Nick Saban updates health of Alabama starting running back Jase McClellan

Jase McClellan expected be to back for the Rose Bowl

It is looking like the Alabama offense will have its leading rusher, Jase McClellan back for the College Football Playoff semifinal matchup against Michigan on New Year’s Day.

On Wednesday, the head coach of the Crimson Tide, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] would provide a positive injury update on the senior running back from Texas who missed the SEC championship game earlier this month.

“Jase is doing great. Looks good. We gave him a lot of time off to heal his foot and it looks like it paid off.”

McClellan has 803 yards rushing this season which is nearly 300 yards more than the team’s next closest ball carrier.

Alabama DL Justin Eboigbe not likely to return for the 2022 season

Unfortunate news for senior defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe.

Some unfortunate news has surfaced during Alabama’s bye week as Crimson Tide head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] announced on Wednesday that senior defensive lineman [autotag]Justin Eboigbe[/autotag] was unlikely to return for the 2022 season due to a neck injury.

Eboigbe competed in the first four games of the 2022 season and was having an impactful senior season for the Crimson Tide defense. From his interior defensive line position, Eboigbe had accumulated 11 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and two quarterback hurries.

Eboigbe can take advantage of two redshirt years and return in 2023. He only played in four games this season and still has a COVID-affected year left to use if the Forest Park, Ga. native decided to do so.

When asked about Eboigbe during his weekly SEC coaches media teleconference, coach Saban said, “I think that he had a procedure done that would enhance his opportunity to be able to play in the future, but I don’t think that that’s gonna come this season.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Eboigbe’s injury status and will provide any updates that are made available.

Nick Saban provides update on injured Alabama stars and more during Wednesday’s press conference

Nick Saban provides an injury update on Jordan Battle, Byron Young, and JoJo Earle ahead of the SEC showdown with Arkansas.

On Wednesday evening Alabama Crimson Tide head football coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] stepped to the podium to address members of the media following practice.

Coach Saban and the team are in the midst of their preparation for this weekend’s SEC showdown with the Arkansas Razorbacks and the seven-time national championship-winning coach provided several pieces of important information heading into the highly-anticipated matchup.

Among the noted updates was the status of a trio of Alabama stars heading into the first weekend of October. Coach Saban mentioned that he is hopeful that Jordan Battle and Byron Young will be available on Saturday but are day-to-day. Wide receiver JoJo Earle is also still listed as day-to-day.

Here is everything coach Saban had to say on Wednesday evening.

Alabama Morning Drive: Best from the Alabama coaches on Sunday’s media day

The best from Sunday’s media appearance from Nick Saban, Bill O’Brien, and Pete Golding.

Good morning, Tide fans and welcome back to another edition of Alabama Morning Drive. I hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready to get another work week underway.

On Sunday Alabama head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag], offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, and defensive coordinator [autotag]Pete Golding[/autotag] took time to have their annual media day in Tuscaloosa. This is the only time during the season that the two coordinators will be available to answer questions from the media, so this is generally a very interactive experience.

I thought to start the week we could take a look at some of the best comments from the Alabama coaches as fall camp begins to pick up speed.

Let’s roll!

Alabama TE Cameron Latu to ‘miss some time’ in fall camp

Unfortunate news for Alabama as star TE Cameron Latu is set to miss time during fall camp.

The Alabama football team completed its first practice of fall camp 2022 earlier on Thursday. As is the case to start each fall camp, head coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] took a few moments following practice to address the media.

Coach Saban clarified some message board rumors that Alabama star tight end [autotag]Cameron Latu[/autotag] has indeed suffered some sort of injury and will “miss some time” during fall camp.

Saban did not go into the specifics of Latu’s injury but spoke about the opportunity some of the younger players at that position will now have.

Alabama is extremely young behind Latu with one sophomore and three freshmen on scholarship.

Here is coach Saban’s full comment on Latu’s injury and the impact it has on the team.

“Cam is going to miss some time in camp. I don’t know exactly how long, which is an opportunity. I think we have three freshmen, young guys that have an opportunity to develop. So it’ll give them a lot of reps and a lot of opportunities in camp. That’s a position we definitely need to develop some depth at, and this will give us a good opportunity to do that.”

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Latu’s injury and all the other major stories from fall camp.

WATCH: Former Alabama WR John Metchie is working his way back on the field

It’s nice to see the former Alabama star back on the field.

Back in early December, the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georiga Bulldogs for the 2021 SEC Championship. The excitement level from the victory was slightly brought down when star wide receiver [autotag]John Metchie[/autotag] went down with a non-contact knee injury.

Metchie’s absence would be felt throughout the remainder of the season but was especially noticeable in the rematch with the Bulldogs in January for the national championship.

Metchie’s injury likely cost him an opportunity to become a first-round selection in the 2022 NFL draft but the talented wideout was eventually selected in the second round by the Houston Texans with the No. 44 overall selection.

It appears that Metchie is slowly but surely working his way back into game shape. In a Twitter video courtesy of Coty M. Davis who covers the Texans for SI, you can see Metchie taking the practice field during Houston’s 2022 rookie minicamp.

Currently, there is no timetable for Metchie’s return but the expectations are that he will play during the 2022 NFL season.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Metchie’s career with the Texans and beyond.

WATCH: Jase McClellan looks to be recovering well from ACL injury

Jase McClellan looks to be making a full recovery!

On October 2, 2021, Alabama running back [autotag]Jase McClellan[/autotag] suffered a knee injury against the Ole Miss Rebels. McClellan would go on to miss the remainder of the 2021 season and his absence in the running back rotation was certainly felt.

McClellan is a gifted runner who is also a threat out of the backfield as a receiver. Aside from his abilities as an offensive threat, McClellan was also a star on the special teams unit for the Crimson Tide.

Before his season-ending injury, McClellan had 288 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns. One of them came on special teams after a blocked punt.

Still recovering from his injury, Tide fans did not get to see McClellan during the spring activities but from the video below, it looks as if McClellan is making a full recovery.

Former Auburn running back Brad Lester, who now owns his own training company, posted this video on his Twitter account displaying McClellan’s progress.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Jase’s progression throughout the offseason.

Nick Saban provides injury update heading into Ole Miss game

Nick Saban provides the latest on the injury front!

Tuscaloosa is the sight of another top 15 SEC matchup on Saturday afternoon as No. 1 Alabama and No. 12 Ole Miss face off.

Lane Kiffin will be making his return to Bryant Denny Stadium for the first time since being named the Rebels’ head coach. His team is coming off a bye week, having the opportunity to get healthy.

Alabama did not have the same advantage. Even if Southern Miss was not the best opponent, there were still 60 minutes of football to be played.

Nick Saban was able to provide injury updates on three players Wednesday morning. One of the more surprising ones was Henry To’oTo’o coming out of the Florida game.

“He was a little sick when we played down at Florida,” Saban said about the linebacker. “He played anyway. But he has played extremely well for us.”

To’oTo’o finished with nine tackles against the Gators and three last week against Southern Miss. He and Christian Harris have been an intricate part of the defense thus far.

Alabama’s pass rush could finally be back at full strength as well, with LaBryan Ray returning to near 100%.

“He’s played in the last two games and played more in each one of those games,” Saban said. “We’re very pleased with the progress that he’s making and the way that he’s playing, and I think the more he plays, the more productive that he’ll be and I think the more confident that he’ll get that he’s physically healthy as well as making strides to getting back to be the kind of player that he’s always been for us.”

The defensive lineman suffered a groin injury just before the summer ended and missed the first two games of the season.

On the offensive side of the ball, it sounds like Brian Robinson Jr. is ready to be the feature back of the offense again. After missing the Southern Miss game, Saban said Robinson Jr. would practice this week and be listed as day-to-day.

On Wednesday he confirmed the running back will be good to go for Ole Miss.

“He [Robinson Jr.] looks good and he’s practiced well, so we’re encouraged that he’ll be able to play in the game on Saturday.”

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire to stay updated with the injury situation before Saturday.

Nick Saban “hopeful” Brian Robinson will be 100% by Ole Miss

Nick Saban is “hopeful” Brian Robinson Jr. will be 100% by the 2:30 kickoff on Saturday.

Alabama went into Southern Miss without Brian Robinson Jr. The starting running back is dealing with a rib injury and left the carries for Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams.

Nick Saban provided an injury on the running back during his press conference on Monday. The head coach said Robinson Jr. practiced and is going to be day-to-day moving forward.

As for his status against Ole Miss, Saban is “hopeful” Robinson Jr. will be 100% by the 2:30 kickoff on Saturday.

Despite missing a game, Robinson Jr. is still the Crimson Tide’s leading rusher. Getting him back in time for Ole Miss will be huge for Bryce Young and the offense, making sure there are plenty of options in the run game.

Even with Robinson Jr. out last week, Saban wanted to get back to running the ball after a poor performance against Florida. Alabama rushed for 211 yards and a touchdown.

Ole Miss’ defense is giving up 136 rushing yards a game and just 3.5 yards per carry. Opponents of Louisville, Austin Peay, and Tulane are a lot different than going up against Alabama. Having Robinson Jr. back will help attack the Rebels.
