Gators makes top 8 for this 2024 4-star EDGE

One of the top in-state edge rushers from the class of 2024 narrowed his list of schools down to eight on Thursday, and Florida made the cut.

Largo High edge rusher [autotag]Adarius Hayes[/autotag] narrowed things down to eight schools on Thursday and the Florida Gators made the cut.

The four-star recruit from the class of 2024 named Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas A&M and UCF to his list of top schools, and the Gators might be the favorite of the group. The On3 recruiting prediction machine has Florida at the top of the list with 88.9% odds to land him, but it’s still early in the cycle and that number is inflated thanks to an early pick for the Gators from Gators Online’s Corey Bender.

Hayes is a priority target for the Gators and is has already made four visits to UF in 2022. He should get back to campus at least one more time this year, so he’s no stranger to the program.

Leading the effort for the Gators is inside linebackers coach Jay Bateman. Florida offered him almost immediately after Billy Napier joined the program and has been on him since then.

The 247Sports composite ranks Hayes 40th overall in the class of 2024 regardless of position. He comes in at No. 7 among edge rushers and No. 11 among recruits from the state of Florida. The On3 consensus agrees in most part with him at No. 55 nationally and No. 6 among linebackers.

Gators leading the pack for this top 2024 EDGE recruit

Florida’s big win impressed at least one recruit in attendance.

Florida football’s massive season-opening win over the Utah Utes is certain to have a ripple effect throughout the program’s recruiting efforts, considering the crowd of top prep prospects that attended the game. Among those was four-star hybrid linebacker/edge [autotag]Adarius Hayes[/autotag], an in-state target out of Largo in the 2024 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 210-pound pass-rusher came away from the Gators’ triumphant victory feeling great about the Orange and Blue, adding to the love he already had for the state’s flagship university. After spending an entire day on campus ahead of the game — with a busy schedule that included a photo shoot and meeting with other recruits, as well as quality time with the coaches — his experience reached a peak after the win.

“To be honest this is my dream school,” he told Swamp247, “and last night if felt like I was living a dream for real because I always have been a Gator fan (since) I was 6 years old and just to be in the Swamp last night really meant a lot to me because if feels like my dreams are coming true.”

Florida appears to be in the lead for his talents so far, but the Gators are not without competition for the highly-sought blue-chipper. The Georgia Bulldogs, Iowa Hawkeyes, Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions are also among many vying for the student-athlete’s talents.

Hayes is ranked No. 41 overall and No. 7 at his position in his class nationally according to the 247Sports composite at edge, while the On3 consensus has him at Nos. 55 and 6, respectively, at linebacker. The Gators currently hold one crystal ball prediction from 247Sports while On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Florida far out front for the edge defender with an 89.9% chance of signing him.

Gators hosting 2024 4-star LB for fourth visit, picks up crystal ball

Another high-profile recruit has been added to the guest list at the Swamp for the season opener against Utah.

The guest list for Florida’s season opener against Utah on September 3 grows larger by the day, and a priority target in the class of 2024 has now joined it, according to 247Sports.

Four-star linebacker/edge rusher [autotag]Adarius Hayes[/autotag] will be in town for the Utah game on what will be his fourth visit to the Swamp in this year alone. He made visits in March and June, and was in town for both Friday Night Lights and the recruiting cookout. He’s been high on the Gators for some time and has referred to Florid as his ‘dream school’ in the past.

“The visit was sweet,” Hayes said. “Me and the fam had a great time in Gainesville. Got a chance to be coached by Coach (Jay) Bateman and Coach (Jamar) Chaney.”

It’s still fairly early in the recruiting process for Hayes, but multiple visits early on are always a good sign. 247Sports has seen enough to place a low-confidence crystal prediction in favor of the Gators, but they hedged it as a “calling our shot” pick.

The 247Sports composite ranks Hayes No. 63 overall in the class of 2024 and No. 8 among edge rushers. The site’s individual rankings are even more bullish on Hayes, ranking him No. 41 nationally and No. 7 at his position.
