloosa to take on Tennessee on Thursday night.
